I am allowing users to upload images using an input with a type of file. Ideally what I'd like to do is use Javascript to get the size of the image that their trying to upload and to error if the image is too large.I'm using php to resize the image, but I'd like to warn the user before they submit the form, so they don't have to go back and start again.
So I'm trying to create a custom file uploader which will display the name of the file selected, but since I can't seem to figure out how to do this I've settled for checking to see if a file has been selected, but I'm still having trouble with it.Here's what I have...
However the value doesn't change after the file has been selected. Could someone tell me a means of modifying this so that it will properly display once the file has been uploaded? Do I need to have some sort of constant refresh on the Javascript to check to see if the value has been changed?
I would like to create a script that behaves differently according to the date it was uploaded to the webserver. Meaning - if I send the script to my friends and each one uploads it to his server on a different date - each one will get a different behavior.

I am using uploadify (a jQuery plugin) to upload files as I am adding clients to my DB. I would like to attach files to clients. The issue #1 is that the client is a new client so it has not been added to the DB just yet. I have overcome this by getting the next Client_ID in the DB.
NOW the real issue is that all files that are uploaded should be prepended with this ID...something like: (29) ---i would like the parenthesis as an added open and close of the client_ID----I have searched on stackoverflow and uploadify.com but can't make heads or tails on how to do this.

I would like to be able to delete an uploaded image file whenever a PHP page is navigated away from, either by the use of buttons on the page or the browser arrows.

I have a PHP script for uploading and cropping an image file, this file is selected by a form that calls the cropping script.
In the form there are buttons to Crop, Load File and Exit.
The Crop button starts the cropping process and finishes by deleting the original file.
I am a total newbie, but am trying to get my feet wet by adding some JavaScripts into/onto my website that I am creating. I am trying to have people "upload a file" which will then take them to my order page where it will tell them how many words their "file" has, then in the background divide the number of words by 350 for the page count then multiply by my price per page, then display their cost of their job? I seen one like that on another website [URL].. but cannot figure out how they did it. I'd like to be able to put this at the top of my order page where after they see the cost, they would fill in their own info (which I know how to do) and then submit the whole thing along with payment.

Is there a way by which I can validate in javascript whether the file I'm trying to upload is an existant one(i.e., one which is present in my local folder).
I have used this script for multiple upload using one file control. In this i have give limit for upto 3 times user can upload. also user can remove which is uploaded. But main problem is when user remove last uploaded file than its ok but when user remove first uploaded file and then add new file that time user can upload more than 3 files? Whats the problem I can`t found.

I developed a web application and it is working fine, except for one issue. The application includes uploading files from a JSP to my servlet, and the issue is that i would like to have a limit for the uploaded files on the client side (before actually uploading it).
I investigated alot and found some ways like changing my JSPs to PHPs, which is not feasable for my application. I would also like to add that using the Flash component ("<object>") for uploading is not feasable also at this time. Using ActiveX does not work also (for some security issues in javascript, it can not access the system information, also ActiveX works only on IE).
I would like to add that I have my application running on Oracle application Server, JSPs for displaying the forms, MultiPart Java API for getting the form input values and files to my servlet and everything is developed in JAVA.
Either by limiting the file size or the limiting the whole request size sent to the servlet.
I'm trying to put in place a file upload validation check. So at the client-side, the User selects a file. Before uploading, at the GUI, if the file exceeds an imposed limit, it will prompt the User that it exceeds the permitted size for upload.
And if it is within the permitted size, the full file path of the file to be uploaded will then be obtained and then used for the actual upload to the Server.
My program is built on EXTJS and Java, running using Tomcat. Browser restricted to Internet Explorer 7 only.
I have a form with three Input File form objects in which the user can add image files. But I am worried about the problems these controls can lead, because to check the file size the server needs to receive the entire file, so serious problems may happen, for example:
1. Malicious user trying to collapse the website sending big files.
2. Users that have not seen the warning “Maximum size: 100 KB� for each image, and try to send three image files consisting in 1,5 MB each one. These users will have a bad experience waiting one hour or more to upload the images, and after that receive an alert saying “Oooops! Your image files are too big.� And also, web server will waste an important amount of resources. The same case with 100 users at the same time can be a nightmare!
I have been searching a way to check the file size on client side without having to force user to install anything, but I think that there isn’ t nothing to do with javascript. But I found an interesting PHP article that explains a way to do it with this server side language. The technique consists in:

I have developed an upload tool, that allows users to upload files (funny that). The asp form object has a 'SizeLimit' property that can be set, to prevent files being uploaded, that are too large. Is there a way in Javascript, to interrogate the file size before the form is posted, so that the validation can be done before trying to post the form.
The only information I can find, on file size, relates to images. But any file can be uploaded through this tool, so I also need to determine the size of other binary and text files.
I know there are restrictions on the client side in this regard, but thought I would ask. Can you determine a files size on the client? I purchased one of those upload to server applications. But I do not want to send large files. Their application only allows me check the side after sending the file to the server (after the fact). I need to know the size before hand. Just like validating text in a textbox before submission, I want to check the file size on the client before submission. Is there any way to do this on the client?

If the user trying to upload a file size bigger than some value say 5MB, i want to give mesage to the user. I don't want to wait till the file gets uploaded to server and then validate the file size. I am looking for client side validation. Can it be done using scripting language or any other way?
Need a solution for this in Internet Explorer. I got a solution using ActiveX control:

I want to do a check on whether the broswer has finished loading the jpeg before showing the jpeg file to the user. I wish to replace the jpeg with a loading progress bar gif image. How can i start off doing this script?
