If Statement With Forms And Functions?

I have the following script:
function myFunc() {
// some code to do with AJAX
http_request.onreadystatechange = function() {
// do some things
return "a string";
}
}
alert(myFunc());
However, when I return "a string"; I want that string to be returned by myFunc() (and therefore alert'ed). What seems to be happening is that the string is being returned by the http_request.onreadystatechange = function() { } function, and myFunc() just returns false. How can I make the string be returned by myFunc()?
I've created a selection box (drop down box) with several options for the user to click. What I want is if the user clicks a certain box, then a specific javascript function will run. BTW, I am using Google Maps API here. Code:
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble with forms and functions. On my wife's site I have some forms and some of them have radio buttons. My current radio button checker is cumbersome and it is time for something more elegant (some of you will say if it isn't broke don't fix it )
The new code is below:
Code:
Basically I want to pass into the function radio button values 1 & 2 denoted by firstChoice and secondChoice (eventually I want to also pass in the form name but 1 step at a time).
The buttons can have the value (names?) of pattern, chalkboard or kit. It is for a shopping cart (Mal's E-commerce) and this is part of the JS validation. I am using onsubmit to call the function viz.
HTML Code:
Seems ok (to me at least) but when I try to get it to work it throws up an error of
Code:
It stops at that point but undoubtably chalkboard would throw up the same error if it continued.
How would I define the variables in my function? Are they strings, integers, who cares?
Where would I define them? Global or local?
Is the problem a matter of syntax e.g. if I put ' ' or " " around them would that suffice?
I'm looking at Doug Crockford's Javascript translations of Scheme functions at:[url]
I'm really confused by the variable declaration:
There's no quotes around the value, so what is it?
I played around with it in the console of my Chrome developer tools
I posted a thread a few days ago concerning a bit of javascript code to make checking one checkbox clear another one. I got some great, prompt help. However, I just got back to working on that web page, and realized that the functions only work on the first form on my web page. I have many forms and they are actively named using php.
Here's are the functions (these works for just the first form on the page):
<script type="text/javascript">
function undo_Changes() {
if (document.getElementById("Complete").checked==true) {
document.getElementById("Needs_Change").checked=false;

I'm trying to create a dynamic form, and for the most part it's working out fine.I'm using javascript with onclick and onchange on checkboxes and select boxes to change the form as the user makes selections.However, there's a few issues I'm running into that are giving me problems.
One is that when the user reloads the page, all of the javascript inserted or removed form elements are reset, but the choices on the checkboxes and select boxes aren't, which looks very strange to the user. How can I avoid this? I'm currently including scripts tags in the body of the html, but this is pretty messy and hard to manage. Is there a better way? Second is that I'd like to be able to insert javascript function declarations into text that is dynamically inserted by javascript.However, when I do so, the browser does not recognize the functions. The reason I'd like to do so is that I am using Ruby on Rails, and would like to be able to keep the scripts in the partials to which they relate. I have to use inline javascript, because the scripts are having element ids inserted based on Ruby variables. Is this a lost cause, or is there a technique that enables dynamically inserted javascript to be loaded?
Lastly, my dynamic form's javascript shows or hides portions based on what it encounters while loading. The main reason is that I want to show the whole form for users without javascript, and then hide advanced or obscure details unless they are activated with a checkbox on the form for users with javascript. However, this is creating a jarring pop-in effect, where on first load, the pre-javascript formatted page is shown for a split second, and then the javascript kicks in and fixes everything and the page visibly jumps and changes. Is there a way to avoid this to create a more polished effect?
I found this script for a navigation fade-in/fade-out and I want to modify it so it'll only trigger the fade-in/fade-out functions of the span class is NOT set to active. Here is the javascript:
Code:
$(function() {
$("#nav ul#menu li span.active").css("opacity","1");
$("#nav ul#menu li span.active").hover("opacity","1");[code].....
It's the part of the code beneath the comment CONDITIONALS BELOW that I want to be able to only trigger it if span is not set to class .active.
my webstie allows users to change the color of the background, so to keep the text readable I have it changing as well.the color picker I am using has text boxes with rgb values 0-255 for each.I am trying to get one bit of text to alternate between red and blue with the conditions
Code:
if(blue>green && blue>red)

I want to make few forms but 1 submit button. I want to do 1 page , 5 forms , 1 submit button so when i click on the submit button it will send the 5 forms as 1 form.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to add forms in javascript, but it's limited to text input forms.
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
function updatesum() {
document.form.sum.value = (document.form.sum1.value -0) + (document.form.sum2.value -0);
}
//--></script>
Where the inputs sum1 and sum2 are text fields you put whatever numbers you want in. That works fine. Great. Now what I'm having trouble with is modifying the code so that it will add one form with an input number with a form that spits out a randomly generated number.
<input type="button" value="D20" onclick="this.form.display.value = Math.round (20 * Math.random())" class="buttonHi" /> <input name="display" type="text" size="6" value="" />
This is what I'm using for my random number generator. So basically I want to be able to put, say, 5, into the input text field above this. And then click on the d20 button to get a random number, say, 15, and then have the first code add the inputted 5 with the randomly generated 15.
I have written a number of functions designed to return frequency data on 1000 randomly chosen numbers using different math functions for the rounding. I would like to include all of these functions within the wrapper of another function so that only one call is needed to get returns from all of the 'inner' functions. However, while each of the functions works in isolation, the moment I wrap them in another function they stop working. :confused:
The following code is one of the functions 'frequencyWrapperOne' that has been wrapped in the function 'testWrapper'. A call to testWrapper does nothing.
function testWrapper()
{
function frequencyWrapperOne()
{
[Code]....
$(something).split(something),this is a function with a function as a property for that function.

I am reading the ECMAScript specs trying to figure out if the next
line is a legal statement or not new Foo();
I think the above code may only be legal as an expression and not as a
stand alone statement. Would this make the above a bug?
Douglas Crockford's JSLint will choke on the above line of code and
stop parsing. All the browsers seem to accept it as ok and work as I
expect: the returned object just doesn't get assigned to anything.
The time I have used a line like the above is when the constructor has
side effects and the "class" keeps track of all its instances.
Any ideas what is right or wrong in this case?
I have several text fields on page that I would like to make calculations based on if there is a number input in one of the fields.
So, if the price field is populated, the sale price field would populate using a function to do the calculation.
Now, how do I write the code for this to occur? I know how to get the function to fire based on clicking a submit button, but not sure how to do it simply based on a number keyed into the one field. Is this possible and if so, how?
What is the correct construct for accessing "pageYOffset" in another window?
I've tried this, but it doesn't work:

I remember using if statements with null in it. For example, at one

document.write(value)
However, this script causes an error in any browser. Why can't it
correct the value like it should?

The fname and lname work fine but mi does nothing and I get no error is this because of the if statement or the fact that the mi only has one character?
I need to give two separate alerts depending on what the user clicks when they click the "Submit" button. I am using a confirm box. If they click "OK" it thanks them for their order. If they click "Cancel" it should go back to the form. I have written the code that I thought would work but it will not.
function confMsg(){
var s
s = confirm("Click OK to Submit Order. Click Cancel to Cancel")
if (s=="true"){
alert("Thank You for Your Order!")
else
return;
