OK so Ive been using jquery for a little bit now and love it. I am a ColdFusion developer. I have a need where I would like to present the user with a list of categories and the user can drag and drop to sort, but then I need to post this new sort order to the database. So I see there are a ton of cool drag & drop plugins for jquery. I understand how they work and I can get it to work as far as spitting out DIVS or spitting out ULs that can be sorted, but then what? So now they are sorted on my screen and not really part of the form. How do I translate that into something I can do a post to the database with? Do I do an AJAX call every time they drop an item and try to extrapolate the sort order on that item after they drop it? Do I populate a hidden form field with the constantly updating sort order list? MAybe a list of ID's? How does everyone else go about this this task? I'm sure there is more than one way and I'm sure this is a common task.

When you hover over the parent page and the child pages show up, they go away when you start to scroll down. Any idea of a fix?The script is below. I have it sitting in its own js file within my Wordpress theme.

I am running a client side javascript timer to periodically refresh the
contents of some tables in the HTML page. The table values are
dynmically binded from XML DOM object using the <XML tag in HTML>. The
data is getting updated properly. but whenever the value is refreshed,
the HTML page flickers. How do i avoid this flickering.. Code:
I haven't been able to pinpoint why my Flickr badge (a javascript tool) causes my page to "flicker" when it's loaded (I've tested Opera and IE, as well - and neither of them have the same problem). It's definitely related to the way I've got my css and JavaScript set up on the page, but I can't pinpoint the problem. This is the second Flickr badge problem that I've run up against.

I think it's popping back and forth between "position: fixed" and "position: static" every other scroll.
This happened before I added the else statement.
A live example is at: [URL]
I have this tooltip that shows up when you enter a list item with your mouse. The tooltip is partly placed on top of the list item, so it makes sense that if you move your mouse off the list and onto the tooltip itself the tooltip dissapears. It actually starts to flicker because when the tooltip is gone, your mouse placed on the list item and the tooltip shows up again which ends up in a loop. I understand why it flickers, but I don't really know how to prevent that from happening.
The script I use simply says:
$(elem).mouseenter(function() {
show tooltip
}).mouseleave(function() {
hide toolip
});
You can see what I mean if you hover over the small white block in the middel of the page. The purple border is the edge of the tooltip. When you cross that purple border the trouble starts. [URL]. How could I prevent this flickering from happening?
I have created a floating layer using Javascript that remains always on top of page on scrolling.Issue is,at some point while scrolling,the layer flickers continuously.
The html page is as follows:
Many common software systems, JavaScript has a history of security problems. Many of these problems could allow a person with malevolent intent to steal sensitive information from a visitor. The number and type of such holes in security vary among browsers and operating system versions. Most JavaScript security holes have been caught and fixed, but new ones are being discovered all the time. For a list of current security holes check out your browser's and operating system's Web pages. As a Web site author, it is your responsibility to keep up-to-date on the current status of known security holes in the applications you create.
Signing Scripts. In Chapter 11, I explained that JavaScript does not provide the ability to directly access files on the client computer. This can be a very large hurdle to overcome if you're trying to upload a file to a server from the client computer. Fortunately, file uploading is one of many functional enhancements that signed scripts provide. Signed scripts are specially packaged scripts that have been verified and signed to be correct and non-threatening. These scripts have additional rights on the client computer that allow a programmer to do many things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to.
With the introduction of Netscape 4.0, a new security model was put in place that would allow digitally signed scripts to bypass some of the restrictions that had previously been placed on them. A signed script can request expanded privileges from the visitor and, with the visitor's permission, gain access to restricted data. A signed script requests these additional permissions through LiveConnect, which allows your JavaScript code to communicate with the Java Capabilities API. The security model allows JavaScript to access certain classes in Java in order to extend its functionality while still maintaining tight security for the client.
A digital signature is a fingerprint of the original programmer, and it allows the security model of the browser to detect where (or from whom) it originated. A script signer can be a person or an organization. By signing a script, you acknowledge yourself as the author and accept responsibility for the program's actions. A signed script contains a cryptographic checksum, which is just a special value that ensures the signed script has not been changed. When a digital signature is detected, you are assured that the code has not been tampered with since the programmer signed it.
Once you finish writing a script, you can use the Netscape Signing Tool to digitally sign it. Signing a script does the following:
Unambiguously assigns ownership of the script to a person or organization.
Allows an HTML page to use multiple signed scripts.
Places the signed script into a Java Archive (JAR) file.
Places the source of the script in the JAR file.
Once a user confirms the origin of the script and is assured that it has not been tampered with since its signing, he or she can then decide whether to grant the privileges requested by the script based on the validated identity of the certificate owner and validated integrity of the script.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright, I have a problem killing a cookie. I'm able to succesfully create a cookie with php (or rather several cookies). If it matters, heres the code:
setcookie("loggedin", "true", $inTwoMonths, "/testzone/", "excalo.com");
setcookie("username", $unames[$i], $inTwoMonths, "/testzone/", "excalo.com");
setcookie("password", $passes[$i], $inTwoMonths, "/testzone/", "excalo.com");
The files are in a folder called testzone in excalo.com.
I need to delete them (that is, the cookies) with javascript. Interestingly, when I run the same files without the "/testzone/" in my main directory, everything is fine and dandy. When I run them in the testzone folder, it doesn't work. FF/Firebug aren't giving me errors. Neither is PHP. Here's the javascript: Code:
I've been trying for the last few weeks(on and off, mind you) to get this piece of code working, but to no avail.
My problem is small, but all the solutions I have tried dont seem to work.
I've googled the life out of it and got a lot of different scripts which are supposed to set the expiry date in the past and the cookie disappears.....
But none of these worked, so this is what I am left with: Code:
My table had the following layout.
Code:
After clicking an add rows button, the two rows are cloned and appended as follows with a checkbox added as shown.
Code:
I want to be able to delete rows 3&4 by selecting the checkbox in row 3 and clicking a delete rows button. Regardless of how many sets of rows have been previously added, any set of rows can be deleted by selecting the appropriate checkbox(es) and clicking delete button. I'm trying to figure out how this can be done. My thinking is if checkbox is checked, calculate row index. I would then have to call deleteRow twice on that row index. Is there a better way of doing this?
All other browsers work fine, but IE 9 flickers on the rotating gallery on this dev site..This is the JS function primarily responsible for it.
Code:
this.fadeRotate = function(currentItem,className,firstTime){
var moduleClass = document.getElementsByClassName(className);
var moduleItemCount = moduleClass.length;
if(moduleItemCount != 1){

To narrow it down more, it only seems to happen when you mouse in and out of certain divs.

im trying to just delete the last letter on the right side of a textbox. I am trying to do this via onclick for a backspace button. Does anything have code for this or know what i can search for because i come up with nothing everything i try.
This is what i us to add to the textbox:
onclick="document.frmFB.txtFName.value=document.frmFB.txtFName.value + '@'"
And this is what i've tryed to get it to delete the last letter:
onclick="txtFName.Select(txtFName.SelectionStart - 1, 1)"
I've been trying to create a function that creates objects and another function that can delete them when triggered the objects code is generated server side and triggers the function passing the object data. The object data sort of looks like this

I've tried a few methods I looked up but whenever I try to get them to work the way I need them they throw errors... It would be very cool if you could also get it under a div tag.

I have a div that has a negative top margin and a negative right margin. The right margin is because I want to have the div slide onto the page from the right. The top margin is because without it my page height is the height of the visible elements plus the height of the off-screen div.On a button click, I move the div down and then animate it onto the screen from the right. On button click again, I animate the div to the right, off the screen, and then move it up. I also toggle its width & padding so it will appear to grow/shrink as it moves on/off screen. At least that's what I am trying to do. I have a form that has several disabled text fields. In these text
fields, I have initial values. Next to each text field lies a "copy"
button. When clicked, the content of the disabled text field is
appended to the content of another textfield, the only one that isn't
disabled (therefore the user can copy content from the other text
fields, and also add what they want). I also have a remove button,
which clears the content of that one non-disabled text field.
Pretty easy so far.
Here's the problem. Imagine I copy the content from textfield 1 into
the blank text field, then do the same for textfield 2 and 3.
Between each "insert", I've added a comma. So the non-disabled
(active) text field would have the following content:
content1, content2, content3,
Now say that the user wants to remove content2, without removing the
rest, how could I go about doing this?
I have this dynamically created table in my one of my php forms
that shows the names of the people the user has entered into a text
field. When they hit add a row displays, showing the name they entered.
Also, an image that allows them to delete shows beside the name upon
creation.
The delete removes the name from the table and pushes the
other names to the top. Simple stuff, however, if I delete the last
name displayed(the bottom of the table), then the next, then the next,
IN ORDER, I have no problems. If I pick a name that is in the middle or
top of the table, everything below does not allow me to delete Code:
$(document).ready(function () {
var EmailXml = "<Set>";
EmailXml += "<Email>"
EmailXml +="<Type>0</Type>";
EmailXml +="<Addr>amol@gmail.com</Addr>";
[Code].....
Now I am trying to delete a node directly from above EmailXml , though it is possible with above code when case matches with my Type, I can do some string operations and get the result. But is there any other method which removes the node directly ?
