Open A Window With A Variable - Refresh Page On Submit Data

Sep 30, 2010

I want to be able to open a window with a variable. For example, I will use domain.com?reference=1234- This link will open a pop up window as follows:

<a href="javascript:popUp('http://www.domain.co.uk/staff/tpr/update_action_log.php?action_reference=<?php echo $row2['action_reference']; ?>')" title="Click Here edit this entry"><?php echo $row2['action_reference']; ?></a>

When I open this window, it is always showing data put in last, it isnt refreshed. I wanted to open this pop up window, enter data and then click submit and make the data enter the database and then refresh the parent window. Every time I have done this, either the parent or the pop (or both) is showing old data.

Way Of Passing Variable From Parent Window To Popup Window

Jun 27, 2002

I need the most efficient way of passing a variable from a parent window to a popup window.The reason i say "most efficient" is because i currently do it like this from the parent:[code]But this is inefficient because at times it randomly alerts "undefinded".Anyways, can someone tell me a more fail safe way to pass a var to a popup so that i will be able to access it 100% correctly.

Open.window() And Passing URL String

Aug 25, 2005

I'm having some problems passing url parameters with an open.window command. I'm not terribly familiar with java script but here is the code below.

When executed it opens the window properly but does not pass the parameter. (this is part of a coldfusion template)

<a href="##"
,'prop1','location,menubar,height=600,width=800,sc rollbars,resizable,toolbar=yes');
return false;"><img src="#trim(photodir)#/#photoname4#" width="90"
height="60" hspace="2" vspace="2" border="2"></a>

Passing Vars To Window.open()?

Feb 23, 2009

I want to pass window size variables to javascript's window.open() function from a flash movie (actionscript) to javascript embedded in an html page. The idea is to generate a pop-up window when the user clicks a button in the flash movie. I've programmed the flash movie button like this:

on (release) {
getURL("javascript:open_win('http://www.mysite.com', winfeatures)"); }

where winfeatures is a string containing the pop-up window options, e.g. width=400,height=300,resizable=1 . I have 'traced' the string to make sure it is formed properly. These variables may change so I don't want to just insert them verbatim as the arguments. They are read from an xml file and made into a string - e.g.

(var winfeatures:String = "width="+myxml.attributes.width+",height="+myxml.attributes.height);

In the html page I have the following javascript:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript>
function open_win(URLtoOpen, windowFeatures) {
newWindow=window.open(URLtoOpen, "myWin", windowFeatures);
}
</SCRIPT>

but it's not working. It seems the windowFeatures isn't being read (or read properly) and the pop-up opens with a default size.

Window.open - Url Variable ?

Jul 23, 2005

Have a textbox in a form which user types in a url link.

When they click a button I'd like it to open a new window,
and attempt to display the link they've typed in the textbox.

I've got the button calling a javascript with onclick,
but I can't get the window that opens to accept the dynamic url.

The textbox name is txtlink.

var thelink = txtlink.value;
testlinkwindow = window.open();

Is there a way to get the variable as the url parameter of open() ?

The other thing I've tried is setting the location.href of the child window,
but that doesn't work either. :-(

eg
testlinkwindow = window.open();
testlinkwindow.location.href= txtlink.value;

Passing Variable From External Function To Php Page?

Dec 15, 2009

I have a function in an external javascript file (calculate.js) which calculates the price of a product, based on a users preferences in a form (dropdowns, radio buttons etc). Each time the user modifies their choice, the script/function then displays the price on the page (index.html) using:

document.getElementById("price").innerHTML = price;

Once the user has finished making their choices, they then click the forms submit button (method="post") to be taken to a confirmation page (confirm.php).

Here, I can display the users preferences using php code like:

<?php echo $_POST['size'] ?>
<?php echo $_POST['color'] ?> etc, etc...

But I'm not sure how to pass the price over!

The preferences come from the form and are picked up with php. But the price is calculated with javascript! How do I send it to confirm.php?

I have tried adding

window.location = "confirm.php?Quote=" + price;

to the function, but this changes the page before the user may want to go to the confirmation page!

Can I add a hidden input to index.html with the value set as the javascript variable called price? If so, what syntax do I use for this? I have tried

document.write('<input type="hidden" name="quote" value="'price'" ?>" />')

and some other stuff too, but I still can't get it to work!

Or do I pass the value in the url, like confirm.php?Quote='price'? Again, what is the syntax, as I can't seem to get it to work?

Open A Window To A Particular Region Of A Page?

Jan 25, 2010

I need to open a window without scrollbars, menus, etc. and a specific size. I believe I have found scripts that can do this. But I also need it to open to specific coordinates of the page. i.e, only displaying the center portion of the page (the page is not mine) and not letting the user move to other portions with scroll bars, nor resize the window.I realiize that hitting tab will usually move them around, but I am not worried about that. They won't know where they are and will just reload.I have basic html skills but not scripting, other than copying/pasting other people's code.
