Ajax :: Executing Script Returned By XMLHttpRequest?

Mar 13, 2009

I was wondering if it was possible to execute javascript returned by ajax (XMLHttpRequest)? I can see that the script is returned by it doesn't execute. Here is what it returns. I can see the output but when I click on it nothing happens.

Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function hi(name){
var latBox = document.getElementById("myinfo");
latBox.innerHTML = "<div>Greetings: " + name + "</div>";
}
</script>
<p onClick="hi('hi');">Math.random = " + Math.random() + "</p>

'executing Code Retreived By XMLHTTPRequest

Oct 27, 2007

I am having some difficulties getting some inline js code to run when
retrieved via AJAX by XMLHTTPRequest.

Basically I am running a php script every 15 secs or so that does a query of
a mysql database, checks to see if any new chat requests have been sent to
the user, and if so, it is simply returning them via a "echo" statement, and
the info is placed into a DIV in my sidebar.

Now when I add something in like:
<script type="text/javascript">
alert('you have a chat request');
</script>

it runs if i go ahed and run the script by itself, i get the chat requests
and the alert to popup. When the script is called via AJAX and loaded into
the div, I get the message from the mysql query about chat info, but no
javascript alert.

Am i just missing something stupid here? Like I said, it works when I run
the script by itself, just not when called via XMLHTTPRequest.

Ajax Sometimes Stops Executing

Sep 16, 2006

I'm jusing prototype-1.4.0.js as framework.

I have a function to populate three listboxes. The items in the
listboxes are from a MYSQL database and are related. The items are
requested by a php page.

Most of the time everything works fine, but sometimes I end u with only
one or two listboxes.

I can't figure out what's going wrong here. I've tested in Firefox and
Internet Explorer, both the same problem.

Does anyone know why my code sometimes stops executing?
Could it be that i made too many requests in a short time so the next
request can't execute because the current has't finished?

Hope anyone has an idea of what's going wrong.

Ajax :: XMLHttpRequest Stuck At 0

Sep 27, 2010

It is day two of the same problem (and day two of learning Ajax, day five of Javascript)

The current code (below) does nothing; it does not go into the showContents function. Switching the order of some items would cause it to enter the function, but it would always alert that the xhr status was 0. I guess this is an improvement?

php doc that is getting requested (I don't think the error is here as the problem is that it is not even initializing):

Code:

javascript code that is requesting the information:

Code:

I need to pass the num variable because the fields I am dealing with are part of a bunch of fors that create an unspecified number of fields titled 1source, 2source, 3source, etc.

AJAX :: <div> Tag That Contains A Table Of Results Returned

Jan 9, 2009

I have a <div> tag that contains a table of results returned using AJAX. I have an onmouseover on the div so that when the user is viewing the results the div stays visible. An onmouseout is also declared so that when the user goes off of the div, it will disappear after a few seconds. When the user clicks on an entry I perform some logic and close the div.

However the problem occurs when my AJAX returns too many results to display in the set size of my div. When this occurs my div becomes scrollable. When the user is interacting with the scrollable, it seems to fire the onmouseout event because the div disappears.

JQuery :: .ajax Success With XMLHttpRequest In 1.3.x?

Jan 15, 2011

My app recently upgraded to 1.4 and as such started using the XMLHttpRequest in the success callback of the .ajax function however we been forced to roll back to 1.3.2 due to performance issues with IE7 (forced to use in a corporate environment) Is there any way to get access to the XMLHttpRequest after an ajax call? If not, would anyone be so kind as to point out if its possible to modify the 1.3.2 source to add the parameter to the success call back like in 1.4? I am hoping its a simple modification however I could be wrong. We are set to upgrade to the lastest jQuery when we get a browser upgrade to IE9 but that could be up to a year away and I would really like to continue to use the XMLHttpRequest in my app as its a lot faster than my old approach.

Ajax :: Create An Xmlhttprequest Object ?

May 7, 2011

I am trying to create an xmlhttprequest object to update the shopping cart on my web page without submitting the entire page to the server for processing. However, what I have done so far is not working. All that is happening when I click the "update cart" button is the page sort of flashes and the check marks in the remove item check boxes disappear. The first code snippet is the "traditional" way of submitting the whole page to the server for processing - and it works. The second snippet is what I have done to try and implement AJAX to submit only the shopping cart - and it does not work.

AJAX :: Reading XMLHttpRequest.responseXML?

Feb 8, 2009

I am trying to build a very simple Ajax example with JavaScript and PHP. Basically, the goal is to populate a select list with values dependent on the selection in another list. I am able to do a GET from a server-side script and I see the XML displayed correctly in XMLHttpRequest.responseText. However, when I try to check XMLHttpRequest.responseXML, I am not able to get anything out of it. The alert() shows it as an "Object", so it's not null. I have tried getElementByTagName() from both responseXML and responseXML.documentElement, each time giving a legitimate inner tag, but nothing comes out. What is the correct way of doing it? This is my JavaScript and HTML code:

JQuery :: Animate Ajax Returned Data ?

Jul 8, 2010

$.ajax({

So I'm loading the div#my_events by prepend(data) where "data" is another well styled div. Is there anyway to animate this returned data. Unfortunately I can't just specify a unique ID on the incoming data. So I was wondering how else I might be able to address this data I'm returning.

It is basically a topic list, with a modal that sends jquery to add a topic to the database, and returns the topic from the database, hides the modal, and displays the last added topic at the top of the topic list. Now I'd like it to do something slightly fancy like animate the color of the background to bring the user's attention to it.

JQuery :: Events On Elements Returned Using Ajax?

Oct 7, 2010

I define a "click" event on "a" tags in the ready part of a page. It fires just fine when I click on any "a" tag on the page. I then have a button which sets the content of a div using ajax. This content contains a couple of "a" tags. The issue now is that the "click" event does NOT fire when clicking on these tags. I suspect it is because they did not exist when the page was initially rendered. What is the "JQuery way" of dealing with an issue like this? Of course I cannot be the only one in the world who needs to return HTML with events from my ajax calls :-)

JQuery :: Ajax Returned Data Format ?

Sep 23, 2009

Getting information from a php file. Basically :

MY JAVASCRIPT FILE:

In this dumb example, I'm unable to match the 'data' returned variable with the value I assigned to it in php (I can't manage to enter my 'do stuff'), yet its value is 'ok' if I display it. I have no problem to retrieve html code from php and inject it in my pages, but I can't test it as a regular javascript string.

What's wrong in this ? What have I missed about the 'data' format ? Do I have to 'cast' data to a javascript string (and if so, how ?)

JQuery :: No Data Being Returned From AJAX Call

Jun 3, 2010

I am currently using $.ajax to post to a Perl file that queries a webservice and returns XML. Running the Perl via command line confirms that XML is being returned with Content-Type: application/xml. However, regardless if I set the dataType parameter to "xml", "XML" or just use jQuery's intelligent guess, it appears that I am not getting any data returned to my function at all.

I've tried using the full $.ajax notation and the simplified $.get notation as follows:

and:

I have also tried using JQuery to perform a "GET" directly to the webservice which returns XML by default and still I get no data returned to my function.

Although I doubt it's browser-related, I have confirmed this in both Chrome (5.0.375) and Firefox (3.6.3).

AJAX :: Parsing A String Returned With Technology?

Dec 6, 2009

Through an AJAX implementation, I am receiving a SQL Query result that has:An object's attribute delimited by a comma.An entire object (database row) delimited by a colon.This is an example response to make it more clear for you.

1,Jeremy,130,80;2,Lauren,370,300;3,Jeancarlos,200,200;4,Luke,330,70;5,Bloom,392,108;

What I am trying to achieve is placing all of this data into an array. I've set up a little test bed to try and get this to work; this is all I have so far:

var testString = "1,Jeremy,130,80;2,Lauren,370,300;3,Jeancarlos,200,200;4,Luke,330,70;5,Bloom,392,108";
var testArray = new Array();
testArray = testString.split(";");[code]....

get a multi-dimensional array that has information for each person. Example:

FinalArray[0][0] = 1
FinalArray[0][1] = Jeremy
FinalArray[0][2] = 130

JQuery :: Ajax - Don't Declare XMLHttpRequest Object

Mar 16, 2011

I find ajax with jquery more confusing than with regular JS, b/c in jQuery you don't declare XMLHttpRequest object.. so how do you do something like:

In example I mention here,[url] namely [url] I don't understand where var 'msg' is declared, I know it comes from the back-end, but HOW is it passed to the front-end? (how do you do this w/o responseText or something similar?)

I'm trying to connect to a send-mail jsp with ajax.. the email is not getting sent.. I want to test if the ajax connection is being made at all.. don't know how do it w/o something like xmlHttp.responseText

This is my jQuery ajax code for connecting to send-email jsp:

var dataToSend = "name=sName&email=sEmail&msg=sMsg;

JQuery :: Ajax Result Is Returned In The Wrong Sequence?

Jun 15, 2011

I have a text-box. On the event of `OnKeyup` a function is triggered that looks like this:

$.getJSON(url,function(data){
$.each(data, function(key, value) {
showSearchResult(value);
});
});

No my problem is that when you type really fast then the return search result does not always return relevant to the current value of the textbox.

[I did think of adding a very small time-interval on the onkeyup event but i thought there might be a cleverer way of doing it ]

This problem is because the Ajax calls do not sometimes return in the same sequence that they were fired.
