Hidden Variables Being Found 'null' ?
Feb 18, 2010
Javascript is not recognising any of the hidden variables on this web form. It simply reports them to be null. I tried declaring a new variable without "runat=server". No luck.
<html>
When queried the value, it says "Object required" and when queried the variable, it says "null".

I have a JavaScript config file called gameSetting.js which contains a bunch of variables which configures a particular game. I also have a shared JavaScript library which uses the variables in gameSetting.js, which I include like so:
<script type="text/javascript" src="gameSetting.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="gameLibrary.js" ></script>
In gameSetting.js I have:
$(document).ready(function()
{
// call some functions / classes in gameLibrary.js
}
in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, this works fine. However, in IE, when it's parsing gameSetting.js, it complains that the functions that live in gameLibrary.js aren't defined. When it gets to parsing gameLibrary.js, the variables in gameSetting.js are reported as not being defined. I've tried dynamically bootstrapping the gameLibrary file using this function in document.ready for dynamic load.
However, the same problem still happens in IE, where when it parses the files individually it's not taking into context the file/variables that came before, so it's not an out of load order problem.
My options are:
1) collapsing all the functions in gameLibrary.js and variables in gameSetting.js into one file. However, this is not practical because this is dealing with literally hundreds of games, and having a gameLibrary.js in ONE location for ONE update is what makes most logical sense.
2) figure out a way to get this to work where variables in file1 are accessible to file2 in IE (as it seems they are in other browsers).
jQuery seems to be able to have multiple plugins that all refer to the based jQuery-1.3.2.js, so I know there is a way to get this to work.

I am reposting a question because my previous post went a bit wild and I didn't get my answer... I'll try to be more precise this time...I have a PHP page in which I query a mysql db, displaying the results in a table. For each line, I have a button that I want to click to open a new popup window and pass 2 variables to that new page. I use the onClick event. Values for these 2 variables are different for each line (each button). See code below.My question is: is there a way to pass these 2 variables and values to the popup window without displaying them in the URL?Here is the first page code:
<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<?
$sql = "select * from LNA_TEAMPLAYERS as A inner join LNA_PLAYERS as B on A.PLAYERID = B.ID_LNA_PLAYERS
[code]...

function submitPartsForm(str) {
var count=document.getElementsByName("partId");
for(var i=0;i<count.length;i++)
{
document.mylist.myNum[i].value= document.getElementsByName("partNum")
(i).value;}
document.forms["mylist"].submit();
}
myNum[] is a hidden variable and partNum is the name of a text field
that has many instances i mean there are many textfields with the same
name so it forms a column in a data table.

I did find the javascript twice in my code, once in the header and once here, so i removed it from the header. I also changed to src to the full url. But i am still getting this and i dont know why. the file is located in the root directory. found a solution. basically Internet Explorer is crappy and doesnt like the setAttribute property so had to change the onchange handler by directly changing the attrbute for the object like so.object.onchange = function() {}i have no idea what they means, does that mean i need to change swfobject.js or does that mean i have to change my xml request. and if it is the swfobject i have no clue what they mean or what lines

I put a long script but the problem is small.
var book1 = bobj1.value;
var chapter1 = cobj1.value;
var verse1 = vobj1.value;
var book2 = bobj2.value;
var chapter2 = cobj2.value;
var verse2 = vobj2.value;
[Code].....
I don't know if this is written properly: if(bcv[a]!= ""){ The reason this is happening is because the error shows: Error: cobj1 is null Source File: [URL]

I am trying to get a simple set of Javascript tabs to work properly. I have just two tabs and I want to set up the script to have the second tab automatically hidden prior to reading the javascript code because right now it shows the contents of both tabs when the page is loading and then the second tab disappears after all the script has loaded.
I have the jquery script linked to on the page and here is the way my script looks to run the tabs:
Code:
I want to add something like style="visibility:hidden;" to the DIV that isn't shown on page load and have it added and removed as necessary when users click on the tabs. So basically I would like the generated code to look like this:
Code:

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.
Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

Venegal (Thx) wrote the majority of the following script and I must say , he did a great job:thumbsup:. there are a few extensions to script that are needed.
the priority within the searched user words and the found content on the site have been set to "the first found" will be hilited. e.g:
1. the wonderfull holidays
2. Sunny holidays
3. holidays in Spain
No.1 (div) only would be hilited if the user search words were e.g: "sunny holidays in Spain". I need the priority to be set so that all three divs would be hilited if the word "holidays" (for example) were searched for.
the Script:
function toggle(id, status){
document.getElementById(id).style.visibility = status;
}
function populateSearchField(){
[Code]....

The onload event appears to be firing before all the content of my
window loads or something. In the stripped down example below, my
browser tells me that it cannot find the object "thisThing." What
gives?

window.onload = document.getElementById("thisThing").style.background =
"red";
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="thisThing" style="height:40px; width:50px;

Code:
var testi_box = {
spread: function(num) {
var main_obj=document.getElementById('testis');
$('.bg').stop().animate({opacity:1},800);
$(main_obj).stop().animate({height: 420}, 800);
var objs=main_obj.children;
[Code]...
So, I have this object that is set to fire its method the moment a user hovers their mouse over a particular div on my page. IT works just fine in all other browsers but IE7 or below. When i look at the error in IE it says that testi_box is undefined. But clearly it is defined. So, I'm lost. Is there something that I am missing?

I have dynamic divs being added to a contianer. I create them like this [code]...
The problem is when the dynamic DIV is added to the form, it shows up but is not clickable. The event is never called. When a div is added with the class clickable on page load, the event is triggered.
Im guessing there is some way to add an element to the clickable selector but I can not figure it out.

Basically I have a table completely generated and appended to the DOM in javascript, I am calling:$("#tableID" + p).siblings('.child-' + "tableID").fadeOut('fast');This works fine in FF and Safari, but IE does not find the siblings. I even did an alert with:$("#tableID" + p).siblings('.child-' + "tableID").length, and as expected IE returns 0, while FF/Safari return the correct amount (2).

I was looking at the jquery.flash plugin and it looks like what I need to get the job done but how to do it. Here is some sample code from the plugin site
$('.custom').flash(null, null, function(htmlOptions){
// do stuff
});
Below is the code I tried using:
<script type="text/javascript">
var strToAdd = 'my text to add'
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#flashHere').flash(null, null, function (htmlOptions){
$(".hello").append(strToAdd)
});
}); // END DOCUMENT READY
</script>
In the end what I would really like to do is replace one div with one other if flash is not found, this will make an iPhone friendly version of a site with a lot of flash video on it.

I need to retrieve part of a web page pointed to by a link <a class="fetch" href='web_page_address'> ... The part I want has an id of 'unit_descr'. When I know the address beforehand and can enter it manually without fetching it, this works:
[Code]...
I suspect that $('a.fetch') selects a complete JQuery object whereas I only want the content. Given that I can get hold of the content and put it into the url-variable,I am also not sure whether it is OK to use url +' #unit_descr' to construct the argument for the load function.

I have a Patient intake form which takes Patient information like FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME, DATE OF BIRTH, ADDRESS, CITY, and POSTAL CODE. When a user enters FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME and DATE OF BIRTH it should fill the rest of the fields (ADDRESS, CITY, POSTAL CODE) if I have a record in my database.
I am using JAVA with MYSQL and I pull records when a user leaves DATE OF BIRTH textbox.I dont know weather I should store everything in a dropdown or I should have a separate form for the matched records from where the user can click the record and fill the rest of the fields.

I've found the following errors:
"Expected colour but found '#'. Error in parsing value from property 'color'. Decleration dropped. Line 0"
" Error in parsing value from property 'display'. Decleration dropped. Line 0"
How can i go about finding which lines of code are creating these errors? as it tells me its on line0, this gives me no clue as to where to look.
