Pass Arg To Function By Value?
Jul 24, 2009
ok I have a unique problem, I need to pass a variable's value to a function instead of a pointer (reference) to the variable as by the time the function is called (because of the SetTimeout function) the variables value has changed.
I realise that may not be so clear so I've included the long explanation below, please bare with me ... =p
I have a 2 dimensional menu, when you hover over menu item it animates. to exaggerate that it is a menu (from the design it's not immediatly apparent) I decided to add a simple animation for when the page loads where it loops through each menu item and animates it in sequence.
each of the sub menu items are stored in a 2D array (SubMenuItemsArray) and I get the "wave" effect by having a short (60 millisecond) pause between each animation (achieved with Window.SetTimeout).
heres the code, I've set i and j to 0 after the loop to highlight the issue.

I am trying to minimize the amount of script that I use on my website. I have sections of each page; each section has the same basic layout. The divs and images that I want to make appear and disappear all have nearly identical ids, the only difference is the number at the end of the id.Is there a way to get one script to automatically detect which id number has been clicked and then show all elements with the same number at the end of the id? I would also like it to hide the elements in the hide function below (basically they are the elements that do not share the same id number).I currently have everything working the way I want it to using multiple functions like the one below but I woul
$("#2thumbNail2 , #ledBar").click(function () {
$("#type201 , #type203 , #type204").hide();
$("#image201 , #image203 , #image204").fadeOut("slow");

If it is possible to pass a php variable through to a javascript function.
Example.
I have a bit more to the code but that is the bare essentials as an example. If i remove the $id and $name from the passTest() for onClick the function works properly. However if I leave them in the function doesn't seem to work at all.

I was wondering if I can pass my php variables through javascript function. Actually i have a simple table of pictures, when clicked in the picture a new popup page comes up, it working fine uptill this stage but now I want to pass a value through it, for instance if user clicks on picture1 then my popup url should be "item_large.php?id=pic1.
My Javascript junction for the popup window:
function popup() {
window.open("item_large.php","Register","menubar=no,width=500,height=400,toolbar=no");
}
My Html code where I have my pictures:
<td height="19" align="center" valign="top" onmouseover="this.bgColor='#CC3300' ; this.style.cursor='pointer'" onmouseout="this.bgColor='#FFFFFF'" <A HREF="javascript:popup()">Picture01</A> </td>

I have a php script which dynamically creates a table containing text boxes with variable names.
Example:
In the above instance the text box name might be 'payable_23323'.
I need to code an onKeyUp event which sends the text box name to a function, and in that function I need to retrieve the text box name and the string after 'payable_' together with the value the user has input into the text box.

I know in different languages (VB.Net,C++,C#) how to pass an argument to function in this code:
<html>
<head>
<script language="Javascript">
<!-- hide
function openNewWindow() {
popupWin = window.open('[URL]',
'open_window',
'menubar, toolbar, location, directories, status, scrollbars, resizable, dependent, width=640, height=480, left=0, top=0')
} done hiding -->
</script></head><body>
<a href="javascript:openNewWindow();">return to front page</a>
</body></html>
I need to add several links in my page, so I need to pass indexes from links to main function, so I can open images in specific folder with indexes filenames. For example in vb
Subname("text_to_pass_to_SubName")
Public Sub SubName(ByVal function_text as string)
End Sub

My goal is to have the four Javascript buttons toggle the four pictures on and off. I know my css is right. Since everything is placed where I want it and is hidden when the page loads. I believe everything in my html is right. I am reasonably sure I am passing the img id using the onclick function correctly. I think my problem is in the Javascript file. I am thinking I am not passing it into the function correctly.

for example if you have a <span id = "test" onMouseOver ="myfunc(x)>
eg you have lots of differant span id's but you want then all to have a certain background-color with each individual on mouseover event without having to write separate code for each span id
eg <span id=" test2"onmouseover ="this.style.background ='red'>....

can i pass a hash as a function parameter. ive seen it been used
before but i can't figure out how to do it.
i would like to call a function like this for example
doSomething({variable1:"blabla",variable2:"blabla"});
how would function doSomething be written for this to work.
I would also like the hash to be optional and the variables in the
hash to be optional.
meaning i should also be able to call doSomething(); with no variables
in it.

I got a problem with passing dynamic DIV ID. I was doing some a php page which retrieved data from database and put into according DIV tag like this:
<DIV id="variabl1">msg1</td>;
Since there were tens of records in the table in database, the result would become:

<DIV id="variabl100">msg100</td>;
I got a JQuery script to show a specific message when a user moved his mouse over a DIV,
