Find A Script - Puts Like A Dark Grey Transparent Mask Over The Intire Browser Window
Mar 31, 2010
I have recently started seeing a script that puts like a dark grey transparent mask over the intire browser window, while putting up in the center a highlighted visable login form or some type of box requiring user input. Can anyone tell me if that is javascript and possibly point me in the direction where I can find out more about that effect.

There is a big wide problem that with IE6, PNG images display this horrible grey or white background when it's transparent. It looks ugly, but I can't seem to find a way to solve it. I've searched on google and copied scripts, inserted them in to the document I wish for the png to be completely transparent but it's still not working. I would normally just leave it, but as I want the site to look professional and the transparent png is essential to the data being displayed, I've been trying to find solutions to it.
I realise that most users have upgraded to IE 7 / IE 8 which supports transparent png images but there's got to be a small percentage of users who use IE6. I can't just say "sorry you'll have to upgrade your browser to view the data properly" obviously, so I'm trying to find solutions. I've tried using spacer.gif but that doesnt work (but it does when on table designed pages), so I found some scripts:

I need to find the position of an element on the page relative to the browser window. Its part of a popup calendar script (and no, they don't want to change it so please don't suggest jQuery date-picker etc) The script uses these functions [url]... to find the position of the anchor to pop up the calendar next to it.
Now the client wants to make the calendar fixed when the user scrolls so that it always stays on screen. The most graceful solution is using css position:fixed (I'm aware it doesn't work in IE6 - that's not a problem)
I've been using the getAnchorWindowPosition function to get the coordinates but the numbers its giving are wrong (to different degrees depending on the browser) It was only 200px out in the Y axis in Firefox but in IE7&8 its off the screen.

I have a large image which contains different sections. I can scroll this up and down a certain amount. however, I want to cut the display to only a small square of the large image, and hide the rest. Think of a slot machine, the wheel is spinning but you only see a small area in front of you. How do I achieve this in jquery?

I am trying to open some SWF videos from an HTML page. When the user clicks the link, I would like to have the videos open in a transparent window (not a separate browser wndow).
I have figured out how to embed the files and have them open in a transparent window as soon as you load/refresh the page but I want to open the SWF using a link.

I use
$(document).ready(function(){
/* hintergrunbild fade */
$('#beyondLogo').fadeTo(2000, 0.8, function() {
});
});
in order to fade the background of a div. The content in this div I'd like to have without transparency. In IE this is the case, but in Firefox the content also is transparent with 0.8.I tried to apply fade with 1 to the content but that did not work ...

I am building a web based site administration tool and I would like to implement a system whereby when a site administrator is adding a news item or whatever they can click on a text or button link (say, "Bold") and it will automatically insert the correct tags (i.e. "<b></b>"). Almost exactly like vBulletins code imput buttons when you are composing a new topic or reply. But with vBulletins version you are presented with a textbox you need to type in which then puts the code and your text in the form, I want my version to just put the code in. I can't really explain it but I hope you get it.

I'm having a little problem with creating a element in internet explorer. The element that I'm creating is a div with a few style attributes to to it. The div is suppose to cover the whole page almost like a black transparent window on the page. However it is not. The messed up part about this is that it works fine in Firefox, google chrome and I'm sure other browsers (though haven't tested) and when I go to apply the div in my actual code as javascript is suppose to when you tell it create it, it works fine. No problems whatsoever.
function showPhotoUpload() {
var overlay = document.createElement("div");
overlay.setAttribute("style","z-index:3; background:#111111; width:100%; height:100%;

I have a colour picker on my site, see it at [URL]Now I want to change the colour of the links on the page, don't worry I know how to do all this.
It's just if someone chooses full black (#000000) the theme looks awesome, but the links on the dark background are invisible.
Similarly if someone chooses full white (#ffffff) then you can't see the text on the white background.
So I want to know if you geniuses can make it so when a variable containing a hex, like #000000 is set as the main colour, then the link colour is changed to #666666 so you can still see it, but I want it to work with colours, so if you had #360000 (dark red) then the link colour would be something like #a10000.
I hope I have explained it well enough for you to understand, here is my code to change the background:
onChange: function (hsb, hex, rgb) {
$('.colour-picker-colour').css('backgroundColor', '#' + hex);
$('.background').css('backgroundColor', '#' + hex);
[Code]....

I have an image that I set to have a width of 100%. I want it to be no higher than the screen height. Its inside a div which itself has no height limit set. So I thought I could set the image height to screen.height. But when I do that, it seems to be larger than the visible client area of Internet Explorer. I want it to fit within that space. I realize the image might be distorted by doing that, but thats OK.

I'm developing a site that will use technologies like JavaScript and AJAX. I want the site to be functional for people that has older browsers or JavaScript turned off so for this I need to find out if the user's browser is supporting JavaScript and AJAX.
How can I check this in an easy and simple way? I.e the user enters my website with JavaScript turned off at the moment. And then he turns it on and reloads the page. I would like to catch that he has turned JavaScript on. The same goes with AJAX (although there is no off/on setting for AJAX).
