I am trying to make a variable link on a page. The page has a text box
for a stock symbol. The code is: <input type=TEXTBOX Name="symtb"
value="" size="10>
The value of the text box {the stock symbol} will complete the url.
I found code for a variable link:
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function variable_in_link(varible_value)
{
new_win = window.open('http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=" +
varible_value'')
}
// -->
</script>
The link I am trying to use is: <a
href="javascript:variable_in_link(symtb)">The text</a>
No matter what I do the variable_value comes back as undefined. There
is always a value in the text box.
im trying for last 4 days. please help me out
Code:
<input name="name" type="text" value="Raj" />
<a href="01.php?name=(document.getElementById('name').value" class="nyroModal" rev="modal">click here</a>
For ease of future modifications on my page, I want to have a list of URLs stored in an Array, and I want to then use these URLs in an href tag. Something like this:
<SCRIPT>
menuURL[0]="page2.htm";
menuURL[1]="javascript://";
...
</SCRIPT>
<BODY>
<A HREF = menuURL[0] ........
How is something like this possible, as well as being fairly crossplatform, and intuitive? I've changed the syntax, and tried various other things to no avail.
When I click the name, I should go the particular page about that person.
<script type="text/javascript">
if (window.ActiveXObject)
{
xmlDoc=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
xmlDoc.async="false";
xmlDoc.onreadystatechange=verify;
xmlDoc.load("a.xml");

How can I get the href attribute in a variable?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a base html page which contains several thumbnail images with links to enlarged images which I'd like to view in an external page [so I can control the dimensions of the enlarged image]. I thought it best to use an externaltemplate html page to launch these within and therefore imagine I need to declare the variable in the thumb links page & image they may need to look something like this:
<a href="mytemplate.html?imgVar=/images/collection/large1.jpg">thumb1.jpg</a>
<a href="mytemplate.html?imgVar=/images/collection/large2.jpg">thumb2.jpg</a>
<a href="mytemplate.html?imgVar=/images/collection/large3.jpg">thumb3.jpg</a>
Then in the external page pick up the variable something like:
<img src="imgVar">
I've looked all over Google & can only see something similar to this in php. Is there a way to achieve this with jQuery instead?
I have an existing website I an trying to modify. In speedscript I have my include libraries and a veriable. Then I need to do an href with a link I have the code as follows <a href="WI_testweb/" + "custno" + ".xls">Matrix</a> The custno is the variable. Is there a way of doing this since the way I an trying is not working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the following script:
<script language="javaScript">
function setrepto(){
document.aForm.repno.value =
document.aForm.rep.options[document.aForm.rep.selectedIndex].value;
}
</script>
On the following form (Partly in asp):
<form name="aForm">
<select name="rep"
<option value="ALL">Select a Rep Here</option>
<%
while not slsrs.eof
repno = slsrs("SLS#")
repname = slsrs("SLSNAM")%>
<option value="<%=repno%>"><%=repname%></option>
<%slsrs.movenext
wend%>
</select>
</form>
To change the value of 'repno' in the following href, which is on the
same page:
<a href="nextpage.asp?rep=<%=repno%>">Click here</a>
So basically, as a user changes the selection, the value of repno in
the above href should change.
I'm using the following code (simplified version) to call a Json file, parse it and on each iteration, create a div with an ID of "tab". I'm using this with jQuery UI .tab() to create a listing with entries which have three tabs. Anyhow, the principle seems to work except that when I examine what's happening behind the scenes using Firefox console, I see that each href in the html code produced is causing the Json function to re-fire using the href as it's url target.

I've looked for this and I wouldn't know what the best practice would be
for solving the following problem.
We use a BASE tag in our HTML pages. Now we have some links that use the
<A HREF="#" onclick="...">Hello</Amethod to invoke a JavaScript.
However, because of the BASE tag, when clicking a link containing only a
# as 'href' it will load the root index.html file. What I want is it to
do nothing and execute the onclick handler.
Now I have two possible solutions:
- Replace the # with javascript:... and remove the onclick handler.
- Replace the A HREF by a SPAN having the same style as a link.
Both however, I've learn it isn't good practice to use javascript: in a
link. The SPAN as link would be a sort of Sim-HREF, which will probably
end up being trouble (span:hover anyone?). Anyone has a viable solution,
cause I must be missing something.
I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:
function show_video1(){
document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block";
var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)";
document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none";
[Code]...
and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.
Ok, so I've built a member search using ajax to change the results each time a filter is changed. It works great, except one minor issue that I'm struggling with...I just can't specify dynamically in the parent file that linkclass$id opens linkclasscontent$id as I don't know of any way to pass that $id variable back over to the parent.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm not really sure how to explain this, since I know nothing about javascript, so i'll try and illustrate by the use of php (hope it makes sence)
I have a set of different links, like:
<a href="link.com?page=text1">text 1</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text2">text 2</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text3">text 3</a>
etc, where page is dynamic and can be anything I chose..
Another place in the same document, I echo out what the page variable is, like:
echo "$page";
so when clicking "text 1" the echo will output what i've defined the page to be, in this case "text1" ..
So I want to be able to click the links and change the output of the echo all depending on what i've defined in the link - without refreshing the page!
Is there any easy way to do this?
a.) specify two parameters for the changeYear function: today and holiday.
function changeYear(today)(holiday){
b.) in the first line of the above function, use the getFullYear() date method to extract the 4-digit value from the today variable and store the value in a variable named year.
first line
c.) in the second line; use the setFullYear() date method to set the full year of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
second line
d.) in the third line, use a conditional operator on the year variable. The test condition is whether the value of the holiday date object is less than the today date object. If it is, this means that the event has already passed in the current year and the value of the year variable should be increased by 1.
third line
e.) in the fourth line of the function, again set the full year value of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.

I am simply trying to use a global variable in javascript, but can only access the variable on the second call. I can't find anything that relates to this through my searches. My application is supposed to query the server for XML that tells me which years and months are available to put into combo boxes. I want to store this xml in a global variable to access it later.

I start outside of the external JS file by: reviews.init(); reviews.initialiseContent('comment'); This loads my data and loads + sets the comment tab as default. My problem is that in the external JS file (shown below) the loadTabs variable will not allow me to pass it a variable: contentDiv.onclick = this.initialiseContent; Whenever I pass a variable here it errors, am I setting this up correctly, should I be using prototype for my this. variables? Interested to hear back on if this structure of code is the right way to go about this and also how I can pass a variable in this way :)

I have a programing problem that have been around for ages. I have search on google using several expressions and words and after hours of digging i'm still unable to do it.I would like to get a value from a HTML page hosted remotely with an inconstant value. Then define this value and name as a javascript variable and apply or show in my page.P.S. Is there any way to make a domain lookup in javascript? I mean a user enters a domain and the script converts to an ip and shows to the user. If not thanks, probably it can only be done in the server side...
View 6 Replies View RelatedCan someone help me on this little problem. I am using the following
code in an xsl page.
The directed page is written in the javascript: submitOnClick();
<a href="#">
<xsl:attribute name="onClick">submitOnClick();</xsl:attribute>
Main Menu
</a>
The problem is that when href is given the # sign, the moment i click
on the link it first jumps to the top of the page, before moving to
the directed page.
This can be seen when the page is longer than the screen size.
Is there any other solution to rectify that problem ..........
