JQuery :: Detect If A Named Window Is Already Open And Change Focus To It?

Jul 5, 2011

I'm relatively new to jQ and would like to determine if a named window is already open. If it is then I want to change focus to that window/tab. The scenario is this. I have a link in App1 that opens a new window to an already existing linked (related) web form in App2. If the user forgets they have that window open in App2 and clicks the same link in App1 as before (to open the related form in App2,) it opens a window that is not the same window as the original window. I need App1 to detect if a window already exists in the browser of the same name and if so, change the browser focus to it.

Child Pop Up Race Condition Using Window.open Need To Detect Window.onload

Nov 22, 2011

I am trying to pop up a window and then do stuff(set flags) when the content of the new window is done loading. For this I am trying to detect the window.onload of the pop-up child window but so far I am unsuccessful. I believe my problem is that the URL of child window is on different domain, than the one of the opener(parent) so that the window.onload is not being called. Though this may change, at the moment I do not have access to the code for the page I'm opening up in the pop-up. Im pretty new to web development.

Window.open And Focus

Mar 10, 2006

if anyone is still curious about this recently posted issue creating error 'member not found'

function imageWindow(whichImage)
{
imageWindow = window.open(whichImage,
'myWindow','width=450,height=200')
imageWindow.focus()
}

I was experiencing the same problem and determined that the error was experienced when loading a pdf file. in the above case the user appears to be loading an image. The problem does not occur when simply loading html files.

Window.open Changes Focus In Safari?

Mar 24, 2011

I use a cookie to keep track of a particular window (using window.name), lets call this the main window. I use the window to distribute data returned from the server.

I use window.open("",mainWindowName) to get the reference to the main window object.

The problem is in nearly all browsers this works fine (focus stays on the current window), however in Safari, window.open also sets focus to that window (mainWindowName).

Of course I can reset focus back to the current window in Safari, but there is a quick flash of windows focus changing and it doesn't look good.

Using JS To Detect Window Width And Change Css

Mar 20, 2011

I know 800x600 screens occupy a shrinking part of Web surfers, but I want to accommodate them by offering an alternate style sheet where my site pages don't break when someone from this smaller group visits. Yes, there are examples of how to do this on the Web, but I have one more requirement and don't know how to code it. Not only do my pages break on 800x600, they also break if the browser widow is sized smaller on a 1024x768 screen. (I'm studying css that will dynamically respond to this but I'm not there yet.) Do I just need an appropriate if/or statement to deliver different style sheets? Is there even a JS that detects browser window changes?

document.all(i).style.cursor="wait";

// some long process here !!

for(var i=0;i<document.all.length;i++)

How Detect A Tab Getting Focus

Sep 30, 2010

How can I do something like "browserTab.onfocus = myFunction" by which I mean that "myFunction" would get control any time something in it's browser tab gains focus? E.g., when the user switches from a different browser tab or a non-browser window. I don't need to know what got focus, just that something did in that tab. "window.onfocus = myFunction" with event capturing works fine except when the main window contains frames. Doing document.getElementById('iframeId').contentWindow.addEventListener('focus',myFunction,true) to add an onfocus handler to the iframe's document works in Firefox except when the frame's content comes from another site, which is my case and I cannot modify that site. I'd rather not poll using document.hasFocus().

Named Window Handle

Jul 23, 2005

I use a subroutine to popup windows in my sebsite. It looks like this :

function poplink(filename)
{
filestring = filename + "htm"
LinkWindow = window.open(filestring,'LinkWindow','');
}

Filename is just the extensionless web page name e.g. "Addresses"

Problem is of course every window popped up will replace the previously
popped up window and in the case of a popped up window popping up a window
the new window will just replace the calling window.

(Please, no lectures on popping up windows, I need to in my particular case
and here I'm just stripping it down to the bare problem for claritie and
simplicities s sake)

I'd be happy if I could create a new window handle each time so that all my
popup windows will be unique. If it could be the filename that would be fine
e.g. instead of the window handle variable being "LinkWindow" it would be
"Addresses". Is there some way of making the variable I assign the new
window to a variable? All I can come up with is somehow having LinkWindow an
array of window handles and just keep incrementing it e.g.

LinkWindow[100]; // 100 is more than enough windows for a typical session
LinkWindowCount = 0;

function poplink(filename)
{
filestring = filename + "htm"
LinkWindow[LinkWindowCount] = window.open(filestring,'LinkWindow','');
if (LinkWindowCount < 99)
LinkWindowCount++;
else
LinkWindowCount = 0;
}

What would be the correct syntax for creating LinkWindow as an array or is
there a better way of accomplishing the same thing?

JQuery :: Detect Browser (ie - IE6-7) And Open A Display Message

Jun 8, 2011

Is there any jquery script that would detect a browser. What I exactly mean is when a visitor opens a website, the script detects the browser and if it's IE6-7, the message to upgrade/change the browser is displayed. It'd be nice if the rest of the screen got blurred, as it is in some jquery photo galleries.

I am trying to use jquery to set the css, but one part if failing. This is the original css :
