Safari - JavaScript Frames/Links Issue
Oct 10, 2006
I have a DHTML Folder Tree, also known as a TreeView. That is, an expandable/collapsible tree of links. In a frame-less layout everything works great. In a frame-based layout, it doesn't work on Safari/Konqueror.
There are two frames: the left frame contains the tree control; when you click on a link in the tree, the right frame is the target for the links in the tree.
The tree mechanism itself works fine. But there is a problem with the links. What happens on Safari/Konqueror with the frame-based layout is the first link works fine, but all links after that do not. That is, the first click loads a picture on the right frame, but when I click on any other links after that, the target frame is not updated.

I have a Web page with two frames.
The left frame has a DHTML-generated tree of links (to images). The
right frame displays the image link you click in the tree of links.
It works great on all browsers except Konqueror/Safari, where it
displays the first image link you click on in the tree of links. But
then subsequent clicks on other links do nothing.
That is, the first time you click on a DHTML-generated link,
Konqueror/Safari loads the corresponding image in the other frame.
However, after that, when you click on links, the other frame is not
updated.
Do you know why this happens?

I am new to jquery, and love it so far, but I am more of a designer, not a developer. I am learning jquery to enhance my sites, and I am having a problem figuring out buttons.
I have them working in firefox and safari, but in IE links do not work.
Here is the script I have, and the button code.

What is the correct way to format the URL of this script so that it refreshes a page in a different frame to the #top.
i.e. not the frame that has this script in it.
ESSENTIALLY what I want here is a hyperlink that refreshes a DIFFERENT Frame to the #top. -- possible?

I built my portfolio with Dreamweaver MX. In the bottom frame, I have thumbnails of images. When you click on a thumbnail, it is supposed to load the full size image in a targeted part of the top frame. It works fine in Explorer and Safari, but not in Firefox.
The address is http://www.justmyname.com/portfolio
If anyone has any suggestions on why it isn't working....

Been trying to add an image before the closing of the anchor tag:
<body>
<a href="http://www.test.com/">http://www.test.com/</a>
</body>
If I use:
$("a").append("<img src='testimage.png' /");
No image will appear in WebKit (Chrome, Safari, etc). Firefox and IE works fine.

I am pretty new to Javascript and have only created a few pretty basic scripts, mainly dealing with site navigation and mouseovers. I would like now to redo my private home page using a rather complex configuration of frames. It is my intention to use JavaScript (variables) to control the rather intricate page navigation.
My question is this. I know how to define a variable, increment or otherwise alter it's value and how to change a process path based on the value of a variable. I have done all of this within the SAME page. What I would like to know more about is the referencing and modification of variables in "pages" in other windows within a frameset.

There are tons of examples how to break out of frames with Javascript and I thought you couldn't do it without Javascript.
But YAHOO! does it! If you place www.yahoo.com inside an iframe and click on an item in the Navigation (say Autos) it breaks out of the frame even if Javascript is disabled in the browser. Works for both IE and Firefox.
The page redirects with a Location header a couple of times, but I tested that and it's not what is causing it to break out. To test simply create an html file on your desktop with the following contents: Code:

I try to print out five hidden frames throug a printing-form. I use
the frame.focus() and the frame.print() functions. Everything is fine
except the following little disadvantage:
When I print out the five frames, the print window dialog appears five
time (for each frame once). The user has to confirm his standard
printer several times.
Do anyone know, how I can prevent this?

I have a page with two frames, 'header' and 'main'. The following
code works in Netscape, but in Internet Explorer. The second bgColor
line produces an error:
function test(){
top.frames.header.document.bgColor='white' //works fine
top.frames.main.document.bgColor='white' //fails

I am designing a website for disabled football supporters and because
of this, I obviously must consider accessibility to blind users whilst
I am producing it - as they are one of the disability groups that I am
targeting the page at.
The page basically consists of two frames; one being a vertical list
of links positioned on the left hand side of the screen and the other
being the main content pane, positioned in the remaining area of the
screen on the right of the first frame. The first frame is used to
drive the content of the second frame.
Now, I'm not sure if this is possible in JavaScript, or indeed in
another scripting language, but what I want to do is to be able to
alter the current focus or caret? on a web page when a link is
clicked. That is, when the user selects a link from the left hand
frame, then the new content is loaded into the right and the current
focus jumps straight to this new information, as opposed to having to
tab through all the same links again in order to put the focus there.
I know this is only a fiddly little thing but it is something that
would really improve the usability of the site, especially with screen
readers in mind.

I am simply trying to set a field value on a form.
e.g. document.form1.stockLevel.value = 99;
This works on all browsers PC & Mac, with the exception of Safari browser on a MAC.
Tried all alternatives:
document.all.stockLevel.value = 99;
document.forms['form1'].stocklevel.value = 99;
.......etc etc
None of these work on the damn safari browser.
Anyone any ideas?

I am using Regular Expressions and Javascript to validate a form,
specifically I want to make sure that if they try to upload a file that
it has a proper name w/ certain extensions (doc,pdf, rtf). The script
works on IE and Mozilla but fails on Safari on the MacOSX. Here is my
code..
// ok files with proper extension
var reOKFiles = /^([a-zA-Z].*|[1-9].*).(doc|DOC|pdf|PDF|rtf|RTF)$/;
//where i check for the file...
if(window.document.myForm.myDocument.value != ""){
var fileStr = window.document.myForm.myDocument.value;
if(!reOKFiles.test(fileStr)){
alert("Please try again, you tried to upload an invalid file type
for CRITERIA 1");
window.document.myForm.myDocument.focus();
return (false);

I have some very strange problem on the Mac (OS-X) with the Safari
browser 1.0 (v85). Some information in my form was not filled in...
after I turned on debugging and checked the console it displayed some
error messages.
The messages displayed were like:
(event handler): value undefined (result of expression trim) is not
object. Cannot be called.
I have no idea what this means!!! Does anyone know where to find the
solution for this problem? The page works fine on Windows with IE (and
probably some more browsers).
The trim function is located in an exteral javascript file which is
referenced in the head of the html. Code:

I am looking for a method to extract the links embedded within the
Javascript in a web page: an ActiveX component, or example code in
C++/Pascal/etc. I am looking for a general solution, not one tailored
to a particular page/script.
Hopefully, the problem can be solved without recreating a complete
Javascript interpreter. Any ideas?

I'm using input hidden control's value in the javascript function.
same code is working fine on all other browser except a specific
version of safari(i.e.: MAC OS 10.3.7 and Safari 1.2.4).
problem:
control's value is not getting displaying at the first time
when the page gets load, although the same piece of code would work if
I just refresh the page, strage.
declaration of hidden control:
<INPUT id="hSliders" type="hidden" runat="server">
javascript code which is calling the value of hSliders:
alert(document.Form1.hSliders.value)
this alert is showing nothing although it should display string.
i check the view source also control's value is getting populated.

I need to be able to add a "Click to buy" link in the actual popup image which will divert them to my order system. It has to be done this way so I know which image they have ordered.
I'd like to add the image in the bottom left section where you can put an image description.

i understand that it is possible to include external js links by:
<script language='JavaScript' src='../templates/gill.js'></script>
but inside this gill.js javascript itself, is it possible to add yet another external js that is in the same folder by:
<script language='JavaScript' src='../templates/gill.js'></script>
or
<script language='JavaScript' src='bottom.js'></script>
i suppose both should have work correctly but only the first one works but not the way it should. Is my code wrong or how should i correct it?
