Access Elements With Same IDs Within Multiple Forms?

Aug 11, 2011

Normally I would just use document.getElementById to get anything I need but here is my problem:

I have a zip code control that I load using AJAX. it has city, state, country, county and zip code. This gets loaded within a business application and at one point you can have both a bill to and ship to address forms on the screen at the same time, loading my zip control with the same fields, same ids and same name. This forced me to now pass in the form name that contains the control.

I need to get to divs and spans within this form. Primarily as you type in a city or zip code, I am doing a hot search with a popup div that shows you results you can quickly choose from. The only time this becomes an issue is the situation I mentioned before when the zip code control is on the screen twice. I am not certain how to access the innerHTML of a span or div by way of the form name. Is this possible and if so what is the proper syntax?

Here is a very basic example at its simplest form of my problem.

<form name="frm_billto" id="frm_billto">
<span id="myspan">Hello</span>
</form>
<form name="frm_shipto" id="frm_shipto">
<span id="myspan">World</span>
</form>

In the above example because the control was loaded twice, I now have 2 spans with the same ID. I want the innerHTML of the each span based on the form they are in.

We wanted one control that we could use throughout the system that we could update in one place and the entire application be updated. Unfortunately we did not anticipate having it load more than once on the page.

PayPal Shopping Cart Forms And JavaScript

Jul 23, 2005

I am designing a PayPal shopping cart/store for a client and have placed
several of PayPal's shopping cart forms on the page to correspond with
different products. Each form has a unique name though each of the
form's elements have to use PayPal's required naming conventions to pass
the data to their server.

Many of the forms have hard-coded data in them and these have not caused
me any problems. The problems I am having are with 3 forms that need to
send different amounts based on the quantity ordered. I wrote a small
function that worked great on the 1st form but when I created the 2nd
form and wrote the 2nd function, all of the forms that needed to send
conditional amounts broke down and wouldn't work any more. Code:

Javascript, Forms, And Counting Occurences Of Identical Names

Sep 2, 2003

I'm trying to make a form where a user can check boxes, and depending on if certain boxes have been checked, other boxes will grey out or un-grey.

What the code does is look at the checkbox name and depending on the family (f), and whether or not the box is a child (c) or a parent (p), the code will grey out certain boxes.

Now that I've sat back and thought about the code, I think there is probably a better way to achieve what I want. Maybe I can specify checkbox names instead of doing the parent child hierarchy that i'm trying. Code:

Javascript Access To Calculated Css?

May 26, 2005

I am looking for a way to troubleshoot css rendering problems. Is there a way to find the calculated styles for any object? I would love to be able to mouse over an element and see all the styles that are causing the element to be where it is, and look the way it does. The elements must "know" this information. Cross browser would be great, but we mainly deal with intranet apps based on IE. Code:

Access An Embed Object Via Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

I want to access the features of a plugin without actually embedding
it into a page. Is this possible? Eg

The code to embed the object into a page is:

<OBJECT classid='CLSID:7FA62735-AHC3-14d2-9F81-00114B3245C5
codebase='http://www.test.com/plug.cab#version=3,1' "id='myPlugin'
height=&#390;' width=&#390;'>

<EMBED type='application/x-myPlugin' name='myPlugin' hidden='true'
src='in.txt'></EMBED>

</OBJECT>

I could simply add this using document.write, but for various reasons
I dont want to do this.

I would rather do something like:

var plugin = (navigator.mimeTypes &&
navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-Web-Plugin"]) ?
navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-Web-Plugin"].enabledPlugin : 0;

myObj = new object("CLSID:7FA62735-AHC3-14d2-9F81-00114B3245C5");

Adding Forms But It's Limited To Text Input Forms?

Nov 14, 2011

how to add forms in javascript, but it's limited to text input forms.

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
function updatesum() {
document.form.sum.value = (document.form.sum1.value -0) + (document.form.sum2.value -0);
}
//--></script>

Where the inputs sum1 and sum2 are text fields you put whatever numbers you want in. That works fine. Great. Now what I'm having trouble with is modifying the code so that it will add one form with an input number with a form that spits out a randomly generated number.

<input type="button" value="D20" onclick="this.form.display.value = Math.round (20 * Math.random())" class="buttonHi" />  <input name="display" type="text" size="6" value="" />

This is what I'm using for my random number generator. So basically I want to be able to put, say, 5, into the input text field above this. And then click on the d20 button to get a random number, say, 15, and then have the first code add the inputted 5 with the randomly generated 15.

Problem With IE And (ajax) File Upload Via Iframe: Javascript Error Access Denied/zugriff Verweigert

Feb 14, 2007

i want to do (multiple) file upload(s) and display a progress bar.
with firefox and safari it is no problem at all. only IE makes some
problems.

my script is based on ajax-uploader, which can be found at
www.srmiles.com/freestuff/ajax_file_uploader/ . you can do multiple
file uploads. each upload will have it's own "form"-tag, so that each
file is uploaded for its own. could be a good solution if there are
"big" uploads.

so here is what i do:

i have a html-page in which several forms with file-input fields are
generated. when i now hit the "one" submit button at the bottom of the
page a javascript function upload() starts it will iterate through all
forms (id='frmUpload_xx'), will get the filename, start a ajax request
for the progress-bar function and do a form.submit().

if the first form/file is uploaded, a settimeout('upload()', 1000); is
called and the next form will be processed. all form's have an
target="uploaddiv", where uploaddiv is a invisible iframe. so the
output of the upload script is put in this div. output should only be
a "OK" at the end. no usefull output no info no nothing.

firefox and safari are working as expected, only IE stops after the
first file is uploaded. i get an javascript error saying "zugriff
verweigert/access denied" on object line x... this is the place where
i call "form.submit()".

this is the upload-function:

function upload() {
if (uploads.length>0) {
form = document.getElementById('frmUpload_'+uploads[0]);
if (form["filename"].value == ""){
alert("Please Choose a file to upload.");
} else {
filename = form["filename"].value;
if (filename.lastIndexOf("")>0) {
filename = filename.substring(filename.lastIndexOf("")
+1,filename.length);
} else if (filename.lastIndexOf("/")>0) {
filename = filename.substring(filename.lastIndexOf("/")
+1,filename.length);
}
makeRequest("upload_progress.php?sid="+sid
+"&filename="+filename,progress);
form.submit();
}
}
}

the strange thing is, that filename is filled correct, that means the
object "form" is found and exisits. the first iteration is working,
only the second ends with an error.

think it have something to do with redirecting the output of the
upload-script in an iframe. after that IE can't access form - at least
IE is not allowed to submit the form as i can access a form field
(filename).
i worked on that the last two days and haven't found a solution...

How To Loop Through Forms?

Using DOM in IE, how can I loop through FORMs and access FORM elements
in a specific form? For example, www.hotmail.com has about 13 forms.
I believe the one displayed is dependent on the URL. If I want to

one, how is that done?

Currently, I look for type=submit using DOM but it doesn't find
anything and only loops through the first FORM elements.

Two Forms One HTMarriage

Jul 23, 2005

I've been trying to teach myself JavaScript via a book and a number of
JavaScript Tutorials Online. I have more understanding of what I am doing,
although definetly not has much as what I have read on this newsgroup.

I'm trying to learn a new skill in order to hopefully get a job. My job went
to india while I was out on medical leave (carpal tunnel.)

My question, I have two JavaScript / Htm pages identical to the one below.
I'm trying to figure out how I could put both of these "identical"
javascript pages into One HTM page. But I am clueless as to what to look
for and or how to proceed. I'm thinking that I need to somehow add a
checkbox_checker() and a checkbox_checker(2) or something like this.

I've looked at the "For Dummies" book on JavaScript, and my Beginning
JavaScript Book as well as Google'd. Funny thing is though you have to have
enough "knowledge" of JavaScript to know what to look for....

Forms And Divs
