Call Java Function In Body Tag?
Feb 20, 2003
I want to take a popup function and cause it to open Xseconds after the parent page has opened.
This is the script i want to run:
PHP Code:
<script type='text/javascript'>
<!--
function MM_openBrWindow(theURL)
{
newWin = open(theURL);
}
//-->
</script>
I altered it a little, just want to check i cut down newWin = open(theURL ,winName, features); not to include features and winName, I assume that these are NOT required attributes?
How do i do this?

I have a function that needs to get the innerHTML between the body tags once the page loads. However, when I put the JS in the header and call the function using window.onload, it gives me an error. If I put the javascript in the body, it only gets the code above the <script> tag. And I am going to call a server side user control that will put the javascript on the page, so I don't even know where in the page it will go.
It only works when I use the onload attribute in the body tag. i.e <body onload="javascript:fcn_name">
I am using document.body.innerHTML to get the html within the body tags. I tried using document.body.onload and other ways of doing it. Since I am trying to integrate this function within an already existing site, I cannot go through the hundreds of pages and modify the body tags.
Is there an alternative to using the onload attribute of the body tag?

I have a bunch of .js files that I insert into my my html file using
the <script> tag, and this works just fine. The .js files contain
info about the menu, table set up, etc. and take care of the page
format.
But now, I have a tidbit of Javascript in an htm file, and this tidbit
opens up a new window with some information on it. I want to insert
all of the menu and format javascript files on this new window that it
opens. so, my question is: how would I do this: (since this doesn't work!)
output.document.write('<SCRIPT language=JavaScript
src="/scripts/menu_array.js" type=text/javascript></SCRIPT>');

I am trying to call a java method from within my Javascript, but cannot
seem to get it to work. All the examples I have found online and in
the forums are using Java applets. I have a method that I want to call
that does a search, and produces a message dialog displaying the
results. Also, the class file lives next to the html file. How would
I invoke this in my code? This is what I have now:
<script>
function searchStrings(){
Searcher.search();
}
</script>
<form>
<input type="button" value="Search" onclick=searchStrings()>
</form>

Is it possible to make a javascript call before "<body onload='...'>"?
What I'm doing is a preview of numerous images in an iframe and I want to
resize the iframe to match each picture. Normally I'd use the 'onload' (on
the src-page holding the image in the iframe) attrubute, but it's not called
until the picture has finished loading. I'd like to resize the iframe before
(or at the same time) the image starts loading.

I'm building an ecommerce store that will not allow me access to the <body tag... Is there any way to load the onLoad js call another way?
I tried putting a layer with a high z-index and a clear pixel stretched out in it... I've tried the call as onLoad and as mouseover... I can't get it to work. What am I missing? If you'd like to see my mess, it's here:

I have a web page that has a short flash show on it, then it redirects to the main site index page, using a setTimout in body onload. That was all working fine. Now I need to add an OS detection function to redirect iphone and ipad users immediately (bypassing the flash pape). So, I have 2 functions that need to be in the body onload. I figured the logical thing to do would be to write another function that calls the first 2, then put that one in the onload. But now nothing is working. I have played with in for an hour with no luck.
Just as a note: Original, before I had to add the OS detection, there was just the delayer function, and it was called thusly:

This will work perfectly, but as soon as I need to pass Strings inside the selectShape function, I get stuck.
So the question is, how can I create the following and have it working

I have inherited some code and have sort of been going through a crash course with JS (typically I'm working in C/C++/Java/asm). The person before me used jQuery, which seems to be basically a convenience thing and for the most part I understand the applications they've used it in. However, one thing scares me. The primary JS file is prefaced with:
Code:
And I have no idea what that does. From what I can guess, it probably waits to define the rest of the code until the document has been entirely loaded, but when I wrap it around MY code it just breaks everything.

I have a poorly designed third-party API that I'm working with, and I need to, essentially, pull the anonymous function assigned to an onClick event and put it into another function where I can then add its body, another function call, and then reassign the onClick. I've found toSource on MDC , which looked promising, but it doesn't seem to work correctly or, more likely, I'm not using it right. But, also, it's labeled as non-standard, which isn't where I'd like to go, as this is for a public, production site.

The only way I know to make a script automatically run on the page is by using the "onLoad" property of the HTML body tag. However, I'm working with a template that serves the same header and footer for every page on my site, and this JavaScript is only needed on a single page. I therefore don't really want to edit the body tag with a function call that won't be needed in most cases.
To avoid doing this, is there any other way to make a piece of JavaScript run without input from the user? All I want to do is autofocus on a form field.

how to use an javascript function to redirect without using <body onload>.
Normally I use this: <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" Content="0;URL=ajax.php?page=mypage">
But since I'm using ajax, and only want to redirect tha ajax part, the above can not be used...
When I have a hyperlink to go to a page in ajax it looks like this: <a href="#" onclick="load('ajax.php?page=mypage','contentarea');return false;">
Is there anyway that I can have the ajax part set into the META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" or is there an other way to do this?
