Adding To Search Area (onfocus) Dissappear?
Oct 19, 2010
<input class="search" type="text" value="TEXT YOU WANT" onfocus="if(this.value=='TEXT YOU WANT'){this.value='';} this.className=this.className.replace('defaultText', '');" name="search" />
This works well in all of my applications and does not depreciate in multiple browsers. It is only the search type input, you can include this in any form area to see how it works and set your custom parameters.Upon focusing on the form (E.g. entering text) the "TEXT YOU WANT" will disappear.

I have a text area to enter a search, and I have already written the JavaScript part of it (unsure if this is where the problem lies). The text that will go into the text area is a URL. the search button is disabled if there are spaces in the query, or if the field is blank, else the button is enabled. The problem I'm having may or may not be to do with my script. The HTML is set to 'onKeyUp' and 'onBlur' to run the function. now, it works fine, unless the user uses the mouse to copy and paste a URL into the text area. the button remains disabled until the user focuses out of the text area then back in. if ctrl+v is used, then the function works.

I am currently working on a website with a custom livesearch. The livesearch is a simple <ul> under the input box. I am trying to make it so that if the user click anywhere other than the input box(id=searchInput) or the list(id=searchResults). I tried an onblur on the input box, but when the user clicks on the list it vanishes, which defeats the object

adding a parenthesis in the area code of the phone number and validating it also. I made some javascript code but it is not working. I just need the code in adding () in the area code.
For example: When user enter 10 digit number no spaces or dashes such as 0000000000 or 000-000-0000, I would like to have this format right away (000)000-0000. I know how to replace the characters but adding it is a tricky one for me.

I'm trying to add an internal site search to my website, and it only work for some search items, not for everything. For example, if I search for Bud Light, Budweiser, Bud Light Lime, it finds them. But if I search for Stella Artois, Paulaner, or Hoegaarden, it doesn't find anything. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the javascript code, I'm just not sure how to fix it.Here's the code in the head region:

The next time I start typing 'Att' my browsers saved search field pops up over the websites smart search. Here is an image which might help explain the problem a bit more:

Here is the layout of my form from left to right, from top to down.
- buttonA, buttonB, buttonC
- textbox, textbox, textbox
- buttonXXX
After the user types in the textboxes and press enter (with the cursor still
in one of the textboxes), buttonXXX should be pressed by default.(the user
is too lazy to take the cursor over to buttonXXX and click).
The problem is the top/left most button (button A) gets pressed which annoys
them to death. So I tried to do this.
In the bottonA's onfocus event handle-
document.forms[0].elements['buttonXXX'].focus() .
Result: ButtonXXX receives focus alright, but the code for buttonA still
executes!

I'm fairly new to this and my code is as follows...
<script language="JavaScript>
var oldValue
function focusElement(theElement) {
oldValue = theElement.value;
return;
}
</script>
Then in the HTML, I have
<select size="1" id="ConfCommentSELECT" name="ConfCommentSELECT"
onfocus="return focusPrecedence(this);">
<option value="0"> - </option>
<option value="1">1</option>
<option value="2">2</option>
</select>
The <select> is with a <form><tr><td>, but I don't see how that would make a
difference. I started using the onchange="return blah-blah-blah(this);" and
that worked so I copied that to the onfocus. What I want to do is to
remember the value of the contents of the <select> before the user changes
it, and compare it to the new value.

I have a website that I'm designing where I have the need to search multiple sites at specific times. By this I mean that In some cases, we would want to search only the internet using google, or only search the site that I've created (which currently uses the jse_search.js solution), or only our company's website.
I currently have four different search boxes that will search either the internet, the internal site, a separate internal site, or a third-party website, which all working fine. The problem is that the search boxes take up quite a bit of space, and the layout is becoming cumbersome. Is there a way in Javascript I could use a single search box and a drop-down list to select which method to use? The code I'm currently using is below. With the exception of the Google search function, I've modified some of the site names to general site names and paths to preserve the company's anonymity:
Code in the <head> tag:
<script language="JavaScript1.3" type="text/javascript" src="jse_form.js">
</script>
Code in the <body> tag:
<!--Begin Internal Site Search 1!-->

All he has to do is use the Tab-key or key-combinations to jump to specific

My question is: is it possible to change color of the hyperlink when a
hyperlink get the focus. I do not only want to see the dotted line, I want the hyperlink to lighten up.

I've got a default value of some text in an input element when a page loads.
What I'd like to do is have the value disappear when the user clicks in the
input field.
I've figured out I can use:
onclick="this.value=''"
This works fine, however if for some reason the user adds his own input,
then click somewhere else/clicks back, the text has once again been erased.
So I thought of a function like the following, however it does not work:
function removeinput(x) {
if (x == 'Enter items not on standard list here...') {
x = ''
}
}
onclick="removeinput(this.value);"
I've also tried placing this.value inside of single quotes to no avail.
