Setting Cursor Selection To Replicate Same Effect?
Nov 10, 2011
I'm trying to create a function sort of like the ctrl+f function in IE, where you click 'next' and certain words on the page are highlighted (by selecting them with the cursor). This is all well and good for inputs and textareas, however for text in simple text nodes...
Code:
<span class=highlight> bob </span>
I can't get this to work - as 'createTextRange()' isn't a valid operation on text nodes. Is this something you can do in JS (specifically IE)? Alternatively, is it possible to 'focus' on a text node, causing the scrollbar to move so the user can see it on the page (and I'd highlight it with CSS, to replicate the same effect)?

How can I set a busy cursor for my whole page rather than just for a link?
My page calls another page with form arguments that does some processing
then changes the values on the calling page. It takes about 4 seconds so I
would like there to be some indication that processing is going on. Thanks!

how can i fix this to work correctly in ie7 (and preferably ie6)this is what's supposed to happen: in a text field, as a uk postcode is typed in, once the user has typed in enough to know where the space in the postcode should be it's being placed in there for them automatically.

I'm looking for a function that I can use which will do the following when the mouse cursor is in a textarea:
know which textarea to work with based on current cursor position (not sure if this possible, couldn't find examples) - i.e. just 1 'Bold' button to operate on multiple textareas.
insert tag or tags (i.e. ,[image]) at cursor position, if text is selected then insert tags around text selection.

I've got the following code snippet in a function to set a coockie based on whether or not the user selects a checkbox. Using an alert the cookie text looks fine but when I go to retrieve the values the only one it can find is the value for user. I've a few different things and none of them seem to work. I'm getting the same thing in both IE and Firefox. The only cookie listed is the 'user' with the proper expiration date. Code:

I'm not too familiar with javascript and usually do most of my animation/linking with flash. However my client does not want flash because it can't be displayed on the iPhone. If you go here: [URL]. You will see a menu on the left that starts to scroll through the buttons while showing different images on the right. But if you hover over any button it stops on that image. The buttons are then linked to individual pages. I attempted to try and replicate this technique here: [URL]. However I am not sure how to write or modify my script so that it scrolls through the photos like my flash version does.

I am looking to replicate the way the images are shown at the top of this page: [url]
I like the way the images overlap 1 another, and when you click one the other moves aside.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any jquery scripts that are similar to this?

What makes this easy is I'm trying to replicate an existing website: BT's Personal Site
The menu of Packages / Phone, etc is very nice. Not only does the menu auto scroll, but also reacts to mouseover in a lovely manner (thereafter going back to auto scroll if there is no user input).
I've spent the afternoon going through all of JQuery's plugin library but I couldn't find something similar. I found individual scripts that I could use to mirror the auto rotate, but that meant integrating the rollover wouldn't work. Anyone got ideas on how to implement this?
A pre-existing script would be great if there is one(!) Otherwise, real simple advice as I'm a bit of a noob to jQuery. If there is no pre-existing script or the alterations will take a bit of effort, I'm happy to compensate if there is an expert for hire (depending on rates obviously!)

All other browsers work fine, but IE 9 flickers on the rotating gallery on this dev site..This is the JS function primarily responsible for it.
Code:
this.fadeRotate = function(currentItem,className,firstTime){
var moduleClass = document.getElementsByClassName(className);
var moduleItemCount = moduleClass.length;
if(moduleItemCount != 1){
[Code]...
To narrow it down more, it only seems to happen when you mouse in and out of certain divs.

I have a question, I'm developing my own LightBox with jQuery, and I call 2 function, animate and fadeIn and both of them work with the same element, fadeIn also with 2 elements more, but this isn't problem. And fadeIn I call before animate and here is the issue, it starts animate this element by fadeIn and after it is done, start function animate. But in second part, I call it again, and the element, which I animate in both of them, can't animate by fadeIn because he is visible, so immediately start function animate.

I have a problem changing the cursor type with javascript. I have a
button with an mouseover effect (change of color and cursor type). It
works fine in Netscape 7.x and IE 6.x but not in IE 5.5 I'm using the
following script:
function change(element,mode) {
if (mode=="in") {
cursortype = 'pointer'
colorval = '#FF491B'
} else if (mode=="out") {
cursortype = ''
colorval = '#F47240'
}
element.style.cursor=cursortype;
element.style.background=colorval;
}
The error I'm getting with IE 5.5 is "cursor type not defined..." or
something but the pointer is supposed to work even with IE 4.x
Does anybody has a solution for this problem?

I'm writing some stuff where I wish to allow the cursor keys to control
elements in a page. This has not been a problem except with Safari
which appears to duplicate the keydown and keyup events which are fired
when the cursor keys are pressed. I.e. pressing and releasing say, K,
results in one keydown event followed by one keyup event. Press any of
the cursor keys results in two keydown events followed by two keyup
events.....
