Accessing CSS Properties - Resize The Height Of A Div On A Web Page

Aug 6, 2010

I have developped a script in order to resize the height of a div on a web page in order to display it at least up to the size of the window.

Here is the code:

It works well, but I was wondering why I am not able to get the padding-top and -bottom using these two instructions:

The script runs but Firebug shows empty strings for both values. How come? Is there a bug in Firefox?

JQuery :: Page Breaks When Resize - Body Height?

Dec 11, 2010

I've got a page [URL]... where I have to use a jquery function to stretch the body to the user's window height if it isn't already.

In the same code I also use a condition that if the body is bigger than the user's window, the content has a padding to stop it going over the grass.

The reason I need to do the resize is because I have a background image that needs to sit at the very bottom of the page (with no bar or gap below it). The reason the padding can only exist when the body is bigger than the window is because it will put a scrollbar on pages that shouldn't have them.

It works great, but the only trouble is that if somebody decides to resize their window on a page that fits in it - it breaks.

Accessing Object's Internal Properties?

Mar 31, 2011

I am fairly familiar with the concept of Objects and their properties and methods, but javascript being object based as opposed to object oriented has me stumped on how to access an object's properties from an onclick event handler created for another object created within the original object.In the example below, I have a constructor function called anyObj. to which I pass an object reference to an element.

anyObj has 3 properties and one function increaseWidth()

increaseWidth() creates a new button with an onclick event handler and this is where I have a problem.The onclick function needs to increase the value of anyObj's this.width property. I originally had a line this.width += 10; in the onclick but quickly realised why this wasn't working because the this in the onclick function refers to the new button object and not the this.width property of anyObj.

The workaround I have used, and it works, is to make a copy of all the this.xxxxx properties. eg. width = this.width; and use the width variable in the onclick as you can see below. This "workaround" works fine but doesn't feel ideal to me.So, what I am asking advice on is, is there a better way to access the anyObj()'s properties from within the onclick function than the way I have done it? Obviously I would prefer to not have to make copies of all the anyObj() properties like I have to make them accessible to the onclick function.

Code:

function anyObj(divObj){
this.elem = divObj;
this.width = 50;

[code]....

Accessing Form Element Properties Using Onchange?

Jul 5, 2006

I have 1 form, and dozens of elements. In the select elements I use onchange="somefunc()". In this function I'd like to access and change the form element attributes (such as form.element.option[].value and form.element.option[].innerHTML).

Is there a way to access the element that has just changed (unsing onchange="somefunc()") by passing a "this.element" parameter to access the elements properties such as form.element.option[].value within the function?

Accessing Element Properties After Setting InnerHTML?

Mar 21, 2010

I am dynamically building a part of my HTML page by setting the innerHTML of a DIV element. Immediately after I do that I try to retrieve the clientHeight and clientWidth of the DIV element in order to determine what height and width the element actually ended up being. But I always get 0 as both the height and width. The contents of the DIV, i.e. the HTML code that I inserted into it via the innerHTML, does indeed get displayed on the page. But I suspect that the browser doesn't actually update the page until AFTER my JavaScript code has completed and "returns control" to the browser.

Does that make sense? Is there any way I can force the browser to update the page BEFORE my code completes its processing, so that I can properly retrieve the width and height of the element I just inserted into the page?

JQuery :: Accessing Methods And Properties On An Object Of A Passed Element?

Jan 25, 2010

I have an object on the document element that allows for other components to register with it, i have a custom event something along$(document).bind("register",function(thechild)..So in the child object when they are created i call$(document).trigger("register",this);And indeed i get the DOM object. However i'm looking for the plug in object, i want to be able to call methods on the passed childobject and access it's Config.Does that make sense? How can i write a plug in that is applied to various objects that also registers itself with an 'overseer' object on the document element in such a way that i can allow that overseer object to call methods on any registered child objects?

Window And Scroll Properties (Width / Height)

Feb 3, 2009

Is this correct?
window.pageXOffset/pageYOffset = how much page has scrolled in standards compliant browsers
window.innerWidth, window.innerHeight = viewport in standards compliant browsers

What browser supports these properties?
document.documentElement.scrollWidth
document.documentElement.scrollHeight
document.documentElement.scrollLeft
document.documentElement.scrollTop
document.documentElement.clientWidth
document.documentElement.clientHeight

And does document.documentElement.scrollWidth and document.documentElement.scrollLeft return the same value?

Ajax :: Resize Div Height After Update

Mar 12, 2011

I have a div which contains dynamic content populated with AJAX (user has two select boxes to filter query results)However when filtered results extend past the initial height of the div in question, the div remains the same size and the results overflow out of my content area.I added a surrounding div with id of "limit" around the div that needs to grow and shrink ("resultsdiv"), but this didn't work; it ended up cutting off search results instead of growing the div (I also added position: relative; and overflow: hidden to my stylesheet, as suggested on the jquery website).

The animation is not important, this would work fine with .css({...}), but I thought it would be cool.At any rate, if this is supposed to work, my first question is: WHERE do I put this script? I've placed it outside of the query and outside of both divs (no luck). I've put it IN the div/query loop, but no go. I've even (just for kicks) put it in my ajax query file, but nothing.

Auto-resize An Iframe - Height Is Not Automatically Resizing?

Aug 4, 2010

I have a mysql database with a bunch of quotations in it. I created a blog at http:[url]....At the top of the blog is an iframe window that directs to http:[url]....On that page it uses php to pull out a random quote from the database. The iframe window displays that quote onto the blog.It works great except that the height is not automatically resizing.Is there a way I can use javascript to do this instead? Here is some pseudo-code of what I'd like to be able to do: (p.s. I do not know javascript or much of anything so I am looking for people to tell me how to ACTUALLY do this)

var stringvariable = http://aro2220.com/blog/index.html;

int stringlength = stringlength(stringvariable);

int autosize = 200 + stringlength * 5;

<iframe width="100%" frameborder="0" src="http://aro2220.com/blog" height=$autosize scrolling="no"></iframe>

Resize Image To Window Height When Called From Link?

Dec 29, 2009

Can I get Images to resize to window height when called from an 'a' link created in a cell of 'insertRow'.

Something like this
Code:
var additemlink=top.frames['register'].document.createElement('a');
additemlink.setAttribute('id','itemlink'+count);
additemlink.setAttribute('href','zanfeld/p'+code+'.jpg');
additemlink.setAttribute('target','display');
additemlink.setAttribute('title','Review this item then click your back button to return');
additemlink.className='itemlink';
additemlink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(item));
additemlink.onclick=function(){resize(this, 100, 100);};
additem.appendChild(additemlink);

I've seen a lot of inline scripting for this but no dynamic unobtrusive 'resize' image examples are to be found.

100% Width & Height For Div Even With Window Resize - Shadow/scrollbar?

Jan 8, 2011

I'm trying to build a background in two parts. The header bg is in the body and the lower part is a div with a gradient background color generated by CSS3 or IE filters. I had problems with getting the gradient to stretch all the way to the side in IE7 with plain CSS so I had to start looking for more watertight solutions.

[Code]...

If there are easier methods to solve this split background thing than JavaScript, I'm all ears. I can PM the address of the website, if someone wants to take a look.

The links within the Iframe load the new content but I have to access the parent document to be able to resize the IFrame height. How I can resize the iframe from within javascript in the IFrame.

JQuery :: Auto-resize All Div Height To Fit Text The The Largest Text?

I currently have multiple combos ofimage with a description text below it.I want to lay them out inrowsand inline. So if the width of page is not enough the next one should startbeginning of next row. Each image and text is currently house by a div with float left and a set width, but if you look at the attached screenshot (1.jpg), The Oracle - eBusiness Suite gets stuck because of the differentsheight due to text size and if I set a height too, then some of the text gets covered up (2.jpg). I was thinking if I can maybe use J Query to automatically adjust height to divs on the same rowto fit the biggest text size on that row?Evenjust changing all divs to that heightbe would be ok if it'seasier.
