Alert Window Clearing Textboxes?

Jul 4, 2010

i am currently developing a java script based calcualtion form that will take the data entered in to a few text boxes, calculate a result and output.

I can get the results I want but my script is falling down on the validation code I have.

When the script is run it correctly picks up the validation failures and displays an alert prompt however once a user OK's the prompt the page then clears itself of all the user input data , I dont want this to happen.

what I want it to do is to throw the validation error and then let the user edit the data they had input.

HTML Window Focus Alert

Jul 23, 2005

I have a web site where multiple html pages are opened at a time & messages are received or those pages are refreshed automatically using meta-tag.

what I want is whenever that page is refreshed, the particular html window should notify user (as user may have opened other html window), now notification could be by setting focus to that html window which is refreshed, but then this will distract & frustate the user as he was referring other html window. What I would like to do is make that window blink or some notification like yahoo or msn mail received. But I want this kind of feature in HTML/Javascript.

JS Alert Causing Loss Of Window Focus???

Jul 23, 2005

I've got a strange problem in IE that I wonder if anyone has seen
before. Basically, I've got a two window scenario. The parent window
opens the child via window.open(). The child contains a form and
submissions are processed in the child window. When the child window
form is submitted and the results are returned, an alert box is thrown
up via setTimeout("alert(....)", 2000). For some odd reason, when
this alert is displayed, focus is transferred back to the parent
window with the alert box on top. When you press the OK button on the
alert, focus is transferred back to where it should be; on the child
window. This doesn't happen all the time. But it happens. Is there
something I can do to solve this mystery?

Displaying Upper ASCII (code 128-255) In Alert() Window.

Jul 23, 2005

Most of these characters are not on the standard keyboard.
Here's a successful contrivance, with comments & cautions,
a little page that works in IE6.

<HTML><HEAD><SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript">
function alt() {
document.all.s1.innerHTML="Current Temp: 68°F";
var txt=document.all.s1.innerText;
alert(txt);
}
</SCRIPT></HEAD>
<BODY>
<INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE="Temperature" onClick="alt()">
<P ID="s1" STYLE="visibility:hidden"> </P>
</BODY></HTML>

comments: The innerHTML property is needed to produce the
character glyph from the entity code. If the entity string
were passed to innerText(in 1st statement) then the code
would remain literal.

This work-around depends on s1 being rendered before alt()
is called. It will not work as immediately executed code,
because element s1 would not exist yet.

cautions: Trying to style alert's display will produce error
msgs. Do not use <B>, <U>, or <I> tags in the argument
string. No Heading tags either.

Strange enough, an inline STYLE, setting font values, say,
does not give error msg, but will not execute either.
Alert ignores it.

You can use <BR> tags in the argument, which give the same
result as
in a direct arg to alert().

In sum, you can tell alert what characters to display,
in what order, and on what line, but you cannot tell
alert HOW to display them.

Suppress OnBlur Validation Alert On Window Close

Dec 10, 2009

Using Javascript, ASP.net with C# code behind. I am validating a textbox using the onblur event. It is being validated in that it must have an alphanumeric entry before the user tabs off of it to the next box. The validation part works, the part that doesn't work is that I get the validation alert textbox if I close the window. I have a workaround in that I am assigning that textbox a character using windo.onberforeunload but I know that isn't right.

Here is what I have so far...
Code behind on Page_Load...
txtCLBRTNWC.Attributes.Add("onblur", "return reqVLD(this)");

Here is my textbox field...
<asp:TextBox ID="txtCLBRTNWC" runat="server" Width="75" MaxLength="4"
ontextchanged="txtCLBRTNWC_TextChanged" TabIndex="1"
onkeyup="clbwclngCHK(this);" ></asp:TextBox>

And here are the 2 functions being used...
function reqVLD(alphanumericChar){
var chk = /^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/;
// var boxid = document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value;
// var matchArray = boxid.match(chk);
if(document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value.match(chk)){
return true;
} else {
document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").focus();
document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value = "";
alert("Please enter a Work Center.");
return false;
}}
function clbwclngCHK(obj_in)//When txtCLBRTNWC entry hits the max of 4 auto focuses to next box. {
if (obj_in.value.length == 4) document.getElementById("<%=txtSTRTDT.ClientID%>").focus();
}

Here is my work around...
window.onbeforeunload = function (){
document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value = "1";
}

User has to enter something in box before they can move on. This is checked and validating using an onblur event. Problem is, the onblur event fires if closingexiting the window.

Top.close Closes The Window Before Responding To Alert In Child Frame

Dec 20, 2005

I am encountering a problem where I have a window and there are three
frames, one in the left, right and in the bottom. The bottom most frame has
common submit buttons. There are several tabs in left frame. Each one loads
a different form on the right frame. After fetching the contents of the form
from user, I am validating the text fields in the form using onChange() event
handler. After entering the text value in the textbox, if I press Submit
directly, the "Submit" as well as the validation routine happens concurrently.
Only at the end of validation, the field is marked as dirty. Now, if field is not
marked dirty, the Submit function will close the window without actually
submitting as nothing was changed. So when an invalid value is entered and
the Submit is pressed directly, an alert pops up temporarily but the close()
call from the parent frame immediately closes the alert window before user
can respond. This problem does not occur in IE as in IE, unless the alert
window is responded, the close() call cannot close the alert window. Code:

Jquery :: Create Some Links With Window.open Method - When I Alert What Is Being Built, The Links Don't Work?

Mar 10, 2010

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:

$("#content").empty();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",[code]..........

Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

Clearing Innerhtml On Mozilla

Dec 1, 2005

i'm having some problems getting innerhtml to clear on mozilla, but it
works fine in ie. my page is setup such that i have a div:

<div id="otherModel"></div>

on a select from a combo box, in my javascript i execute:
div = document.getElementById("otherModel");
depending on what's selected in a combobox, i execute:
var inner2 = "<p>Other Model:<br />";
inner2 = inner2 + "<input type='text' id='otherModel' ";
inner2 = inner2 + "size=&#3920;' maxlength=&#3930;' value='Enter Model'>";
div.innerHTML = inner2;
or simply:
div.innerHTML = "test";

This all works fine independantly; it'll either fill with my textbox,
or the test string. but if the innerhtml is filled with the text box,
then i make a new selection that fills it with "test", it doesn't clear
out the text box.

If i replace the variable inner2 with simple text, everything seems to
work great (but i need a text box!).
