JQuery :: Animate() & Google Chrome - Call Goes To The Element Which Lost The Focus, With An Opacity Value Of 0.2?
Mar 18, 2010
I recently wrote some code, which involves a list. Elements can be picked by up/down arrow keys.To highlight the elements, I'm using a similar call to objects[focus]stop (true,true).animate({'opacity': 1}, 200);(As you can see, all DOM elements are cached)the same call goes to the element which lost the focus, with an opacity value of 0.2.Whatsoever, I noticed on testing that the performance is just fine on firefox 2/3, IE 7/8, even Safari has good results.Only exception so far is Chrome, it's terribly slow on those calls with a CPU load of 40-50%.I didn't further investigate that behavior since it still works "OK" on Chrome, but SIGNIFICANT slower.

I'm a newbie to jquery and am using jquery version 1.4.2 in my java application. I am trying to develop an application, where I am accessing the data available in a remote server and rendering the data in an HTML page in my local system, using an Ajax call. The code works fine in IE7 and above. However, I am facing a problem in Firefox ( version 3.5.8) and google Chrome. The following error is reported in Firefox [code]
While searching in google on this error, I have found that this occurs because Firefox's security model does not allow retrieving/accessing localhost resources.Also Firefox does not allow accessing resources from other domains.The following are the source code of the html and js files [code]Is there anything that I am missing? Or, is there any other way for carrying out this functionality?

I'm currently using the following code to animate three boxes on page load:
Code:
function animateVideo(){$('.video').animate({opacity:1.0,top:"-=50px"},500,"swing");}
function animateProduct(){$('.product').animate({opacity:1.0,top:"-=50px"},500,"swing");}
function animateMap(){$('.map').animate({opacity:1.0,top:"-=50px"},500,"swing");}
[Code]...
I've been told i can use the jQuery effect fadeTo() which will work, however i'm not sure how to adapt my animate() code to use the fadeTo() function at the same time as moving.

IE6 is reporting an error for this line:
Code:
$('#receptioncontent').animate({opacity: 'toggle', height: 'toggle'}, 'fast');
The error is:
"Unexpected call to method or property access."
It's strange because (I think) everything on the page works correctly - so I don't understand the error. If I uncomment the line above there are no errors.
jQuery version is 1.3.2 I'm testing in IE6 on Windows XP SP3. How can I stop this error from being reported?

I have 2 divs on a page, the outer div has an inner div nested within it, both have different background images set to them. I managed to program the following fine:
$(function(){
$("div.outer").hover(
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({"opacity": "0"}, "slow");
},
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({"opacity": "1"}, "slow");
});
});
So that when you hover over the div, the inner div with the background image fades in, and then out on rollout. Why will the following code not slide the inner div up and down:
$(function() {
$("div.outer").hover(
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({top:"-200px"},{queue:false,duration:200});
},
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({top:"0px"},{queue:false,duration:200});
});
});
I am using jQuery 1.5 min.

Ok so I have a site that I want to automatically close the window when the focus is lost from the page. For example, if the user clicks off the page to something else on there desktop I want the page to close. So far I have managed to do this but the grids on my page and the scroll bars all trigger the close function when clicked on. Is there anyway to make the scroll bars and drop down boxes not trigger the function?
This is the line of code that I have.

I am in the process of creating an ajax like upload control (like the one described here: [URL].. I have ran into an unexpected problem that I can't seem to find a solution to. Javascript is not my favoured tech, and maybe there is something fundamental about this that I don't understand. could point out what I'm doing wrong:
I am using setTimeout to basically show a dummy progress bar (by manipulating backcolour of td elements). I start the process like this:

I'm using Firefox 3.5.5 on Vista 32 Home Premium SP2 and only recently noticed that (javascript/jquery being enabled) link focus is lost when you tab through a page, follow the link to another page and then hit the backspace key to come back. Tab navigation continues at top of page, not with the next link after the one in focus before.
No problems in this respect with IE8 and Opera. As soon as you disable javascript with noscript, the problem disappears and link focus stays, so that tabbing brings on the next link instead of starting on top of page again.
Just confirmed it on jquery/com (following navigation link to Plugins and hitting backspace) and on learningjquery/com (navigation links). A Google search didn't yield any answers nor even any similar reports on this particular problem.
It's even more irksome in my particular case, since I have just implemented a stylesheet switcher in order to enhance certain accessibility aspects, but ironically this particular bug leads to a loss of accessibility.
Does anybody know what might be the reason (version 1.3.2.min related?, cookies related?, etc.) for this and how to solve it?

I've been trying to implement a smooth scrolling animation in my page, which works fine in firefox and IE8 (haven't tested any older versions yet). But doesn't seem to work in google chrome (and probably safari either I guess). I have 4 divs on my page, positioned absolutely 2 by 2, only one div should be visible at a time, so the body has gotten an overflow:hidden. When an anchor-link to one of those divs is clicked the javascript gets its position,then scrolls towards it. etting the position works, but the scrolling does not work in chrome.
Now, when I remove 'overflow: hidden' from the body element, the scrolling does work in chrome, but of course adds the scrollbars which I don't want.

I send some data by post from page to PHP script. In FF it works fine, but Google Chrome fall down...
var category = 'category_name';
$.post('../ajax.php', { 'ajax': 1,
'active': 1,
'category': category,
'id': id}, function(out) {
alert ('echo');
});
I tried the same code without apostrophes, but with no effect.

I found error... In POST variables passed to ajax.php I had 'content': content and content is probably jQuery reserved word (and this variable wasn´t define before). But I don´t know why that works in FF.

I am using a jQuery Slideshow on a website homepage that I am helping to develop.
The homepage can be seen here: [URL].. This site is currently in production and I am trying to make some improvements at the moment. But I cannot understand why the slideshow isn't behaving correctly in Chrome. I'll tell you what it is supposed to do.
1) Page loads... slideshow begins to loop through 4 slides, each linking to an article on the website.2) When you click on a thumbnail on the right of the slideshow, it should bring that slide into focus - You can then click on the "Read More" link in the description at the bottom of the main photo to go to that article.
Now here is what it is actually doing. 1) Page loads - slideshow begins to loop through the 4 slides, this is working.2) Click on a thumbnail and it does focus on that slide but it only brings up the image... the section containing the information/description and the link to the article is missing.3) The slideshow then continues to loop through the slides as usual but each time it comes to the slide you previously brought into focus, the information at the bottom is missing.
I have checked in other browsers and this does not appear to be happening. I have also checked in earlier versions of Chrome and this did not happen - It is only happening with the latest version of Chrome.

Here is the code snippet. the var url is undefined in some browsers.
$.ajax({
url: "rss.php",
cache: false,
success: function(rss){
[Code].....
This works fine in IE and Firefox. But Google Chrome and Safari fails.
Using an rss plugin produces the same error, so it seems to be with jQuery.

This is irritating cause i read a arcticle with a solution to this in one of the many newsletters i receive, but then i didn't need it and now i do i can't find it, and i'm searching for days now .
I have say 3 links
link1 --- link2 --- link3
all of then formatted nicelly with CSS. When i select one of then, say link1, it becames with a diferent background color.
What i want is to keep tha backg color even when the user clicks anywhere on the page (thus loosing focus) and until another link is clicked.
I tought this could be possible in a CSS only way, but now i think i have to use some Javascript.

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. How can I change it to cycle focus to the actual first and last elements? Here is a live link to my form: [URL]. Here is my script:
$(document).ready(function() {
var options = {
target: '#c_main',
success: setFocus
