Popup Window For A Href Not Onclick
Aug 4, 2009
how I can have a popup window appear centred with scrollbars? The width and height must be changed for each popup. I need the popup window link to be placed in a href not as onclick. My client will be placing popup window link into their website via Adobe Contribute, so that is why I am asking for the whole thing not to be onclick.

I am developing an application that is opened via a modal popup from another application that I do not have control over. In IE, the method of creating the popup that holds my application is window.showModalDialog. When I redirect the user via javascript with something as simple as, location.href='someURL'; another popup window is opened rather than just redirecting the browser. When a user is using anything other than IE, the window.open method is used and those browsers redirect within the same window appropriately.

I am having some issues with getting a variable from an onclick event with javascript.
$('#preview_logo').append('<img src="'+fileObj.filePath+'" height="100px" hspace="5" /> '+fileObj.name+' uploaded.<a href="javascript:;" id="dele_image" onclick="del_image('+fileObj.filePath+','+fileObj.name+');">Upload Different Image</a><br>');
This is for uploadify script for previewing an image that is uploaded, it creates the link fine, but won't trigger the function "del_image" unless I delete the parameters in the onclick, which leads me to believe it is something to do with my quoting. Here is the function:

I am creating a send to a friend link on my site. The link will open a pop up window, which contains a form.
I have a function that opens the centered pop up window, and it is called like so (the function declaration resides in an external script):
Code:
onClick="newWindow('http://www.mysite.com/send.php','',âÆ',ò“','')"
I now need to append the current page's URL to the end of the URL ike so:
onClick="newWindow('http://www.mysite.com/send.php?page=xxx','',âÆ',ò“','')"
This is sso that I can then use PHP in the pop up toget the variable from the query string.
I know that I can use location.href to get the current page url, but am not sure how I would include it in the onClick.
I have tried the following:
onClick="newWindow('http://www.mysite.com/send.php?page=location.href','',âÆ',ò“','')"
but that doenst work...
Has anybody got any ideas?

I am trying to dynamically open a popup window but ie8 blocks it with the popup blocker. basically within a ajax fuction I have a confirm button and if the user clicks yes it opens a popup window. now I tried it with a javascript function but it got blocked, so I have tried it by creating a form with a button in it and instead of calling the popup function direct I call document.form.button.click and in the form my button has onclick"popup('<? echo url; ?>')" but this also is detected as a unwarranted popup and is blocked.
now I understand that the popup blocker works when a popup is called without user interaction, but allows popups on say button clicks. how can I get the popup to work

Bascially I output a list of a href hyperlinks on a html page that goes all the way to the bottom of the screen. I wanted to add a onclick event to the a href tag that would pust the user right to the top of the page. I want to achieve this using javascript onclick event.

I have the following code that I use to set the onclick function to top.location.href, but I need a way to extract the existing location.href from the onclick function, so then I can re-purpose it in the new onclick function. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
<script type="text/javascript">
var links = new Array();
links = document.getElementsByTagName("td");
for(var i=0;i<links.length;i++){
var tempfunc = links[i].onclick;
//*****EXTRACT THE URL***** NEED THIS PIECE //
var url = "http://www.sitepoint.com"; //say this is the url you extracted
links[i].onclick=function(){window.top.location.href=url};
}
</script>

I'm trying to setup a page that uses JavaScript in a text link to submit a form:
<a href="do.htm" onclick="javascript:document.forms.Q01.submit();">
I also have added a fallback page in the href (do.htm) in case users have JavaScript disabled. But the JavaScript doesn't seem to be working. When I click the link it always goes to the fallback page, and doesn't submit the form.
I've tried swaping the order in the anchor tag (JS first, href second):
<a onclick="javascript:document.forms.Q01.submit();" href="do.htm">
and the same thing happens.
If I remove the href value:
<a href="#" onclick="javascript:document.forms.Q01.submit();">
the JS does execute properly.
How can I get the JS to execute by default for browsers that support it, and the href be the backup for browsers that dont support it?

I have a few input buttons per page:
<input type="button" value="MyButton" onclick="location='[URL]'">
I want to convert them to:
<a href="[URL]"><span>MyButton</span></a>
How can I convert that with jquery? I try to get the onlick val but jquery or javascript seems to convert onclick to a function. I have this, but it's not quite right, I'm trying to just move the onclick data to the link, but I'd rather do it with href.
$(":button").each(function(){
var ocval = $(this).attr("onclick").val();
$(this).replaceWith("<a class="button" href="javascript:void(0);"
onclick=""+ ocval +""><span>" + $(this).val() + "</span></a>");
});

I am in the process of creating a billboard script for our company front page which will switch between two images. I am using the following script as a base: [URL]
I am eager to learn coding, but am still a novice at it so I was wondering if anyone could assist me with adding the following functionality:
1. Rather than (or perhaps in addition to) having the two images change based on a timer, I'd like to be able to insert a "next" arrow. Therefore I will need assistance in coding a button to change the images from "ad_1" to "ad_2" which is currently done automatically by the interval timer
2. I'd like to make the images clickable with unique destinations (so when you click on "ad_1" it will take you to "link 1", "ad_2" will take you to "link 2"
Below is my current code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

I am looking for a generic javascript function to identify the form with in which a element exists, thus developer can avoid coding like document.forms[index].submit() - where they are sure, they want the form with in which this element exists is to be submitted. This way when forms are introduced at top level the code can remain unchanged, else every form introduce above in the DOM will result in increasing the index by one.
The code is given below. While doing so i am stuck with 2 problems
P1: In the code, you can see i am giving a explicit 'break' in the code. If i don't do so the code seems to be looping. Obviously i am missing some basic.
P2: I am able to pass 'this' for anchor element by name="xy"
<a href="#" name="xy"
in its onclick function by which, in the javascript function i move up the DOM.
While i am unable to do that on the anchor element given below since this function is now on the href attribute.
<a name="xy1" href="javascript:doFormSubmit(this);">Q test</a>
Hence the script fails. Code:

I am using this javascript code to run 'onclick' to change my href class style. It works to change the style, but when I click on the next menu item, the previous one is not reverted back to how it was previously, but the formatting is stripped away leaving the link purple with no background image. How do I get it to revert to the original class which is set?
Here is the javascript :-
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
/*<![CDATA[*/
var Lst;
function CngClass(obj){
if (Lst) Lst.className='';
obj.className='menu1';
Lst=obj;
}
/*]]>*/
</script>
Here is the relevant CSS :-
.menu {
background: url('../images/productblack.jpg') repeat;
width: 100%;
line-height: 24px;
float:left;
display:inline;
font-family: Verdana;
color : #ffffff;
font-size: 8pt;
text-decoration: none;
text-align: left;
font-weight:bold;
} .....
Here is the HTML :-
<div id="masterdiv">
<div onclick="SwitchMenu('sub1')"><a class="menu" onclick="CngClass(this);" href="javascript:nothing()">Â
RESISTORS</a></div>
<span class="submenu" id="sub1">

Can anyone assist me with what I am trying to do with the following
code (six different scenarios to try to make the functionality work
correctly)?
I want to always (and ONLY) display in the status bar 'Symantec
Corporation' whenever anyone mouses over (onMouseOver) my image or
link OR when one clicks while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on
the same image or link. Upon releasing the mouse (onMouseOut), the
status bar should be 'blank'. I need the link to open in a new window
via my function openWindow(URL) code.
What is happening in most of the six scenarios, is that when one
clicks the link, either the function doesn't engage, but rather the <a
href= takes effect instead OR that status bar shows
'javascript:openWindow('http://www.symantec.com/');' when one clicks
while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on the image or link.
Additionally, for only the link, I need the CSS/style to show 'red'
when one mouses over (onMouseOver) it and then change to 'blue' upon
releasing the mouse (onMouseOut).
How about integrating 'style="cursor:hand"' into the code or perhaps
setting some of the data via a <div> or <span> snippet? Code:

I use this code to create a banner that contains text:
<table of banner...
because it makes the whole banner a link. If I do it this way:
<table><tr><td ><a href='http://URL' target='_blank'>text of banner...
only the text is the link and if someone puts their cursor over a non-text area they might no realize they can click on it.
In the second example, however, I use target='_blank' to open up a new window.
My question is, is there a way to use the first method and open a new window.
