How To Access Iframe Element From The Parent Document
Nov 8, 2006
I have a parent document which has an iframe loaded in it. The iframe has an textfield element. I want to access this textfield element from the parent document. I have tried the following. But that doesn't work.
(from the parent)
window.frames['frame01'].document.getElementById('idname')
I always get as null.

I have a webpage with an IFrame in it. The content for the IFrame could change per page and with it size. I don't want scrollbar's inside the IFrame but rather for the whole page. To accomplish this I must resize the height of the IFrame (width = fixed). But I can't seem to accomplish this. The links within the Iframe load the new content but I have to access the parent document to be able to resize the IFrame height. How I can resize the iframe from within javascript in the IFrame.

I'm working on a project and within a document I have content being loaded into an iframe. When a user clicks on an item in the iframe, a pop-up div is loaded using the facebox plugin but it's obviously contained by the iframe. Is there any way that I can pull that element out of the iframe into the parent document? Or at least position it so it looks like it's part of the parent document and not the iframe? My reasoning for this is sizing and positioning. I want to expand the size of the facebox div and position it over top of some of the parent document elements but, since it's within the iframe, I'm limited to the size of the iframe and positioning is limited to being within the iframe.

I have an iFrame on a page where I am calling .mouseup(function()) on it's document child.Once in the mouseup function, I need to refer to a specific sibling of the iFrame.Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to traverse backwards to the iFrame element from $(this) - where $(this) is the document. I get a null set returned when I try$(this).parents().

Demonstration page: [url]
Adjust the CSS margins of the BODY element with the first slider. The yellow P (paragraph) element resizes to fit its smaller containing block, as I would expect.
Then, adjust the CSS border or padding of the BODY element with the second and third sliders. The P element does not resize, though its origin changes. Instead, it overflows its containing block.
Finally, adjust the margins again. The P element snaps back into its containing block.
As you can see from the source, this is jQuery 1.6.4 and jQueryUI 1.8 pulled from googleapis.com.
Edit: Client is Google Chrome16.0.889.0 dev-m.

I have a page A and inside it I have an iframe B. B points to another php file that shows a form (so basically in the iframe we see a form). When I submit the form, I call to another page C that verifies the fields of the form and if they are ok I redirect to page X, if not I redirect to page Y. The problem is that I see page X and Y inside the iframe, and I want to see them in the parent page.

I've created an object with properties and methods. The object is associated with a form. The object iterates through the form and finds any inputs that are required. It then uses each to apply validation to each of the found inputs. From within each(), I need to access properties and methods of the parent object, but now this refers to the current collection object. How do I access the containing object?

I'm new to web programming in general, so bear with me as some of my methods may not be entirely correct. What I currently have working is I have a webpage which contains a DIV, which I am using to load another webpage via javascript(which calls itself, in order to get an auto-refreshing effect). The webpage that's being loaded is detecting if a process is currently running on the server and writing some console output while it's running, and what I want to do is stop the auto-refreshing when the process completes. (I can detect when the process stops already).I'm trying to figure out how to properly set this variable from my page that's being refreshed, since it's being loaded in a DIV I figured there has to be some way to retrieve the parent's information.

I have an AJAX application using which im attempting to acces a #Text node in the NAME tag of a XML document. i then want to sort the names and place them into tables <td> tag. i can put the names in the <td> but i want them sorted alphabetically. from my understanding im suppose to be able to sort an array simply like this Array[].sort();..............this is the reason i need the text to be an array. Unless you know a simpler way to do this.
Code:
function postNames(){
var signersdoc = xmlHttp.responseXML;
var container = document.getElementsByTagName("td");

Is it possible to read the DOM of an iframe if the iframe's src is
from another domain?
I realise I can't manipulate the DOM from another domain for security
reasons, but can I access the DOM and just read object's values?
This is what I've tried so far without any success:
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").contentWindow;
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").innerHTML;
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").childNodes[0].innerHTML;
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").childNodes[0].nodeValue;
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").documentElement;
document.getElementsByTagName("iframe").contentDocument.
document.getElementById("testIframe").innerHTML;
document.getElementById("testIframe").childNodes[0].innerHTML;
document.getElementById("testIframe").childNodes[0].nodeValue;
