Accessing An Array Entry's Item?
Oct 29, 2009I created an array, whose entries looks like this:
[41, "The bird flew into it's cage"]
[33, "He drew fire from Joe"]
[33, "Roger asked her her name"]

when I try this:
<!DOCTYPE HTML>

I have a value, j[i] , which Ineed to do the following with:1) split with / to make an array2) Return the last valueFor example:Continent/country/State/City..and it would return "City", and with:Continent/country/State..it would return "State"Can anyone point me in the right direction?In Perl, I would just do:
my @tmp = split ///, $val;
my $last_val = $tmp[$#tmp];
I'm refering to an entry in an array by it's string key, as in
foo["bar"]. Is there a way to get the numeric index of that array
without iterating through the entire array?
What I need to do is find the "next" or "previous" entry in the array,
but the keys are strings, instead of numerical indeces.
How do I search through an array looking for an inputted entry? Ihave this so far. Also need it to display where the object was found.
var states = new Array();
var i;
i=0;
states[0] = "Alabama";
states[1] = "Alaska";
states[2] = "Arizona";
states[3] = "Arkansas";
states[4] = "California";
states[5] = "Colorado";
states[6] = "Connecticut";
states[7] = "Delaware";
states[8] = "Florida";
states[9] = "Georgia";
states[10] = "Hawaii";
states[11] = "Idaho";
states[12] = "Illinois";
states[13] = "Indiana";
states[14] = "Iowa";
states[15] = "Kansas";
states[16] = "Kentucky";
states[17] = "Louisiana";
states[18] = "Maine";
states[19] = "Maryland";
states[20] = "Massachusetts";
states[21] = "Michigan";
states[22] = "Minnesota";
states[23] = "Mississippi";
states[24] = "Missouri";
states[25] = "Montana";
states[26] = "Nebraska";
states[27] = "Nevada";
states[28] = "New Hampshire";
states[29] = "New Jersey";
states[30] = "New Mexico";
states[31] = "New York";
states[32] = "North Carolina";
states[33] = "North Dakota";
states[34] = "Ohio";
states[35] = "Oklahoma";
states[36] = "Oregon";
states[37] = "Pennsylvania";
states[38] = "Rhode Island";
states[39] = "South Carolina";
states[40] = "South Dakota";
states[41] = "Tennessee";
states[42] = "Texas";
states[43] = "Utah";
states[44] = "Vermont";
states[45] = "Virginia";
states[46] = "Washington";
states[47] = "West Virginia";
states[48] = "Wisconsin";
states[49] = "Wyoming";
So, I am attempting to select a random entry from an array, and then make it so that particular entry will not be selected again until every entry has been selected. Basically, I don't want to see any of the same entries, until all of the entries in the array have been selected.
So if this were my array....
keywords =
[
"ppc",
"games",
[Code]....
since meta was selected a second time before everything had been selected once.
I would like to see something more like
meta, advertise, gaming,ppc, welcome, home, games, advertise, ppc, since this did not select any entry multiple times before every entry had been randomly selected.( the second loop started at the second "advertise" in case you didn't catch the differences.
But as you can see from the code that I have posted above, I do not know how to do this. I have seen examples where the entries that were randomly selected, were actually deleted from the array entirely but this is not what I want to do. I just want every entry to be selected once, and then for the process to be restarted.
I'm trying to grab values from a set of arrays based on the value returned by my select box.
**Caveat - this is not an area I have any real experience with**
My arrays look like:
Code JavaScript:
I then need to test for each, then associate with one of my fees arrays, then grab each of the values in the array and write those values to elements within my page.
I'm then doing this to evaluate for each degree
Code JavaScript:
I need to first figure out how best to import all of these 60+ arrays and then in each of my conditions pull out each value and write to my page.
There is a unique 1 to 1 relationship between each degree and array so I can't consolidate as the values for each degree differ slightly.
I am trying to accomplish a fairly basic task with javascript > my lack of Js knowledge has meant i have hit something of a roadblock.I need the a function to take an array from a form, remove the parsed variable from it and repost the form with the new array.This is what I have so far...
<script language="javascript">
function remove(SID) {
var speakers = document.form_name.elements["SID[]"];
[code]....
I have a textbox on one of my forms that is used to accept a time from the
user. I need to write this value to a database to trigger an event later on.
What I'd like to know is...
Are there any functions in javascript that can convert different time
formats to a known format (24 hour clock)... 5pm -> 17:00 or 5:00 to 05:00,
etc. ???
Assuming that I get the input into a 24 hour format, how can I create a full
time/date variable with todays date and the users entered time?
Finally, if the entered time is earlier than the current time, how can I
create the above date/time combination using tomorrows date?
If I have this array
Code:
testarray = [
["1", "test1", "test11"],
["3", "test3", "test33"],
["5", "test5", "test55"],
["2", "test2", "test22"]
];
How do I access the 2nd column of the 2nd row?
I tried:
Code:
alert(testarray[1][1]);
But it says undefined.
<script type="text/javascript">
function popsizes(colorcode) {
var BLK=new Array();
BLK = ["2XL","3XL","4XL","5XL","LG","MD","SM","XL","XS"];
elem = document.getElementById("selcolor");
for (i=0; i<elem.options.length; i++){
sizelist = colorcode[i];
document.getElementById("selsize").options[i] = new Option(sizelist);
}}
</script>
In an event, i'm passing in "BLK" as the colorcode param. This is creating my selsize select box with B, L, K, and undefined options until the for loop finishes. ie, its taking the passed in colorcode as a literal string, instead of referencing the array. Anyone have a pointer as to how i can access the arry, instead of the literal string?
What's the best (i.e. fastest) way to find out if an array contains a given
value? Other than looping, the only way I know to do it is to use an
associative array/hash instead....
Is there a better/faster way?
I.e if I have a list of names, what's the best way to find out if the aray
contains "jane"?
I have something like this:
var images = $('#container img'); // my new array
images.get(images.length - 2).addClass('show');
error is like this:
Error: $("#container img").get(images.length - 2).addClass is not a function
I have two different arrays with the same number of element. The 1st array holds the ID's and the 2nd one holds the Items....i want to use both of them in a Jquery autocomplete plugin.. showing the the 2nd one values but getting the value of the 1st arr.
I was wondering if there is a way to combine both in one in Javascript.
like Arr3 =[arr1, arr2] where i display arr2 elemnt and pass arr1 elements?
This randomising function is like a coin toss, it gives a numerical result and displays it:
function Ran() {
var c = Math.random();
return (c < 0.5) ? [0, show0()] : 1, show1()];
}
I want to extract the numerical outcome, 0 or 1, from this and from two other similar functions, sum them, and then run more functions based on the possible sums.
What is the syntax for getting to the numbers? something like
var n = Ran().[0] ?
I have an array of 6 items. I want to select 2 at random and then add an item to the start. Here's my randomiser [code]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently putting together a trivia game and I have stored several items in an array for example the questions, and the answers, points value... etc.
but my dilemma is I have to assign an "id" to the elements in the the array so i can use the function getElementById() to call the information. I do not have a clue how to do this.
*** also the second issue is my array is showing an error as UNDEFINED BUT i have declared it in "var triviaArray"
this is my array:
var triviaArray = new Array [
triviaArray["What's the capitol of Canada?","TORONTO","VANCOUVER","OTTAWA","QUEBEC",10,"choice3"],
triviaArray["How old was Michael Jackson when he died?","35 yrs","50 yrs","40

In my HTML, I have several of the following:
<input type='checkbox' name='right[]' id='right[]' value=Ɔ' />
All are the same except the value is set differently for each one. The
reason for the [] is so I can access the checkbox values as an array on
the processing page (when clicking 'Submit');
However, I want my Javascript code to examine these objects first. My
onclick event handler function (below) is called (I get the 'hi there'
popup), but it does nothing afterward (i.e., neither 'checkbox' alert
appears, and the handler, strangely, seems to return 'true').
I suppose my problem is that I am not specifying the checkbox array
properly. I tried several variations, but I've been working on this
problem alone for several hours and am getting nowhere. Code:
Is it possible to target certain <li> in an unordered list by index with jQuery? I thought maybe I could use .index but was not able to get the syntax right. I thought maybe something like this would work but is has not:
$("#mycarousel > li").index(i).css("margin-right", "5px");
I have this array code...
and i wanna to add more items in special values , but doesn't work code...
I'm trying to improve a google maps api implementation.
Here is a sample of the code i'm using:
(I've highlighted the sections i'm having issues with)
Code:
function load() {
if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) {
geocoder = new GClientGeocoder();
[Code]....
Basically, i'm trying to re-create the array latlng which searchLocations() creates and submit it myself with pre-programmed co-ordinates in the load() function using searchLocationsNear(latlng);
here I have array :
Code:
l[1.0]='A';
l[1.4]='B';
l[3.0]='C';
[code]...
And time :
Code:
var time = document.getElementById("time").innerHTML;
But making it
Code:
document.getElementById("k").innerHTML = l[time];
puts false into mine div, time changes alot and is in same format as array names.That function is repeated every 100 microseconds :
Code:
window.setTimeout(myFunction, 100);
Trying to do that in console tells me that doing it like : l[document.getElementById("time").innerHTML] gives me some value while using time variable just undefined, no matter it's same value Next problem I would want my text appear somehow like this when time is 3.0:
Quote:
ABCDFH
I can already guess that would be alot of code to make it interactive but any ideas, or leads where i should start, because that is my first time giving some more attention to JS.
I have declared a javascript array:
Code:
var strUsersName = new Array("John","Mac","George");
I want to check, if the particular loggedin user for example Mac is available in the array list declared.How to check in a efficient way, if the particular user loggedin is available within the array declared.I tried this, but I am not sure, if it is correct:
Code:
var strUsersName = new Array("John","Mac","George");
var L=strUsersName.length;

i have tried searching the forums but really am getting no where. i am trying to call an array item from an input box. the input is all numbers. the arrays are v + numbers.i cannot seem to figure out how to get the item from the array.eg
var v00501 = ["HOLTSVILLE,I R S SERVICE CENTER","NY","631","-5","Y"]
var v00544 = ["HOLTSVILLE,IRS SERVICE CENTER","NY","631","-5","Y"]
var v00601 = ["ADJUNTAS,JARD DE ADJUNTAS,URB SAN JOAQUIN","PR","787/939","-4","N"]
[code].....
I'm a little puzzled over the possibility of accessing an array. I've declared the previd id - in the proxy.invoke call which works just fine (we have already implemented an .each loop which also works. My problem is this - after accessing the proxy.invoke function, the previd is populated correctly with push but after the call, we cannot seem to access the previd array to make a join to a string. Here's the basics of the code.
var previd = [];
proxy.invoke("validdateIDCard", p_caregiverid,
function(validaterID) {
var valcard = validateID;
previd.push(valcard);
}, onPageError);
var finalvalue = previd.join("|"); <-- this is where the problem lies - cannot seem to read the variable...
i have a php page in which i have a listbox as below:
<select NAME="scopeid[]" id="scopeid[]" class=sel1 multiple size=4>
<? while ($qrrs=mysql_fetch_assoc($qrrid)) { ?>
<option value="<?=$qrrs['scopeid']?>" <? if($db->isinarray($scopeid,$qrrs['scopeid']) ){ print " selected "; } ?>><?=$qrrs['scopedescription']?></option>
<? } ?>
</select>
<input type="button" name="add" value="Add" class=button onclick="Add()" style="width:40">
how do i pass the values of listbox[] to javascript?
below is my javascript:
function Add() {
Obj=(document.getElementById("scopeid[]"));
alert(Obj.value);
}
alert gives me only the last selected value and not the entire values. i.e if the user has selected 2 ,3 and 4th option, it gives me value of only 4th item instead of all three. how to do it?
