Setting and using a session cookie works everywhere else - Mac, PC, IE, FF, etc. - everywhere except with MS Vista running on the machine. I'm not sure what the problem is and a Google search didn't reveal much.

let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. [URL]... I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works.

I am trying to setup a javascript function that sets a div's width based on the combined width of the li's with the name "navItem". The problems I have been running into when trying to define the width of the li's is that they do not have a width defined in css. Can anyone help me out with this? The javascript function setWindow is suppose to show the div loginWindow and set the width of it.

But...The images are different widths, so both wrappers are set to the width of the first image. Without having to add an ID to each wrapper or image, can the wrapper width be set to the image width using the name of the image as the unique identifier?

I have written a web page to create XML from user input. The user inputs a series of values, and these are turned into XML using javascript. The way I have done this is to load in a template XML file using an XMLHTTPrequest and append childNodes to it as required. Thus, what I end up with is a variable called "xmldoc" which is an XML document object. (If I do write(xmldoc) the answer I get is [object XMLDocument].)What I would like to do is to be able to save the thing as an xml file. To this end I have been trying to POST it to a php file that might do this, but to no avail; the php file does not seem to recognise it as an XML DOM object.

I'm pretty proficient at PHP so the site was mostly coded in PHP, but now I've decided it would be best use Ajax to update the mySQL database instead of PHP so my pages don't have to refresh every time a change is made.Are there any references that you know of that could help me out in the conversion process?Most of my PHP scripts POST back to themselves and I use if(isset($_POST)) to update the info on the mySQL database. I first load a page with a session genterated. But since AJAX is a

I'm just beginning with JavaScript (and Ajax). My loginscript now works with Ajax - that is; the script is sending a request to the servers PHP script to check username and password, but I wonder what that script should return - and how to use that response. Either XML or pure text: The response is now "false" if the user couldn't log in for some reason, and the users ID and real name if the login went well...
But then the problem: if login IS ok - so that the users ID and real name is returned from the serverscript - I would like to store those variables in a session variable ($_SESSION in PHP). How do I get those variables back to the client script from JavaScript?

and readonly text boxes. Dynamic calculations are done on change of a
value in one of the drop down select lists.
For my first iteration the script works fine ( indicating that there
are 33 form variables ). When trying another dropdown select value, the
form elements.length is shown as 33 ( as about ) BUT the script then
crashes with a 'null value' error. I cannot access any of the form
variables - this works in all other browsers and platforms.
What is the simplest way to gather data from a form enter it into a
server-side html page?
