Ajax :: Not Working In IE, Works Perfect In Firefox?
Feb 23, 2009
I've been banging my head against this for a bit now and have been reading all kinds of things - but, everything I try has failed. So, I thought I'd ask.I've just begun working with Javascript/Ajax .. in the last day to try and accomplish a task but, I can't seem to get this code to work in IE it works fine in Firefox.Perhaps someone can enlighten me - Basically, this is calling back from a php file that updates from a database to choose dropdowns/checkbox based on the users choices.
function getSex(theSex, myParent){
var ajaxRequest;
try{

OK, never seen anything like this before. I have this AJAX shopping cart I am developing where they add a product and the side bar of the site updates what's in the cart automatically. Works perfect in all browsers except IE (6 and 7).In IE it works the first time you add a product then after that the sidebar does not update AND there are no JavaScript errors. The cart is actually updated because when you refresh the page all the items you added are there.... got me scratching my head to say the least.Here's the scripts that run it (a little messy because I am still tinkering with it:
Code JavaScript:
function add_to_cart(id) {
variables = "product_id=" + document.getElementById('prod_id_' + id).value;
[code]....

I've been building a site that will rely very heavily on ajax calls to save server load and to spice things up a bit. So, so far I've successfully made several different ajax calls in Firefox. I'm mainly using the following code

Yhe button I am using working perfecting in FireFox and Chrome but not in Internet explorer. (Yes I know someone that actually uses IE that pointed this out to me) The rest of the code works fine but just not the reset button I have. Something I have been needing to do is make the code call my images differently by putting them in an array so I don't mess this the sources of my images like I sloppily am here, but I am not sure if that will actually fix the problem I am have. The checkbox should both uncheck the box(if checked) AND change the picture but it only unchecks the box. Here is the relevant code let me know if you want me to post the whole thing.
function reset(){
cb1.checked=false;
document.goodAfternoon.src=goodAfternoonFinal.src;
}
"Check" me out;) <input type="checkbox" id="cb1" onClick="validate()" />
<img src="Good Afternoon.gif" name="goodAfternoon">
<input type="button" id="cb2" value="RESET" onClick="reset()"/>

we've got some pretty simple javascript that calls a random html file into a div on a very simple page. The called file contains a vimeo embed in an iframe.
This script works perfectly in Safari and Chrome, but not FF. in FF the first html file to be called remains, no matter how many times you refresh the page.
Is this due to FF handling iframes differently, or do I need to modify the script to work within FF as well as the others due to a nuance I'm not aware of? Perhaps the randomising part of the script is incorrecT?
$(document).ready(function(){
// each video's html filename needs to be added to this array
vids=['assets/jerkit.html','assets/ponytail.html','assets/goldenprize.html','assets/thedrug.html','assets/slipperyslope.html','assets/leavingtrails.html','assets/tooinsistent.html','assets/sisterwife.html','assets/senior.html','assets

I have an html file with an Ajax form submit which works perfectly locally but when I upload it onto a server it works partially except for the:success: function(){}doesn't initiate, it actually inserts the data into the database and everything like it's supposed to but it doesn't process that it's successful.

The minimal AJAX script below works in Firefox, but not in IE, Opera, or Chrome.I could use some suggestions or referrals to resources that will help me get the script working in other browsers.Before there are six characters entered in the CAPTCHA code field, the 'Send' button is supposed to be disabled. When there are at least six characters in the CAPTCHA code field, the script attempts to verify the CAPTCHA w/AJAX. If it verifies, it enables the Send button and sets the background of the CAPTCHA code field light green (symbolic for go). Otherwise, it turns the background of the CAPTCHA code field a sort of pink/red (symbolic for no go). While it's waiting for a server response the background is set to a pastel yellow. At other times, the background of the code field is white.

I'm having an issue in firefox. Here's my ajax call:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "newcoleng",
data: "F10=Yes&F11=No",
success: function(data){
alert( "Data Saved: " + data );
}
});
The post always comes back a success in both IE and Firefox. The html response comes back as expected when using IE. However, the html response when using Firefox brings back an error from the server instead of what is expected. I'm not sure why there is a difference when using Firefox. My guess is that the content-type that the server is expecting is not correct when using Firefox.

Here's another cross-over issue between the two browsers: IE and Firefox Please, take the time to view my test website: www seemyinvestments dot com I suggest you use Firefox first, Note the first page will be the index.php for the very website itself. Please, scroll down the source code file until you see the following line: $mainframe =& JFactory::getApplication('site');
Note the word, JFactory, is underlined, and the word, getApplication, is in green. Clicking on either word will successfully invoke a AJAX function in Firefox. For example, a popup window will appear in the upper-righthand corner of the browser if you click on the green word, getApplication. (The popup has test data in it so it doesn't make any sense right now.) Clicking on the word, JFactory, will display that source code file using AJAX....quick and clean.
With Internet Explorer, this is all suddenly broken! I swear it worked as good as in Firefox, and now suddenly nothing happens. With IE, two runtime errors occur. One Syntax Error, Line 214, and the other is a 'Expected Identifer' error, Line 4114. How the heck can I track down these errors? (What's out there an IE equalvent to FireFox's Error Console??)

When you click a link i want all of the data that is linked to that news item to display underneath. Now i have got this to work except it will not work in Firefox, all other browsers it is fine.
