Child Window Close Event - Opening Another Link In A Separate Window Using Window.open()
Jan 29, 2010
I have a HTML and I am opening another link in a separate window using window.open() . The child window is something like 'http://yahoo.com' which is out side html. I need to refresh the parent window when the child window is closed.
I need a script that will open a new window (popup / new link) in a specific size, but will also close the old window (where the popup came from). I know the popup window is easy but finding a work-able close window script as the new window is opened is impossible!!
I am trying to pop up a window and then do stuff(set flags) when the content of the new window is done loading. For this I am trying to detect the window.onload of the pop-up child window but so far I am unsuccessful. I believe my problem is that the URL of child window is on different domain, than the one of the opener(parent) so that the window.onload is not being called. Though this may change, at the moment I do not have access to the code for the page I'm opening up in the pop-up. Im pretty new to web development.
I have parent page with 10 child window and i want to close all child window when click on close session button on parent but first i need to check whether any child window open or not after that action should be done for close the child window.
I have a page with 3 iframes it has a link to open up a page and when the user clicks on a link on that page - I want the new page to close and the link to open in the second iframe on the original page
I have a site where one of the links I have set up to open a pop up window which will display Terms & Agreement information, at the bottom there is a check box and a submit button for users to click on if they agree to the terms. I was able to get that working but the thing is when the user clicks in the check box and hits submit I want them to be directed to a page which has a form on it but I wanted the page to open in the original (Parent) window. This is where I am lost cause I found some coding which will open the page with the form in the pop up window but Ideally once they agree to terms and hit submit I'd like the pop up window to disappear and the new page open in the Parent window... is this possible below is the coding I'm using.
Here is the form:
<form method="get" action="this is where my link will go" onsubmit="return yes_no(this.form) " name="Agree"> <INPUT name="agree" name="agree" value="agree" type="checkbox"> I agree to terms <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Accept Terms">
code to make this button work? In the parent window when 2 is input in the textbox and 'OK' button clicked, the second window opens with 2 textbox and 'SUBMIT' button. If 'SUBMIT' button is clicked in the child window i want it to open the new window.
Observations: Error Msg: "progress is undefined". I have observed that after form submission the 'if' statement in the 'close child window' code fails because the handle 'progress' appears to have no value. My guess is that on form submission the handle 'progress' looses its' value because the action for the form is to reload itself. The 'if' staement does execute because I have placed an 'alert' statement just prior to it an the 'alert' executed appropriately.
If I try to open the window after submitting the form, the page doesn't open until after the file has been uploaded, which defeats the purpose.
Question: How do I close the window after the form has been submitted?
Thanks for your help! Irvin. ________________

I am facing problem while closing the child window in Mozilla Browser. Actually i am using window.close() in order to close the child winow . Its working fine with IE but its not working for Mozilla browser.
This works fine in all browsers with Acrobat Reader 7. the problem is it's not working with IE and Adobe Reader v6.x (however the pdf can be read by v6.x if you open it manually)
when you click the link in IE, it says "This type of file could harm your computer if it contains malicious code" and it wants you to open/save/cancel. If you hit open, it says file not found. Now I can get around this by using target="_blank", but then it gets blocked by the popup blocker.
code to show ( overlay / modal window ) to the user when closing or navigating away from the page ( i want put in this window facebook share to make the user to share the page in his facebook ) , bytheway i wanna use it in my wordpress in every post could it be happen ?
I am encountering a problem where I have a window and there are three frames, one in the left, right and in the bottom. The bottom most frame has common submit buttons. There are several tabs in left frame. Each one loads a different form on the right frame. After fetching the contents of the form from user, I am validating the text fields in the form using onChange() event handler. After entering the text value in the textbox, if I press Submit directly, the "Submit" as well as the validation routine happens concurrently. Only at the end of validation, the field is marked as dirty. Now, if field is not marked dirty, the Submit function will close the window without actually submitting as nothing was changed. So when an invalid value is entered and the Submit is pressed directly, an alert pops up temporarily but the close() call from the parent frame immediately closes the alert window before user can respond. This problem does not occur in IE as in IE, unless the alert window is responded, the close() call cannot close the alert window. Code:
I have a button called LOOKUP, which when clicked calls a client side function that increments the nLookUp by 1 and then should open the target URL in new window. How can i accomplist this from cllient side scripting?
