Call Webservices Using Sript?

View 1 RepliesI'm doing some research about MS WCF 3.5 web services and how it can be used for json-based web services. All of the examples I'm finding use the asp.net ScriptManager tag on a server side page so that a js proxy for the web service methods gets created on page load. I don't want to use asp.net for page generation.
I'm looking for an example of how to use jquery in a non-asp.net rendered page to make calls to the WCF 3.5 web services. IE, I want my client side code to be server agnostic: it could be plain HTML, or an AIR app, etc....not an asp.net app, not a page rendered by asp.net. I think I'm basically looking for a way around having to rely on the asp.net ScriptManager to generate the js proxy: I just want to call the services via jquery ajax calls, without having to rely on what the proxy would generate for me.
BTW, this is research particularly for using WCF 3.5, so no need to recommend other backend WS technologies (unless maybe they are alternate WS engines that have a minimal C# learning curve and are not heavily bound internally to XML documents, like Dream is).
I need to make a $.post call on the beforeSend event of another $.ajax call.I read the documentation and I see that if the beforeSend return false the ajax call will be interrupt.So I made this code but doesn't work, because the real value of the beforesend function isn't true or false, is the value of the post.I have to do this because when you click on a link I need to verify before if you are able to do this via db permission of my webapp.I think you don't understand...This is the code:
$.ajax({
async: true,
beforeSend: function(){[code]....
});I see always the alert of success event, so the return of the beforesend is not correctly done.
The general framework is a simple user login function. The user name is selected and a password entered as usual. The function grabs the element values and passes them to a php page that queries the database. An AJAX call returns the password to the function and then I want the innerHTML to be a choice of two web pages, depending on success or failure of validation. There are existing AJAX functions available on the internet but they are overly complicated for what I think should be a simple, quick to load function.
Where I am stuck is that the standard procedure to make an AJAX call is the browser window event. How do you make the call from within the function? I have tried creating two new variables, "success" and "again" to replace xmlhttp, but still stumble on the event to assign a value. I left the blank password protection (if statement) with that variable to demonstrate what I mean.
I've put in my code below, which is in development and successfully alters the innerHTML text depending on user input but I can't figure out how to insert the relevant php page. I have '// out' the testing bits, but left them for info. (I have tried full 'scripting' as the innerHTML, but it's messy.)
<button onClick="return popup('<span onClick='selectShape(1, 1, 1)'>test<span>');" tabindex=Ɖ' onFocus="setFocusColor(0,3)">....</button>
This will work perfectly, but as soon as I need to pass Strings inside the selectShape function, I get stuck.
So the question is, how can I create the following and have it working
......selectShape(2, 'Tricky', ཤx5°').....
I have several form in my site, that validate on onsubmit.I call all the validation functions from a file call functions.js.Here is a sample of the code that is working:
<form name="contact" action="contact-insert.php method="post" onSubmit="return checkform()">
<label class='SubHeadlbl' for='TextField1'><?php echo IDS_EFORMNAME?><br></label>
<input type='text' name='dfname' class='text_field' id='dfname1' size='70' maxlength='40'/>
</form>
all the other forms are not working. all have the same structure:
<form name="frm1000" action="frm1000-insert.php method="post" onSubmit="return checkform1000()">
<label class='SubHeadlbl' for='TextField1'><?php echo IDS_EFORMNAME?><br></label>
<input type='text' name='dfname' class='text_field' id='dfname1000' size='46' maxlength='40'/>
</form>
I don't know what is happening only one for work all the others don't.
I have a bunch of .js files that I insert into my my html file using
the <script> tag, and this works just fine. The .js files contain
info about the menu, table set up, etc. and take care of the page
format.
But now, I have a tidbit of Javascript in an htm file, and this tidbit
opens up a new window with some information on it. I want to insert
all of the menu and format javascript files on this new window that it
opens. so, my question is: how would I do this: (since this doesn't work!)
output.document.write('<SCRIPT language=JavaScript
src="/scripts/menu_array.js" type=text/javascript></SCRIPT>');
Say I have <a onclick=' return Outline(this)' onmouseover=' return Outline(this)'>. How could I determine in Outline() that it was launched from a mouseover, as opposed to onclick?

I am writing a simle extension on Google Chrome. But chrome's extension API is not powerfull enough for my extension because i need file io operations for local files. That's why I need to call functions from dll which i write from javascript.
<script type='text/javascript' language='javascript'>
var obj = new ActiveXObject("plugin_proxychanger.dll");
var vResult = obj.plugin_header_class.plugin_header_func_read(3);
document.write(vResult);
</script>
I get this error on every browser: ReferenceError: ActiveXObject is not defined I research it on google and some users told me that i need to write a COM dll. But my dll is .net(2.0) because I don't know how to create a COM dll with Visual Studio 2010.
Not real big with JS but am going through a bunch of books and tuts ect.
For the moment I would like to know if there is a way to call up a pop up window from a button (have that done already) but have it stay on top of the main browser when you click back on the main browser. I'm using window.open=( ... to call the pop up window but have not found how to get the new window to stay on top when working back in original browser window that the pop-up was called from. Was able to set height, width, etc of the pop-up but not able to get it to stay on top. The one reference I saw was in an older book that stated it was only available in IE.
Would also like to know how to position the pop-up window when it is called.
Did not see a way to do this but maybe just didn't know what I was looking at or put the pieces together.

What I'm doing is a preview of numerous images in an iframe and I want to
resize the iframe to match each picture. Normally I'd use the 'onload' (on
the src-page holding the image in the iframe) attrubute, but it's not called
until the picture has finished loading. I'd like to resize the iframe before
(or at the same time) the image starts loading.
First let me describe the problem. I have an HTML form that in one
field has an onBlur call to a JavaScript function. When you exit the
field, it calls the JavaScript routine, which in turn calls a PHP
script. The PHP script runs returns the value needed. And returns to
the JavaScript. The JavaScript function is then supposed to set
alerts depending on the values returned from the PHP script. It
doesn't. If you then move the cursor into the field and exit again,
it again runs the JavaScript which calls the PHP script then
proceeds to show the alerts exactly like it is supposed to.
I did some experimenting, and if you use a button to run the
JavaScript, the exact same thing happens. Click the button and the
PHP script sends back the value, but no alert. You click the button
a second time, and the alert shows.
I am using the JavaScript monitor in FireFox v1.5 so I can see that
the PHP script is being called and returning the correct value the
first time. So what I am trying to figure out is why the routine has
to be called twice before I get my alert.
Below is the HTML, JavaScript & PHP that I am using....
I create some javascript to send some search request. However, on some machines i wont' be able to send request. What could be the reason?

request = null;

request.open('GET', srch_url , true );
request.onreadystatechange = GetSearchResponse;
request.send(null);

function GetSearchResponse()

I'm new to JS / Ajax; I've been trying to do an Ajax call to my

webservice returns a Dataset that contains various customer details
taken from database. I have tested that the Webservice itself works.
But my ajax call is not working.
My ajax call is something like:
