I have some JavaScript which is splitting out the different variable elements from the URL.Now, how do I set the internal variables?Then I want to set the variable ScriptHeading to be Change and the variable ScriptType to be NewThread.I keep finding all sorts of lovely code showing how to split out the various sections in many different ways, but I can't find anything on how to actually set these variables.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen at the root of a site, without specifying a filename, a usual default of index.html (or even .htm) is loaded; however index.html does not appear in the location.href or location.pathname properties - only what you see in the browser address bar. I only have access to client-side Javascript (no server-side stuff at all).
Is there a way of getting this default filename from client-side JavaScript?
I have a table that is populated row and column headers, and data of course, I need to convert one of the row headers to a href that will reference a more detailed report. I have already gotten the parent/child relationship needed to pinpoint the data in that one cell but I can't figure out how to change it to a href using javaScript.

Do you put the url on href or attr? Can I still put the url on href? The reason I ask it's because seo friendly? Will search engine look into other pages by href? But I guess this way will actually load the whole page in the browser and there's no way I can do ajax stuff in this format? I like to do something nice on my links but don't want to hurt the seo part.
i have an html page and an external javascript page.
in the head section of my html i define two variables that are equal to the return value of functions in my .js file.
but when i try and access these variables from the head of my html in the body, I get a "variableName" is not defined error.
Code:

<script src="datetime.js" type="text/javascript"/>

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a few budget scripts that I can access from the web in using HTML. My problem is that when variable values change I need to change these values in all of the HTML files on the server. I know that there is a way to declare global variables in a single file and use those values in another file but I have not been able to find any information that tells me exactly how to do this. I have tried to put it together on my own using what little informaiton I have been able to find but have not been able to get this to work. Is there a more detailed referance that I can find somewhere or does anyone know what steps I need to take to make this happen?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have an external js file used by an html page but I want to use global variables defined in the html page in the js file. for example...
<html>
<head>
<SCRIPT type="text/javascript"
var test = "1";
</SCRIPT>
<SCRIPT type="text/javascript" src="jscript.js">
</SCRIPT>
</head>
So I have var test which is defined in my .html but my jscript.js also uses the variable. I am doing it this way because I have a lot of pages that are simular using the jscript.js functions but each page has different quantities and values of variables used.
I need help getting variables in an external js file to transfer to the html page that uses them. I have an html page that lists verses to memorize, which, when the mouse hovers over a particular verse, a small popup reveals the book reference for that verse, thus giving a check to see if the user has accurately referenced that verse for its source.
I have an external js file (VERSES.js) that houses the verses and popup references sequentially as elements in an array and then writes them to the html document. A simplifed version of what I am using, with only a few verses listed here as an example, and that works beautifully, is given below: Code:
I'm using the following code (simplified version) to call a Json file, parse it and on each iteration, create a div with an ID of "tab". I'm using this with jQuery UI .tab() to create a listing with entries which have three tabs. Anyhow, the principle seems to work except that when I examine what's happening behind the scenes using Firefox console, I see that each href in the html code produced is causing the Json function to re-fire using the href as it's url target.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
[Code].....
function submitPartsForm(str) {
var count=document.getElementsByName("partId");
for(var i=0;i<count.length;i++)
{
document.mylist.myNum[i].value= document.getElementsByName("partNum")
(i).value;}
document.forms["mylist"].submit();
}
myNum[] is a hidden variable and partNum is the name of a text field
that has many instances i mean there are many textfields with the same
name so it forms a column in a data table.
Currently I have the following script:-
function validate_form(){
if(regform.reguser.value == ""){
alert("Please completed the selected box");[code]....
to validate a simple registration form, however I initially tried to streamline this function by cycling through an array using a loop to point to various input elements in the HTML page itself. I found that when trying to use a variable in the aforementioned if statements the javascript failed to work i.e.
var test = "reguser";
if(regform.test.value = ""){
}
I know the javascript is looking for the input element "test" instead of "reguser" but is there any way I can force it to look for the contents of the variable.
Trying to build a little tool here..
<html>
<body>
Artist ID: <input type=TEXT id=ArtistID name= ArtistID value="Artist ID">[code]....
I'm trying to save the input and pass it into the URLs that are the option values. So Artist ID being 111 would take you to url..../<WHATEVER OPTION YOU CHOSE FROM DROP DOWN>/111
What am I doing wrong/What am I not doing?
I have a external file for example abc.js ,in this abc.js file no functions ,it contains some scripting,i want to call the scripting file though html I use the code
<script type="text/javascript src="abc.js"></script>
in the header file but i want it in a href tag
The subject says it all. Is that possible with jQuery?I would like to have a script that goes through a webpage when it loads and replaces all instances of [text] in the html with <a href="text.html">text</a>.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a program written in Javascript and fully functioning which takes a user-selected directory name and then displays all the photos in that directory in a certain format.
I am now wanting to expand the program to allow users to optionally enter their own strings and the program will use all the photos from www.flickr.com which use that string as a tag.
I have a PHP interface to flickr (called PHPflickr) which collects all the relevant photo urls. I now need to get these images back into my Javascript so I can process them using the existing functions (rather than rewrite all my functions in PHP code and have two sets of functions in the program). I found on another thread a means to do this for a date variable:
var jsArray = new Array(
<?php
$length = count($monthDataArray);
for ($i = 0; $i < $length; $i++)
{
echo '"' . addslashes($monthDataArray[$i]) . '"' . (($i < $length - 1) ? ',' : '') . "
";
}
?>
but being completely new to PHP I'm not sure what "addslashes" might be or what formatting will be necessary if I am starting with an array of urls. Code:
I've looked for this and I wouldn't know what the best practice would be
for solving the following problem.
We use a BASE tag in our HTML pages. Now we have some links that use the
<A HREF="#" onclick="...">Hello</Amethod to invoke a JavaScript.
However, because of the BASE tag, when clicking a link containing only a
# as 'href' it will load the root index.html file. What I want is it to
do nothing and execute the onclick handler.
Now I have two possible solutions:
- Replace the # with javascript:... and remove the onclick handler.
- Replace the A HREF by a SPAN having the same style as a link.
Both however, I've learn it isn't good practice to use javascript: in a
link. The SPAN as link would be a sort of Sim-HREF, which will probably
end up being trouble (span:hover anyone?). Anyone has a viable solution,
cause I must be missing something.
I am not really that good with javascript, but is there a way by javascript to get the href location of and <a>?
I am trying to write a javascript function that is able to read a html document, detects if there are links, and if there are, open them in a new windows.
Can someone help me on this little problem. I am using the following
code in an xsl page.
The directed page is written in the javascript: submitOnClick();
<a href="#">
<xsl:attribute name="onClick">submitOnClick();</xsl:attribute>
Main Menu
</a>
The problem is that when href is given the # sign, the moment i click
on the link it first jumps to the top of the page, before moving to
the directed page.
This can be seen when the page is longer than the screen size.
Is there any other solution to rectify that problem ..........
I am looking for JS script to replace find all the href values on a page and replace those href values matching them with an array of values.my array, lets say is a = {'some.ex.com', 'abc.ex.com/tv', 'some. name. ex.com', 'bcd.ex.com/dir1/dir2/some.jsp' }; etc.i want to find all the URLs on a given page, check if each found url matches with any of the values in the array, if match found, just replace only "ex.com" with "example.com" for every match.
