I am using a js calendar script that populates a text field with a date. When clicking in the field the calendar shows then i choose a date, calendar closes, the date is now in the field. great it works fine.
example- *note, array use[]*
<input type="text" id="example[]" name="example[]" value="" onfocus="if(self.gfPop)gfPop.fPopCalendar(this);return false;">
I want to make this call from a button. when adding the code to a href, the popup shows but nothing happens when selecting a date. I have tried the following scripts will failure.
*html a href and img tag left out*
onclick="if(self.gfPop)gfPop.fPopCalendar(document.this_form.elements['example[]']);return false;"
onclick="if(self.gfPop)gfPop.fPopCalendar(document.this_form.example[]);return false;"
onclick="if(self.gfPop)gfPop.fPopCalendar(this);return false;"

or does it HAVE to be
onClick:"myFunction()"
I know 'javascript' is not necessary here, but just want to know whether to include it (which sometimes I do by mistake) is incorrect syntax or not..

I'm used to just using getElementById to look stuff up in my own scripts but I'm doing an assignment and it would not look good to put id's everywhere to modify a html page when there are already name attributes in the elements.
In this page I can't refer to the Family Name input box using document.form1.familyName for some reason. Is it because it's inside a table after the form is opened? What syntax should I be using? Code:

Im just writing a simple dynamic counter.
Form:
<form name="eqform">
<input name="ButtonLectureplus" value="+1" type="button" onclick="lectureplus(0.75)">
<input name="TextLecture" type="text" size="30" maxlength="30" readonly>
[code]....
This works in a way that "number" isnt used and 1 is added repeatedly. 2). Function:
function lectureplus(number)
{document.eqform.TextLecture.value = document.eqform.TextLecture.value + number;}
This doesnt work because he shows me "0,750,750,75 .... " (and also "+=0.75" shows the same result)
alert (typeof document.eqform.TextLecture.value + number); show me "string0.75"
I tried to use parsefloat() to force "document.eqform.TextLecture.value" be a number but can not find the right syntax to make it work.
"parsefloat(document.eqform.TextLecture.value)" doesnt work

I'm having an issue with a javascript image slider that I downloaded and have implemented. You can see the page I am working on here...[URL]. And the script is at [URL]. It works fine on my Mac browsers, and then fine on Windows Firefox, but it's when I try it on IE it breaks. Or rather doesn't even show up. The other issue I've occasionally noticed is that an image won't load and shows as a broken image link, even though the image is there and is referenced correctly. This is an issue across the board, and only happens randomly.

I am definitely more designer than programmer. Not sure if this possible, If it is then I am definitely getting the syntax wrong. I'm trying to pull array data as such:
var carouselC2R1Array = new Array(500, 4, 0);
var currentSilo = 2;
var currentImg = 1;
carouselWidth = "carouselC"+currentSilo+"R"+currentImg+"Array"[0];
carouselMaxImages = "carouselC"+currentSilo+"R"+currentImg+"Array"[1];
carouselCurrentImg = "carouselC"+currentSilo+"R"+currentImg+"Array"[2];
But instead of returning the correct data I get this:
carouselWidth = c
carouselMaxImages = a
carouselCurrentImg = r

I'm looking at some code I do not understand:
var icons = new Array();
icons[""] = new GIcon();
icons[""].image = "somefilename.png";
I read this as an array of icons is being built.
An element of the array is an object itself but what is this syntax of
the consecutive double quotes inside the brackets ?

I am doing in a loop
element = xGetElementById(obj.ID+i);
position = element;
I need this several times in my script and I am sure it createst quite a lot of overhead. And I would like to pass xGetElementById(obj.ID+i) into an element array. like:
element = new Array();
element[i]=xGetElementById(obj.ID+i);
So I can call back element[i] etc in my script by saving some overhead BUT (there is always a 'but' in my posts ) then:
position = element[i]
does not give anything.
Any clue? Is it possible?

I have a function that requires the ability to count the number of entries in an array.
I'm using the following to call my function inside an input tag:
Here is the javascript:
And when errors.length is alerted, it outputs 0. I can only figure that there is an issue when using custom named keys in an array, since this works when I use only integers, however, I have the need to use a custom key index as shown.

I am experience some problems reading a form variable from a
Javascript function. The point with this particular variable is that
its name has the following syntax:
<input name="tx_impexp[tt_content:159]"/>
I want to set this var to 1 from my javascript function, so I tried
to execute the following line of code:
document.frm_1.tx_impexp[exclude][tt_content:159].value=1;
Unfortunately the following error come up:
Error: missing ] in index expression
document.frm_1.tx_impexp[exclude][tt_content:159].value=1
--------------------------------------------------------------|
It seems Javascript expects to close down the bracket at the position
marked...An easy solution would be to change my var syntax but the
point is that I cannot since I am using an already made script and I
should not modify it.
Just wandering if this is due to a syntax error defined according to
Javascript specification language or there is something wrong with
this.

I have an unordered list that I am using as a menu. This list contains sub lists.
I found out how to get the index of the primary unordered list item that is being hovered but I am not getting the syntax correct to reference the individual items of this listto get the HTML, the position, height and lengthof this item.
$(" #nav li").hover(function(){
// Locate the index of the singular list item that is being hovered
var index = $(this).parent().children('li').index(this);
// This is incorrect
var $itemObject = $(this).parent().children('li')[index];

how to add extra properties to html elements as I was storing data in html attributes. After looking at some others code including Raphael and this addEvent code. [URL] They seem to treat objects just like an array. obj[property] = value; This would have been extremely helpful to know previously as I have needed to be able to include variables in property names - but have resorted to making the whole thing a string and calling exec() on it.

I'm working on recreating a paper form as accurately as possible in XHTML. I can't keep my sanity with that man DIVs, so I'm using nested tables.
In most fields (TDs) I have a label and a text box, and I'd like to have the text box fit the width of the TD as accurately as possible, without going on to another line. As far as I've heard, the only way to do this is using JS to get the width of the TD and the label, and then adjust the width of the text box to fit.
I'm using FireFox 3.0.11 for development. For some reason, the width of the TDs is being reported incorrectly. I've tried .width, .style.width, .offsetWidth, .clientWidth and .scrollWidth. They all agree within a few pixels, but are horribly incorrect. My current screen resolution is 1400x1050, and I've taken a screenshot and measured that to confirm - the actual width of the TD is approx. 1130 pixels, but it's being reported by all of those JS functions as +/- 865 px.
None of the tables or TDs have widths defined, it's all just automatic sizing. The only width/size defined at all is an overall div with 2% margins on each side.
