Two Not Equal Comparisons In An OR Condition?
Nov 5, 2009Could anyone tell me (or link me to some place that can) why the following if-statement will execute?
if (5!=6 || 7!=8) {
alert("Why does this work?");
}

I have a small textfield input and submit button. The user is required to input the prefix of their UK postcode and a dialogue boxpopsup saying basically yes or no. My problem is I have an array of postcodes, but if for example someone in Liverpool entered their postcode as L1 1AA, it would say 'yes' but if their mate who enterd in L12 1AA, it would still say 'yes' but it should say 'no'. L1 should be true and L12 should be false. Also to mix things up a bit. I have now been asked to creat a third 'if',if a user enters a code of JE (and then any suffix after ie. 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.), could this be made to say 'unavailable' or some sort.

It sorts on the day and month but does not sort on the Year
for ex.
if I sort on the date i get the following results: (mm/dd/yyyy)
01/03/2004
01/04/2004
01/05/2003
01/06/2003

was wondering if it made sense to optimize the comparison order inside an if() statement if one of the comparison targets is a function call eg:
var a = true,
b = function() {return false;};
if (b() || a) {...}
if (a || b()) {...}
would the second statement run faster because it would theoretically never need to call b() in this situation? can the eval order be relied on? does this depend on the js engine/internal optimizations?
i need to take the height of a div named #main and add that height to another div named .sidebar.I'm new to this kind of stuff, but whould it be possible to do this with jquery, if so, how?

Here is the code I am working with:

As you can probably see I am trying to set the start point of a jquery carousel to equal a variable that I have created. You can see I have tried " start: secondstartpoint", but this isn't working. I think possibly because the way the plugin is formatted so that the "start" option can only equal a number.

It seems to be working, but I'm not sure if it's correct coding.
Javascript variables are loosely typed: the conversion between a
string and a number happens automatically. Since plus (+) is also
used as in string concatenation, `` Ƈ' + 1 '' is equal to `` ཇ' '': the
String deciding what + does. To overcome this, first convert the
string to a number. For example:
I'm trying to make a nice register script, and I came on this site:[URL].. It gave me a nice check for names and email, but I'd like to use it for my passwords too! (normal and confirmation password). Is it possible to send multiple variables at once to the file, and use them? This is what i've got now: (sorry, can't find out how to type beneath the code tags.)

I am working on a multiplication table and it is suppose to allow you to enter a value, and then if the value is correct, the text color will turn green, if it is incorrect the value will turn red, it isn't doing anything, I am not that good in programming with Javascript, so I think it's probably something with my code, all the elements are named properly the are all input fields.

{
if(document.getElementsByName("math_"+n.toString()+"t"+s.toString()).value == s * n)

Basically, I am asked to set fixed height on a group of tabs. The tab that has maximum text will set the height for the rest of the tabs. The simplified version of the code looks like below:
<ul>
<li><a href="">Tab 1</a></li>
<li><a href="">Tab 2</a></li>
<li><a href="">Tab 3</a></li>
</ul>
Taking this example, I want to set the fixed height for <a> tag.
Ive attached a screen shot of the type of layout I have. I have two columns, the left column is straight forward single div, but the right may have up to three divs inside of it (there is an outer div called right-col which I forgot to shade in which wraps around div box1 and 2), and I would like the last div to extend so it is the same size as the div on the left (similarly, if the content on the right was longer then the left, then I would want the left div to expand). Ive attached a screenshot of what I mean. There are loads of plugins, that show you how to make two/three columns equal heights, but I have not found anything to show me how to make two columns in a div equal height to another whole column - hope that makes sense.

I figured out the one question but I am thinking the code below would get into an endless loop if two items to sort were equal because it never returns a 0 to alert the javascript sort function that the two items are equal... Is this correct?
The code ...
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#ascending').click(function() {
SORTER.sort('.sortable');
});
$('#descending').click(function() {
SORTER.sort('.sortable', 'desc');
});
});
var SORTER = {};
SORTER.sort = function(which, dir) {
SORTER.dir = (dir == "desc") ? -1 : 1;
$(which).each(function() {
// Find the list items and sort them
var sorted = $(this).find("> li").sort(function(a, b) {
return $(a).text().toLowerCase() > $(b).text().toLowerCase() ? SORTER.dir : -SORTER.dir;
});
$(this).append(sorted);
});
};
I'm using a script to convert record tables in an HTML file to be client-side sortable by associating title columns with sort events.
It works fine when sorting by last name, except for those which start with a lowercase letter (van, de, etc.). I understand ASCII considers uppercase before lowercase letters, so is there an easy fix to this?
Below is my code, please ignor the comments etc. its very basic. i have a set of data in a var. i am displaying the highest value in that set of data. however one of my sets of data the highest value has 2 occurancies so i want to display both. atm it just displays the first occurance of the highest value and then stops as opposed to all occurances. if you run my script you will see what i mean.

Is it possible to make a file insertion conditional? I now have the code:
'<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.site.com/showit.js">'
And I wondered if it is possible to make this conditional, something like:
if (mycondition==true) include('http://www.site.com/showit.js');
if (form.interface_template.options.length > 0) {
template =
form.interface_template.options[form.interface_template.selectedIndex].value
} else {
template = ''
}
I want to write an if / then statement and have tried using this:
var MyVarMailto;
if (Request.Form("LoanRequest") == "Under $250,000") {
if (Request.Form("Organization") == "1") {
MyVarMailto = "emailA@address.com";
}
}
else if (Request.Form("LoanRequest") == "Over $250,000") {
if (Request.Form("Organization") == "1") {
MyVarMailto = "emailB@address.com";
}
}
else {
MyVarMailto = "emailC@address.com";
}
So basically I have a form that gets filled out and submitted which
passes the values to this page. I want to check the values against
conditions that you can probably figure out above and then set the
variable contigent to those values. I tried using AND after the first
condition but that doesn't do anything.
I have an table in which an select box like this:
Following have an option in OS: windows/Linux. i only want when user select OS - linux ... then function call otherwise if user select OS - window ... no need to call this function validate() i think it requires if condition in function Validate().... how it is posible to put if condition in function validate()
Currently have a txt input with default value="Your Name". with the on focus event to clear default text.
However if a user doesn't touch the txt box the the script goes on to validate the email box below because we have "Your Name" loaded up. and that passes validation below.
How do I go about adding another condition to look for string "Your Name" to the following if statement.
I tried adding another "||" statement after value.length <2 part and got nowhere.
function checkmailform(){
if ( (document.forms.newsletterform.Name.value == null) || (document.forms.newsletterform.Name.value.length < 2) ) {alert("Input First NewsName");
document.forms.newsletterform.Name.focus();
return false;
}else{...
