Jun 7, 2009I have a problem that 'test' is not passed. The following function alert undefined, but it should alert test. Why that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way we can watch variable values inside javascript functions while running through the debugger. I am using javascript along with ASP.net on Visual studio 2010.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an html file with javascript functions in the <head> section that
work fine when called from events or instanced as objects.
When I move the functions to an external js file they don't work (timers
don't run).
What pitfalls are there in having "external" functions, is there a scope
problem like in c?
I am just trying to figure out how to do some different things with the for...in loop and jQuery, but now I'm wondering if this is even possible. I made a simple example to test:
function tellMeHeights(){
var allDivs = $.makeArray('div')
for (mydiv in allDivs){
height = $(mydiv).css('height')
alert(height)
}}
But this doesn't work - the alert box just says 'undefined'. Is it possible to iterate jQuery objects like this, or should I be using something else like .each?
I am just trying to learn a little bit about jQuery.Now I have a problem with returning a value from a function.The following code works fine, when I tested it with alert(price) or any other way of echoing the value directly. But if I try something like var test = getPrice(324), the variable test would always be undefined.
function getPrice(id)
{
$.get('db.xml', function(d){[code]....
I assume that the nested functions are part of the problem,
I have a php page in which I declared a js variable... right at the top of the page...
<script type="text/javascript">
var tester = 0;

my autocomplete shows value instead of label each time I scrool the item using arrow keys instead of mouse . . .
This is the code :
var req = [
{ "label": "Pollo0", "value": "90|1|9|150", "id": 1 },
{ "label": "Pollo1", "value": "90|1|9|150", "id": 2 },
{ "label": "Pollo2", "value": "90|1|9|150", "id": 3 },
[Code].....
I keep getting the function first as being undefined for some reason I
don't get.
I'm trying to use setTimeout() to pause execution so that an image in
my web page is switched every two seconds for another. Code:
No syntax errors - nothing should be getting in the way of this. All I'm trying to do is implement a different an "onclick" call, which calls the function and AJAXes in some values. Here's my code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.0/jquery.min.js">
</script>

$(document).ready(function() {

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried everything...and now even $(document).ready() doesn't work
a.) specify two parameters for the changeYear function: today and holiday.
function changeYear(today)(holiday){
b.) in the first line of the above function, use the getFullYear() date method to extract the 4-digit value from the today variable and store the value in a variable named year.
first line
c.) in the second line; use the setFullYear() date method to set the full year of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
second line
d.) in the third line, use a conditional operator on the year variable. The test condition is whether the value of the holiday date object is less than the today date object. If it is, this means that the event has already passed in the current year and the value of the year variable should be increased by 1.
third line
e.) in the fourth line of the function, again set the full year value of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
I currently have a ColdFusion 6 page with a <script> tag in it that is running two separate functions. This script tag is inside a loop:

I have been trying to write a java scrip that will move an image (image1) to the pixel location that the user inputs into a text box.
Here is what i have so far:
HTML Code:
I am not sure if the problem is in the variables or setting the variables based on the numbers in the text box.
I have a variable that says:
Code:
var Fname = lalala.js;
How do I write a function that moves the variable into a line of code like this?
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="lalala.js"></script>
The problem I having is the quotation marks as far as I know.

consider the next code:
var obj = {};
with(obj) {
var x = 10;
}
print(x);
print(obj.x);
It prints 10 and undefined. Here, one could expect that obj.x get the
value 10. But it's not the case, because variable declarations are
placed at the start of function code (or global code), so the
previous code is equivalent with:
var obj;
var x;
obj = {};
with(obj) {
x = 10;
}
print(x);
print(obj.x);
You can clearly see now that x is placed in the outer context. But
consider the next:
var obj = {};
with(obj) {
eval("var x = 10;");
}
print(x);
print(obj.x);
I was expecting that obj.x would get the value 10 here. But no, it
gives the same output as the previous code. I tested it with
spidermonkey, kjs and ie jscript. Looking at the ECMA spec, I could
not find anything that describes that behaviour. Code:
I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:
function show_video1(){
document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block";
var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)";
document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none";
[Code]...
and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.
My requirement is, I have multiple pages in tab format. If i am on first page in edit mode and change any control's value and without saving information i click on other tab that particular time a popup should appear showing validation message say "you are moving without save and it will loos all changes either click ok to loose the changes and move to other page or click cancel to remain on the current page."I tried using var isDirty = false; var msg = 'This page has unsaved changes.Click OK to abandon the changes and leave the page.Click Cancel to stay on the page so that you can save your changes.';

I am having some fun with javascript, and I came upon a site, on the site you have to try to figure out the passwords which are embedded in javascript, now im on the last level but i have no clue whats going. It seems to be an undefined variable. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Code:
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an embarrassingly similar problem to the last time I was here. I have a google map that generates links and checkboxes from an xml file and puts them in a sidebar. The links open infowindows and the checkboxes show or hide lines on the map.
Which all works ok. But (like last time) I have another function that puts arrowheads along those lines to indicate directionality.
The code which turns the lines off and on looks like this:
function togglePoly(poly_num) {
if (document.getElementById('poly'+poly_num)) {
if (document.getElementById('poly'+poly_num).checked) {
gpolys[poly_num].show();

Does anyone know why the onclick in the following popup menu gives
the error:"Val is undefined"? Does it have something to do with the
fact that it is called within the variable tablePop? Because it IS
displayed properly as part of the popup text, where it is called
outside the single quotation marks (see [***]). It is only in the
onclick that it's causing problems. Code:

I'm currently coding the beginnings of a stopwatch script.
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
var startTime;
var currentTime;
var started = 0;
function startStopwatch() {
if (started == 0) {
var startTime = new Date();
display();
alert(startTime);
}
}
function display() {
currentTime = new Date();
difference = (Number(currentTime) - Number(startTime));
document.stopwatch.display.value = difference;
setTimeout('display()',10)
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<form name="stopwatch">
<input type="text" name="display" readonly="readonly" size="40">
<input type="button" name="start" value="Start" onclick="startStopwatch();">
<input type="button" name="stop" value="Stop">
<input type="button" name="reset" value="Reset">
</form>
</body>
</html>
The value of startTime when called from display() is undefined. I'm not sure why, as I declared the variable outside the function. The variable should be accessible by all functions, right?
Any help would be appreciated.
I've boiled down my code to the essence of the problem; a variable which serves as a parameter to a function keeps coming up as 'undefined'. The code is quite simple:
