Though some browsers have java turned off. Is there a way to overcome this problem? That means people can still open the small windows. Code:

Here's the code I've come up with. I deliberately left off an expiration date since I want the cookie to expire when the browser is closed.
<html><head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function setCookie(name,value){
document.cookie=name+"="+value;}
</script></head><body>
<a href="#" onClick="createCookie('Role',Parent)";>Parent</a>
<a href="#" onClick="createCookie('Role',Student)";>Student</a>
</body>
</html>
How would i make it so basically everytime you keyup it would post that data in the url without refreshing so when a user clicks on a link they searched for and go back it will have whatever they typed last in the search bar?

I currently have a normal link like Code:<a href="http://sitepoint.com" class="link">sitepoint</a> and when a user clicks on it I want to be able to change the "link" class to a different class. However, I don't want to add anything to the actual link html. Is it possible to do this using javascript without modifying the original link code?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:
The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.
1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?
2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?
Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.
Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";
The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:
<img id="poweron" src="http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/power.png" alt="Power on button" onmousedown="this.src='images/poweron.png';" onmouseup="this.src='images/power.png';"/>
I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?
The following code is working fine in firefox n not working in IE8... I get the Object Expected Error when the code hits the if(GBrowserIsCompatible())..... line in the javascript code. Clear cache and browser history does not work. Does anyone have a resolution for this?

Is there a way in Javascript, or perhaps in HTML, to force a browser to
re-render an image on an HTML page after a round-trip between the client
and the server ?
In my particular case, the image is changing on the server although the
URL for it remains the same, but the browser is still displaying the old
image from its cache rather than the new image from its URL location.
I want to use jquery to detect what type of browser you are using and display a link to a .wmv file if you are on IE or display a link to a .mp4 file if you are any other type of browser.I have this script declaration in my <head> section.
<
script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script>
In the body section I have the following
<div id="block"></div>
<
script type="text/javascript">[code]....
Nothing is being output on the page at all. I've tried to patch this together from various example on various web sites. How can I make this work?
On my site i use a lot of features that are unsupported by older browsers, and right now it looks pretty stupid when the features are only partially shown. So i was wondering if there's a way of making the browser look to different css files depending on which browser and version it is. For example, css3 gradient backgrounds are supported in firefox 3.6 or something, but not in 3.0. All the hacks out there is to 3.*, so it changes for the allready working 3.6 too if i hack it. I want to controll it so that i have a specific css file for the none-supporting version and lower and one for the supporting and above. I looked at a bad browser plugin (because it has some of the basic features im looking for)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of .js files that I insert into my my html file using
the <script> tag, and this works just fine. The .js files contain
info about the menu, table set up, etc. and take care of the page
format.
But now, I have a tidbit of Javascript in an htm file, and this tidbit
opens up a new window with some information on it. I want to insert
all of the menu and format javascript files on this new window that it
opens. so, my question is: how would I do this: (since this doesn't work!)
output.document.write('<SCRIPT language=JavaScript

Anyone know a good site that'll teach you how to make a drop-down navigation
bar? I assume it is javascript
I have a drop down field that is dynamically populated using an XML sheet that looks like:
Code:
I populate the dropdown box using javascript that looks like this:
Code:
My the drop down form looks like this:
Code:
When a user clicks on the drop down box, all of the values inside "<title>" tags get displayed. Once the user has made their selection, the form is submitted and posts the user's option. My problem is that when the user clicks on the drop down box, I want them to see the content included in the "<title>" text but I want the form to post the data included in the "<xml>" tags.
For example, if the user clicks on the drop down menu and selects the option 'Animals' I want the form to post 'xml/animals.xml'. Any ideas how to handle this?

Can Java classes/objects be used from within the javascript code on the
HTML page? I.e., can I call a Java method from the javascript function?
in JSP, it's easy to pass value from java-variable to
javascript-variable, like
js_function(a)
{ a=<%java-class.A%>
}
I'm wondering how is the other way around? I tried
js_function(a)
{ <%java-class.A=%>a
}
but there was compiling error.
