Accessing Web Control Variables

View 1 RepliesI have an HTML file input control, like this:
Code:
<input type="file" id="FormsFileSelector" name="FormsFileSelector" size="40" maxlength="1000" style="width: 382px; white-space: pre;"
accept="image/gif,image/jpg,image/jpeg/,image/tiff,image/bmp"
>
And it does indeed allow the user to select a file on his computer.
But when I access the value of the control I get an odd value. I do this, in javascript:
Code:
var FileSelector = document.getElementById("FormsFileSelector");
var FileName = FileSelector.value;
And the FileName that I get is "C:/fakepath/MyPicture.jpg"
The actual path is C:/MyDocuments/MyPictures/MyPicture.jpg". But instead it's coming up with "fakepath".
Very weird! How do I get it to return the actual full path to the file on the user's computer?
Is it possible to access javascript variables in an iframe src page from the parent page, or vice versa. How do you do this? What about the DOM?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an html page and an external javascript page.
in the head section of my html i define two variables that are equal to the return value of functions in my .js file.
but when i try and access these variables from the head of my html in the body, I get a "variableName" is not defined error.
Code:

I've attached a cut-down version of a script I am working on. It's a pretty simple button with a function attached, which creates a random number and compares it with a preset value.I can't seem to get the function to read the variables
Code:
#<html header>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

I'm trying to set a variable which a remote page can access. I can do this, but I need to set this variable inside "window.onload = functio(){". When I do this the remote page can't access it. This is a breakdown of what I'm doing:
Code:
var attrIndexes = [];
$.get(queryString, function(data) {
attrIndexes = data.split(",");
});
after running this code the original variable is empty so something is wrong
I have got a following problem with using javascript:
I have a HTML page with pictures' thumbnails. After clicking on any
thumbnail, I would like to open a new window with the original size
picture. In the main window with thumbnails, I have got following
important stuff: Code:
I've got a function displayResults(imageArray); that first calls removeElements(); to get rid of the currently displayed list items. Both functions are part of class function eventBox(array, string, date). both displayResults(imagearray); and removeElements(); have been bound to eventBox(); by e.g. this.removeElements = removeElements;
However, from within displayResults(imageArray); this.removeElements(this.identifier + "eventsul"); evaluates to "undefined". Also, this.identifier called from within the function also evaluates to undefined (it doesn't in other functions). For some reason I can't access global functions and variables from displayResults(imageArray);. Any ideas?
Here is the code for displayResults(imageArray); :
function submitPartsForm(str) {
var count=document.getElementsByName("partId");
for(var i=0;i<count.length;i++)
{
document.mylist.myNum[i].value= document.getElementsByName("partNum")
(i).value;}
document.forms["mylist"].submit();
}
myNum[] is a hidden variable and partNum is the name of a text field
that has many instances i mean there are many textfields with the same
name so it forms a column in a data table.
Situation:I have a very long page divided into many sections vertical-wise marked by bookmarks, say pageX.html#s1 to s10. I need to show the section inside an iframe (iFrame1) on the mainpage (mainpage.html). I am thinking of having 4 buttons, sitting on the mainpage, to help navigate between these sections on pageX, namely NEXT, PREVIOUS, TOP, END.condition of the frame, fixed width/height, no scroll, no border.Very new to javascript but need this code to make a page work for BIZ.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some JavaScript which is splitting out the different variable elements from the URL.Now, how do I set the internal variables?Then I want to set the variable ScriptHeading to be Change and the variable ScriptType to be NewThread.I keep finding all sorts of lovely code showing how to split out the various sections in many different ways, but I can't find anything on how to actually set these variables.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a program written in Javascript and fully functioning which takes a user-selected directory name and then displays all the photos in that directory in a certain format.
I am now wanting to expand the program to allow users to optionally enter their own strings and the program will use all the photos from www.flickr.com which use that string as a tag.
I have a PHP interface to flickr (called PHPflickr) which collects all the relevant photo urls. I now need to get these images back into my Javascript so I can process them using the existing functions (rather than rewrite all my functions in PHP code and have two sets of functions in the program). I found on another thread a means to do this for a date variable:
var jsArray = new Array(
<?php
$length = count($monthDataArray);
for ($i = 0; $i < $length; $i++)
{
echo '"' . addslashes($monthDataArray[$i]) . '"' . (($i < $length - 1) ? ',' : '') . "
";
}
?>
but being completely new to PHP I'm not sure what "addslashes" might be or what formatting will be necessary if I am starting with an array of urls. Code:
I've opened a pop up with javascript.
How would I go about controlling the parent window from the pop up, ie. changing it's content:
I tried this in in the pop up
<a href="new_page.htm" target="parent"> but that just opens up a new window.
does anybody know how I am able to control Flash Movies from html
or JavaScript? For example, I want a movie go to a specific frame
each time I open the html file where it is embedded.
I have a form frm1 . The form is generated by a "control" that is placed on
the page - I have no access to the source to modify the controls. I can
access other hidden controls within it by referencing:
ocontainer.frm1.txt1.value;
I would like to insert my own hidden control that can be posted back to to
my page so I can do something with it. How can I do this from clientside at
runtime?
Is there a possibility to compare and visualize in a user-friendly way
the differences of two html files?
I need also something like a version-control. I think I could generate
for everychange of the text a new record in the database. But now I
need a tool (JavaScript, Java, etc.) to compare and visualize two
versions of these html-files online over a web-browser.
I know, this is not really a javascript topic, but perhaps here is
anyone how knows a tool for that.
In HTML documents, named forms may be referred to as named
properties of the `` document.forms '' collection, and named form
controls may be referred to as named properties of the form's
elements collection:
var frm = document.forms["formname"];
var contrl = frm.elements["elementname"];
The (string) value property of such controls can be read
directly from the element:-
var value = contrl.value;
var value = (+contrl.value); //string to number: see 4.21
One exception is where the control is a SELECT element, and
support for older browsers, such as NN4, is required:
var value = contrl.options[contrl.selectedIndex].value;
Another exception is where several controls share the same name,
such as radio buttons. These are made available as collections
and require additional handling. For more information, see:-
