Passing Variable In Onclick?

Apr 2, 2009

Basically, I have a form with some text fields, and I want to put a button next to each text field, so that when a user clicks on the button, it increments the value in the field by 1. I know how to do it if I know the id of the text field, but what if the id of the text field is a variable? How do I do it? Here's my code:

<script language=javascript>
function process(v){
document.getElementById('order_item' + v + '_quantity').value++;

[code]....

My issue is with my onclick statement:

<input type="button" value="Add +" onclick="javascript:process(0)">

This works fine for my first field, but I need to have one for every text field, so how do I pass my counter variable (which determines the id of the appropriate text field) to the process function?

Passing Variables With OnClick?

Jul 8, 2009

Don't know if this should be under JS or PHP... I have 2 different pages. On the first one, a table shows a list of items. Each has a button that when clicked opens another window with specific size attributes, hence the onClick event. The 2 PHP variables are computed and different for each item (each line).

Here is the line:

<input onClick="javascript:window.open('player_buy.php?send_role=<?=$data['ROLE']?>&send_price=<?=$send_price?>', '_blank', 'status=0,toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=no,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=739,height=320, top=0,left=0')" class="button_sale" type="submit" value="> > >" name="submit">

Now of course, on the popup window, the URL will show .../player_buy.php?send_role=XXX&send_price=XXX

But the goal is to avoid that. So my question is: Is there a way to open such a popup window, pass these variables to it but in a way that it would not show in the URL?

Passing Variables With OnClick Hidden From URL?

Jul 9, 2009

I am reposting a question because my previous post went a bit wild and I didn't get my answer... I'll try to be more precise this time...I have a PHP page in which I query a mysql db, displaying the results in a table. For each line, I have a button that I want to click to open a new popup window and pass 2 variables to that new page. I use the onClick event. Values for these 2 variables are different for each line (each button). See code below.My question is: is there a way to pass these 2 variables and values to the popup window without displaying them in the URL?Here is the first page code:

<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<?
$sql = "select * from LNA_TEAMPLAYERS as A inner join LNA_PLAYERS as B on A.PLAYERID = B.ID_LNA_PLAYERS

Element Onclick Parameter Passing ?

Feb 3, 2010

I have a loop that iterates over an array of objects.

Then for each of these objects, a div element containing an img element is created and appended to the document.

Further each img element must have an onclick event that basically changes the backgroundColor of it's enclosing div, as well as make changes to the associated object in the array.

The loops basically looks like this:

Code:

Now everything is created fine and the events are bound to the images, however, the only things that change in any of the onclick events are the very last container and object passed. For some reason it seems that the references in all the previous loops are replaced with the newer ones.

Passing Two Lines Of Code Through OnClick?

Oct 19, 2009

I need to pass two lines of code through an onClick event.player1.sendEvent('STOP');player2.sendEvent('STOP');

I tried <a href="javascript:void(0)" onClick="player1.sendEvent('STOP'); player2.SendEvent('STOP');" title="<?php echo $list[$i]->title ?>">

only the event of player1.sendEvent('STOP'); is working... but not the second one. How do I manage this right here on the link rather than calling a fuction.

Setting Cookie OnClick, And Or Passing A Variable?

Sep 21, 2009

I'm more of an actionscript person but got roped into an html/javascript job.What I need to do, and it shouldn't be that difficult is this:page1.html - there is a yellow button and a red button - if the user clicks on the yellow button I want to set a cookie with the value "yel" then load the next page - if they click the red button set that cookie with the value "red"page2.html - 'onload' i want to read that cookie and load up the main image to match, something like this maybe?... document.mainimage.src='img/main_' + variable + '.png'so that the path would be for example 'img/main_red.png'f you think this would be easier sending that variable in the URL instead of as a cookie please explain. I'm having a very hard time searching for tutorials that are any good and that do exactly this kind of thing.

Passing Variables To An Onclick Assigned Function?

Mar 11, 2011

I'm looking for some help, as I've been going crazy trying to wrap my head around the step I am missing here. I have a function that generates a table of predefined row/column size, and which sets each <td> element's ID to "x ,y" where x and y are the horizontal/vertical coordinates within the table. It's intended for use in running a simple game.What I'd like to do is take it one step further and have the script generate onclick assignments for each <td>, giving them all an onclick function with unique arguments defining the <td>'s grid location. My problem is that I can't figure out how to pass the variables defining the coordinates to the onclick function created in the loop, as an argument.The syntax I'm using for assigning the onclick function:PHP Code:

cell[countx].onclick = function() {clickTile(''+countx+','+county+'')};
Variables countx and county are local to the original function. Here it is in context:
PHP Code:

Passing + Character When Passing Parameters Through Url?

Sep 30, 2009

I'm passing the variables myTitle and myLink to form.php using javascript.
This is the way I'm doing it:

Code:

<a href='form.php?title=" + myTitle +"&link="+myLink+">Click me</a>

It's working great but sometimes myTitle and myLink contain the plus character (+). When this happens it's not passed. In the case of the title, it's just a problem of looks but in the case of the link, well, the link won't work without the character.

As an example if the title is: Laptop + Accessories What is passed is: Laptop Accessories

What can I do to pass also the plus character??

Make An Onclick Event Change The Document.onclick ?

Sep 4, 2010

I want to make it so that when I click on something, it changes what document.onclick does.

This is a simplified version of what I'm trying to do:

Code:
<div id="clickme" onclick="document.onclick = function(){ alert ('This should not be alerted on the first click'); }">Click here</div>

However, as you'll notice, the alert box shows up on the first click as well. The only way I have been able to get around this behaviour is to have the first onclick execute a timer that will then set the document.onclick after 1ms, however this seems very messy to me.

OnClick In TR Conflicting With A Onclick

HTML4Strict Code:
<tr false;" style="cursor:pointer">    <td>Some data</td>    <td>More date</td>    <td><a href="thatlink.html" false;">Details</a></td></tr>

In other words - linking the link that should open up 'thatlink.html' opens up that window first followed by the 'thislink.html' window in the table row onclick call.

Passing A Value To PHP?

Mar 26, 2010

I am working on a dropdown list of countries and I have two questions about the code below:

1. How do I pass the value of the getSelectedValue() function into a hidden html field, so that I can post it to PHP's $_POST array?

2. When I create two or more instances of the dropdown list (shipping and billing addresses) the value of one changes both values, when I echo out <span id="country">. What do I need to do to separate them, so that each getSelectedValue() is separate? I know I can only have one id=country per page, so how do I have multiple values that remain separate?

Code:
$(".dropdown dd ul a").click(function() {
var dl = $(this).closest("dl");
var dropID = dl.attr("id");

Passing A URL As A Parameter

Oct 9, 2005

I have a javascript function that is called in an OnClick event for a
button.
I am attempting to get the function to open a web page in a new window
in response to a button click.

I can get the page to open if I use the following syntax (hard code the
address)

var newwin =
indow.open("http://www.w3schools.com","","width=1200height=1000");

However, If I pass the url in as a parameter to the function (as below)
the value passed in is "Undefined" and obviously the page will not open

function openThePage(url)
{ url = "http://www." + url;
var newwin = window.open(url,"","width=1200height=1000");
}

<input
class="mybutton"
type="button"
name = "W3Schools"
value="w3schools.com"
onclick="openMyUrl(W3Schools.Value)">
&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anyone any idea how I can do what I want - what I am doing wrong. I am
grey enough as it is and I don't want to start pulling my hair out.
