Use An If-else Statement Within A Sentinel Controlled Loop Plan?

Jan 24, 2011

I am attempting to set up a very basic menu to drive a program for two different games. I need the menu to process using a primed sentinel controlled loop (where the quit option is the sentinel). I have already set up a function for each game and was hoping to call the function when the user selects a game. I also want to both (a) keep a count of the number of games played and (b) keep a points score, which is to be displayed before the menu is shown agin. When the user quits, I want the final number of points and games played written to document body. I have only very basic knowledge of JavaScript so I realise this is probably a simple answer but I've spent a heap of time on it so far and the menu still has glitches.

This is what I have so far:

SENTINEL = 0;
MESSAGE_MENU = 'Menu: 1. Pattern Game, 2. Guessing Game, 0. Quit'
userInput = parseInt(prompt(MESSAGE_MENU));
while(userInput != SENTINEL) {

JQuery :: If Else Statement Inside Each Loop

Aug 3, 2010

I'm currently trying to produce an HTML table from an XML feed, using jQuery. And this works great! With an "each" loop, there now is a nice table on my screen, displaying the right information from the feed.

I would like for each new row of this table to have a separate color. For example:
row 1 - blue
row 2 - green
row 3 - blue again
row 4 - green again
...
and so on...

What I've tried, is putting something like this inside the loop:
var
x=0
(this line should probably be outside of the loop, but that doesn't seem to work)
if
(x=0)
code 1...
x=x+1
else
code 2...
x=x-1
But this doesn't work.

Recursive Function With For Loop, For Loop Is Breaking When Calling Itself

Jan 22, 2011

I have been looking at this code for two evenings now, and rewrote it 4 times already. It started out as jQuery code and now it's just concatenating strings together.

What I'm trying to do: Build a menu/outline using unordered lists from a multidimensional array.

What is happening: Inside the buildMenuHTML function, if I call buildMenuHTML, the for loop only happens once (i.e. only for 'i' having a value of '0'.) If I comment out the call to itself, it goes through the for loop all 3 times, but obviously the submenus are not created.

Here is the test object:

test = [
{
"name" : "Menu 1",
"url" : "menu1.html",
"submenu" : [

[Code].....

'Menu 2' and 'Menu 3' don't show up! I'm sure it's something small that I'm overlooking.

Send A Loop Variable (i) To A Function Inside The Loop

Aug 4, 2011

I'm looking to send a loop variable (i) to a function inside the loop, but I can't seem to get it to use the value I want, it keeps making it a reference of i and therefore the function is always called using the last value of i rather than the one it was set with.

So if i have 5 Tabs then Tab 1, when clicked, should call DefaultTabClick(0) and so on rather than always using 4 for any of the tabs.

Changing For Loop To While Loop?

I am doing some studying and we was to create a small loop using either the for loop, while loop or do while loop. I chose to do the for loop because it was easier to understand, but I want to know how to do the same using the while loop. Here is the for loop I have, but I cant figure out how to change to while loop.

New Foo(); As A Statement?

May 12, 2007

I am reading the ECMAScript specs trying to figure out if the next
line is a legal statement or not new Foo();

I think the above code may only be legal as an expression and not as a
stand alone statement. Would this make the above a bug?

Douglas Crockford's JSLint will choke on the above line of code and
stop parsing. All the browsers seem to accept it as ok and work as I
expect: the returned object just doesn't get assigned to anything.

The time I have used a line like the above is when the constructor has
side effects and the "class" keeps track of all its instances.

Any ideas what is right or wrong in this case?

IF Statement?

Jul 23, 2007

I have several text fields on page that I would like to make calculations based on if there is a number input in one of the fields.
So, if the price field is populated, the sale price field would populate using a function to do the calculation.

Now, how do I write the code for this to occur? I know how to get the function to fire based on clicking a submit button, but not sure how to do it simply based on a number keyed into the one field. Is this possible and if so, how?
