I've got a chat program which relies on a column in a MySQL database to see if he/she has logged out or not. But if you close the browser window, the computer still thinks you're online. I wrote this in the JavaScript section cos I think it would definitely need Javascript.

Is it possible to make my application always open in a new window even if IE 7 tabbed setting is set to Open links in a new tab in the current window.Always open pop-ups in a new tab.I am using the following command to open my application in new window
NewWin=window.open('my_http','_blank','toolbar=no,resizable=no,width=1150,height=810')
Which works fine as long as users dont set their IE7 tabbed setting to always open pop-ups in a new tab.

I have a javascript, calendar.js which i use to enable my client to
select the date. This calendar pops up on the click of a gif image.
But the problem is that this poped up window is not modal in nature(i
do not want the user to go the parent page unless he selects some date
in the calendar popup).
In the javascript calendar.js he has used window.open() function to
pop up the window. i just want to know whether we have any attribute
which when set to yes will make the window behave modal in
nature.(just like resizable="yes",toolbar="yes", do we have
modal="yes" ?)
i checked modal="yes" and it does not make the window behave modal in
nature. Am i using the wrong attribute name?(modal="yes").
Do we have such attribute. If not what are my other options.
I know that we can use window.showModalDialog(), but i need to modify
the window.open() function to make the window behave modally. Is it
possible to do so?

I have a large image which contains different sections. I can scroll this up and down a certain amount. however, I want to cut the display to only a small square of the large image, and hide the rest. i know how to do the link thing that if u click it it closes the window. but im wondering if theres a way to automatically close a window after the php code is done running. cause i have an inbox and theres a link to delete the message if you click on it it will open up a new windows and run the php script to delete the message then it will say message deleted. im wondering how instead if just saying msg deleted it can close itself(the window) as well? does anyone know how? can i do it with pure php or do i need javascript too? i figured javascript.

I have the following issue - if a user select 'select box' as a value in a drop-down list, a new window is opened where they can enter values then they should click on a button and a text thay have typed should pass to a hidden field in the parent window.
