JQuery :: Reinitialize Or Rebind A Plugin?

Sep 21, 2011

I'm using a third party jQuery plugin that displays tooltips. The plugin is in a minimized file and it's referenced at the top of my page -- within HEAD. After I update the contents of a DIV using an Ajax call, the returned HTML is displayed as if it's HTML encoded -- but it's not i.e. I can see the <span class="tooltip"> as opposed to it being treated as HTML and getting rendered properly by the browser.

One of the possibilities why this may be happening -- I thought -- was that I need to re-bind or reinitialize the plugin but not sure how to do it. First, it's minified and it's kind of hard to make sense of the code. Secondly, when I open up the regular jQuery file, I see that a whole bunch of function calls are placed in $(document).ready.

My jQuery skills are very basic and I'm not sure: If I could have more than one $(document).ready.I already have one on the actual page. Looks like the second one is in the plugin file. I also don't know how to re-initialize this plug-in after my Ajax call.

JQuery :: Live() Event Doesn't Refresh The Class Of The Event Which Was Changed Dynamically

Jul 4, 2009

I got this problem with live() event.I have used it as follows.

$(".addressDiv span").live("mouseover", function(){
//clickable function here......
------------------------
});

I have used the live() event to trigger the function on mouseover in the dynamically added elements. But the problem i got is that once the live event is called it takes the class of the element and stores. And when the class of that particular element is changed dynamically the live() event does not detect the new classed added dynamically, instead it takes the former class. Live() event does not update the class.

JQuery :: Get Class Properties In Event Handler (in OOP)

i'm looking for the best way to use global properties that defined at class level insid event handler functions.

for example :
function MyClass() {
this.v1 = "hello";
this.v2 = {name: 'joe', age:'30'};
this.link1 = $("<a/>", {id: "link1"});

[Code].....

actually, in link1Handler 'this' returns to link1 not to main class. so how to get class properties or functions inside the private functions of the same class?

JQuery :: Click Event On Nested Elements With Same Class?

Mar 1, 2011

I am making a system whereby if an element has a class "editable", you can click it and a popup box appears with some options about that particular element. Fairly straightforward, I'm using [code]...

This works fine but I need to be able to have lots of different divs, all with class "editable", some of which are inside others with class "editable". Like this [code]...

However, clicking on the 'somethingelse' div, triggers the click correctly but also triggers it for the parent 'something' div, so I end up with the popup box appearing twice.

Does anyone know how to just catch a click event on the exact div (without using ids) without triggering the parent?

Possible To Change Class With OnMouse Event?

Nov 14, 2002

Whit a mouseover event it's easy to change css properties:

onMouseOver="menu_1.style.background='#7e7ea2'"
onMouseOut="menu_1.style.background='#2f2f3f'"

But what I'd really like to do is to change the class:

onMouseOver="menu_1.something.to.set.class='menu_mousover'"
onMouseOut="menu_1.something.to.set.class='menu_off'"

That way I could control the look of the mouseover event from within a linked stylesheet which just seems like a practical thing to do .

Accessing The Class From Event Trigger

Feb 13, 2009

Bit of a problem I've not been able to solve after a couple hours. I'm new to Javascript classes and objects and really a Perl programmer so this has been giving me a headache. I've attached the code below but in a nutshell I have an object that writes code to a div upon instantiation and attaches events to several controls. When the event fires it runs a function attached to the class via prototype.

Problem is, the "this" obj from this event now refers to the control (e.g button) so there is no way to get back to the class. If you look at " alert(this);" line this should output the Class object, instead it refers to the button

JQuery :: Events/live And Default - Method To Bind A Handler To A Click-event For All Links With Class "userDiv"

Jun 10, 2009

I use the live - method to bind a handler to a click-event for all links with class "userDiv"

When I DON'T use this and use instead the "normal" click handler

I can still use the middle Mouse-Button in Firefox to open the link in a new tab without any jquery-stuff

But when I use the live-method (and it would be nice to use it) the middle Mouse-Button behaves like the left one.

JQuery :: Assigning A Click To A Class Selector - Once Clicked The Class Is Removed - Does This Work

May 5, 2011

I have a huge blob of code but the main part I am focusing on is this

$('.billboard_click').click(function () {
//this remove class
$(".billboard_click").removeClass("billboard_click");
});

1. Execute a click event when the div with the class 'billboard_click' is clicked

2. Once clicked, remove the class from that very div to avoid another click from happening

3. Execute a series of events such as animations, etc

4. add the class back to the clicker div

The code does not seem to work as expected but I am wondering if I am having issues elsewhere at this point and wonder if this actually is known to work

JQuery :: Selector Speed - Class Only Versus Tag With Class

Mar 9, 2011

I'm trying to figure out which selector is faster (assuming that the class 'foo' only appears on input tags)...

$('.foo');
or
$('input.foo');

From what I've seen online, it seems that people recommend $('input.foo'), but in some limited testing it appears that $('.foo') is much faster in both FF and Chrome. In IE, both methods seem to produce similar results. Here is a fiddle with a simple example...

[URL]

Have browsers started implementing native ways to find all elements with a given class name? Would that explain why $('.foo') seems to be faster?

JQuery :: Turn On An 'inactive-state' CSS Class For A Group Of Divs, Then Reset One Div To The 'active-state' Class?

Feb 2, 2011

I am attempting to make a menu that has a background image that changeswhen you rollover or click a menuitem. I've got the hover effect working fine with CSS, but am trying to implement the click event via jquery with the following:

CSS:
div.SustainResourcesMenuTabs
{ background-image: url('/images/departments/commdev/sustainability/menu_tab.jpg');
}[code]....

My process is to reset the entire menu to the inactive state, then switch on the active state for the item that was clicked. Eventually, the item that was clicked will display its corresponding body section as well. I've tried using the CSS pseudo-class "active", but since the entire div is the link, that is unavailable. I've also tried multiple variations of addClass/removeClass, toggleClass, and setAttribute/removeAttributebut nothing hasworked so far.

Accessing Class Member Using This Inside An Anonymous Function Call In A Class Method?

Mar 28, 2010

I'm using jquery to make it easy for AJAX calls.

So I create a class: function cMap(mapID){//vars and stuff}

I go and prototype a function: cMap.prototype.loadMap = function(){ //jquery AJAX call }

Now in the jquery $.ajax({...}); call, I use an anonymous function on the "success:" call: success: function(data){ this.member = data; }

My problem is that inside this anonymous function call I'm trying to call a class member of my cMap class to store the data in from the AJAX call, but it's out of scope. So the JS console in FF/Chrome throws errors about bad value/doesn't exist.

How can I access this class member from inside an anonymous function? Or at least what's a good way to go about doing all this?

Override Onmouseover In A Class, Now I Can't Get My Class Attributes.

Sep 15, 2006

I'm currently working with Javascript to build some "dynamic" tabs. Basicly, the tab "onmouseover" and "onmouseout" event have been overriden to change the tab's css class.

Here's the class:

function HtmlTab(id)
{
this.id = id;
this.tab = document.getElementById(id);
this.cssover = "over";
this.cssout = "out";

this.tab.onmouseover = function()
{

this.className = this.cssover; // NOT WORKING
}
this.tab.onmouseout = function()
{
this.className = "gen";
}
}
My problem is, I cannot access my HtmlTab class attributes from the this.tab.onmouseover function.

Anyone knows a way to fix this?

JQuery :: Event.stopPropagation() Is Preventing A Live Event On A Child Element

Jul 6, 2009

As far as I understood, stopPropagation() is supposed to stop events bubbling 'up' though the element tree (through parent elements). Eg. If I use stopPropagation() on a click event on an anchor element in a list, the event would not be triggered on the list. In my code I have a popup div, that needs to have stopPropagation(), as a click on the document (everywhere other than the popup) will hide it. When I add an element to the popup that has a live click event, the live click event is never called, even though it is a child element of the popup. Shouldn't the live click get called first? If I remove the stopPropagation all is well.. some code:

$('#a_test_link').live("click", function(e){
e.preventDefault();
alert('done!');
});

[Code].....
