I have a page [parent], on it is a link to a popup [child] that opens up a form. On the [parent] page is a list of entries from the table in the DB.
So basically once a form is submitted on the [child] page, I want the list of entries on the [parent] page to be refreshed
I use this code in a popup to refresh the parent browser. It works fine
as long as the user actually clicks on this link but does not work in
cases where the user closes the child popup through the Windows X
(close) button. Any way to accomodate this also?

I'm trying to adapt this code:[url] but Idon't want to load jQuery from the <iframe> again but I need to have the method $.ajax() working from the <iframe> otherwise it would be a cross-domain request and the browser would abort it. I tried ingenuously to set via $('iframe')[0].contentWindow.$.ajax = $.ajax() and I just got a shortcut to the parent page jQuery method. I also tried to "clone" it using $.expand (true...) but the method doesn't work for me; probably because of the complexity of the objected I'm trying to clone. So is there a way for me to use jQuery to have only a $.ajax() method in the <iframe> ? I've thought even about creating a XHR in the child-iframe and then use that in the $.ajaxSetup ({xhr: THATNEWXHR}) but I couldn't do it. I mean, I want to use the XHR factory from jQuery (which has fallbacks for IE, etc) but it has to be created from the iframe-child.
Maybe there is other way to make the AJAX call come from the child-iframe.
If you're wondering "why don't you load jQuery from <script> in the child-iframe", there is a reason... As I'm using jQuery plugins + my own custom javascripts + other independent scripts I created a compiler which minifies each file and bundle them in one. The advantage of this is the reduction of HTTP requests. So "why don't you load that bundle inside the child-iframe?", because it's ugly and Twitter doesn't... Yeah, I like to take Twitter as a reference and I think if they were able to make it so can I;
I got to work in most browsers except IE and Operaby doing it with pure javascript.
I'm "attaching" the code for you guys to test. If you open it with Chrome, Safari or Firefox you will receive 2 alerts one with the return of $.get() and another with the return of a request made via XMLHttpsRequest object. Otherwise (if you open it with IE or Opera) you'll get 'undefined' in the first alert but the real return in the second.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to have a main form (written in PHP) that has a "lookup" button next to a text field. When the user clicks "lookup", it should open a new window that lets them search (child.page1). When they enter a name or DOB into the search form, it submits the form through PHP (via POST), to a results page (child.page2). This displays all persons in the database which have a name or DOB == to the search term(s), with a checkbox next to each match. They click the checkbox (or alternenatively, a link), and return the checkbox value to the main window.
I have everything working right now, except that (child.page2) doesn't recognize the main window. If the data is entered on (child.page1), it works fine. I'm not very familiar with javascript.. is this even possible? I've considered using frames, to keep the parent-child relationship evident to the computer, but figured I'd check to see if there's an easier way.
Im using keyup function to track text typed in input box. The idea is to perform incremental search in db. This works fine. After this I update the html dynamically to display the filtered resuts and at the same time I must dynamically rewrite the html for input box code. After this the keyup function is not working anymore, allthough the id tag is the same? How should I get around this?

I have one page which have two ifrmaes, parent iframe contains no of child iframe. Now oncliking child iframe check box, I have to get that value into parent iframe, I managed to create array of parent iframe but can't get child ifrmae's control. I used like this:

I have 40 or 50 inputs scattered among many pages that all need the
ability to open a popup which allows the user to navigate a file
directory structure, locate a specific file, and return the fully
qualified file name to the parent window input. All the 40 or 50 inputs
have unique IDs. Given any one input ID, I have everything working
perfectly: the parent form opens the popup using

Like I said, give me the input field ID and I can make everything work
every time... but it makes NO sense to write 40 or 50 functions, one
for each unique input field. I tried using

but I keep getting an error message about something requiring an
object. Is there a way to accomplish this? Also, since I'm new to
JavaScript (and web programming generally), is there a good tool for

I have a table of data, grouped by Month, Year and then ProjectID:
- Month, Year
- ProjectID
- Job1
- Job2
The Month, Year row controls a collapsable row (ProjectID) and in turn, the ProjectID row controls the Job row(s). The problem I'm having is that if the Job row(s) is open, then 'close' the Month, Year row, the Job row(s) stay visible. How can I control all 'child' rows from the 'parent' Month, Year control?

After open a child window, I would like to keep parent window on focus. I tried self.focus(), set new window in blur() as well as setting the setInterval, none of them works in either Firefox or IE. I think this question relates to the opening window in tab rather than in new window.

I have a parent page who allows user to view an invoice for service. My page bases the date and the value for payment to <%now%> and to <%total_price%>.
However I'd like to permit for users to editing those two fields by opeing a popup window with a new form and asking for these two new inputs. Afterward off corse, this values need to populate the equivalent fields on the parent page.
My questions:
1)I'm opening the new window after a js confirm instead of href or onclick methods, so I don't know how to pass the parent variable ID to the child window..

system. I have access to the html page. I added code to open a child window
from this page. However when the parent window closes, the child closes
too. Is there a way to keep the child window open? Yes keep it orphaned.
I have made a remote control window which opens from its parent. On loading, the remote is positioned relative to the screen using window.moveTo(x,y).
What I would like to happen is the remote control to open docked in a
