JQuery :: Update Initializing Variables Onclick And Re-run The Script
May 2, 2010
I run a carousel plugin which has initializing variables on my index page, which looks like:
Now what i need is an onclick event which tells the script to update the variable 'start' to '500' and then re-run the script without a complete page reloading....

You can use JQuery's data method (e.g. $('#MyID').data('MyVar', 'MyValue');) to easily store/retrieve information.
However, I was wondering if it is possible for my PHP generated page to add HTML tags that initialize the JQuery's data method variables. Regularly, I want server side variables to be accessible client side. It would be very helpful if I could initialize data method variables during PHP page generation.
If this is not possible, are there any suggestions on how to efficiently communicate server side variables to client side?

This is probably a really simple question. Is it possible to initialize x amount of variables. Like someone enters 10 into an input box and it makes 10 variables called variable1, variable2, variable3, etc.How would you name them?variable + num = 0; ?

I've always wonder if there is diference when declaring and
initializing a varible inside/outside a loop.
What's a better practice?
Declaring and initializing variables inside a loop routine, like this:
for(var i=0; i<list; i++)
{
var name = list[i];
}
or outside a loop routine, like this:
var i;
var name;
for (i=0; i<list; i++)
{
name = list[i];
}
or are both the same....
As a programmer, i always try to practice good programming. I always
thought that by declaring and initializing the variable inside the
loop, i was creating a new memory space every time instead of just 1
time...
What do you think?

This is my sample code so far. Currently it only works for "Akali" under the "Select a champion..." dropdown list.
The way it works is, you select a level from 1-10 from the "Select a level..." dropdown list, and then you select Akali from the other dropdown list and her "Health" is calculated by "lvl * 80 + 510" which works perfectly. But the problem is if you change the level that value does not update automaticly. Instead the person using it has change the level to the new level they desire, change the champion and change it back again for it to update. Which normally would be ok, but I will be adding much, much more data to the page and I can't ask people to have to update stuff 10 times just to get accurate figures.
I took this from the w3schools jQuery tutorial and built a button, so ignore the way it currently works. I guessed that with a button it would when pressed it would take the latest, aka current selectedIndex values and all would work fine, and it does actually. But I just wanted to ask if there was any way to keep all the information updated at all times without a button, or maybe a button that will update everything on the website with just one click?

I am trying to update the .onclick event after its been clicked once. Everything works fine in my script except updating the .onclick event. I have searched the web and found that I should do the following:
div.onclick = function(params);
or
div.onclick = new function(){updatedStatement};
I have tested both of these steps in IE and FF with no luck. Here is my code:
function movePhrase(OPT,MENU,ID,DIR,LEVEL){
if(DIR == "up"){
var num = OPT - 1;
}else{
var num = OPT + 1;
} .....
function newOnClcik(opt,menu,id,level,dir){
var string = "movePhrase("+opt+","+menu+","+id+",'"+dir+"',"+level+")";
return string;
}
Below is an example or the div code I am trying to update:
<div id="downImage1">
<img id="down1" src="images/downArrow.JPG" onmouseover="this.src='images/downArrowPressed.JPG'" onclick="movePhrase(1,20,331,'down',1)" onmouseout="this.src='images/downArrow.JPG'" width="40" height="40" />
</div>

I am loading a page dynamically using .load with jquery and then i have another button on that page that allows you to go back to the previous page using livequery click function. However, when I go back to the original page, none of the page functions defined previously are working anymore! Is there a way to force the browser to reinitialize the script? How does one get around this problem with jquery?

in my markup, ii have a form w/ a few simple controls, one of which is a pair or radio-buttons; to make it simple, let's say that these two buttons change/set the background color of a plot--'white' for the first button and 'gray' for the second one.
In my jQuery file, referenced/included in my markup is the event handler:
$("input[type=radio][name=backgroundColor]").change(function() {
plot1.grid.background = $(this).val();

I have a program that via an html form asks the user for information. When the user clicks submit a function is run that checks the values, if the values aren't of the correct type (nan etc) then an alert box pops up. If not then it proceeds to the results.
My problem is that the values of the fields in the form are picked up when the submit button is first pressed but when I correct the field errors and press submit again, it throws up the same errors in the alert box.
So how come the first time I press submit it gets the updated values of the variables (which contain the form values) but the second time it doesn't and I have to refresh??

Don't know if this should be under JS or PHP... I have 2 different pages. On the first one, a table shows a list of items. Each has a button that when clicked opens another window with specific size attributes, hence the onClick event. The 2 PHP variables are computed and different for each item (each line).
Here is the line:
<input onClick="javascript:window.open('player_buy.php?send_role=<?=$data['ROLE']?>&send_price=<?=$send_price?>', '_blank', 'status=0,toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=no,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=739,height=320, top=0,left=0')" class="button_sale" type="submit" value="> > >" name="submit">
Now of course, on the popup window, the URL will show .../player_buy.php?send_role=XXX&send_price=XXX
But the goal is to avoid that. So my question is: Is there a way to open such a popup window, pass these variables to it but in a way that it would not show in the URL?

I am reposting a question because my previous post went a bit wild and I didn't get my answer... I'll try to be more precise this time...I have a PHP page in which I query a mysql db, displaying the results in a table. For each line, I have a button that I want to click to open a new popup window and pass 2 variables to that new page. I use the onClick event. Values for these 2 variables are different for each line (each button). See code below.My question is: is there a way to pass these 2 variables and values to the popup window without displaying them in the URL?Here is the first page code:
<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<?
$sql = "select * from LNA_TEAMPLAYERS as A inner join LNA_PLAYERS as B on A.PLAYERID = B.ID_LNA_PLAYERS
[code]...

I'm looking for some help, as I've been going crazy trying to wrap my head around the step I am missing here. I have a function that generates a table of predefined row/column size, and which sets each <td> element's ID to "x ,y" where x and y are the horizontal/vertical coordinates within the table. It's intended for use in running a simple game.What I'd like to do is take it one step further and have the script generate onclick assignments for each <td>, giving them all an onclick function with unique arguments defining the <td>'s grid location. My problem is that I can't figure out how to pass the variables defining the coordinates to the onclick function created in the loop, as an argument.The syntax I'm using for assigning the onclick function:PHP Code:
cell[countx].onclick = function() {clickTile(''+countx+','+county+'')};
Variables countx and county are local to the original function. Here it is in context:
PHP Code:

I've made a tabbing system with javascript which consists of a couple of functions and all I need to do is to initialize one of the functions from each html page the script is linked to.
Here is the function I want to initialize:
The parameter key would be the default selected tab and n being the number of tabs. So if I was to have 3 tabs with first one being selected by default I'd say change(1, 3).
I just need to know how to do this from the html file since I'll be using it on multiple pages and I don't want to have a different js file for each page.

I have been using this trick for some time on a home page. The idea is
to verify the user's browser has Javascript enabled before allowing the
user to access a logon page. The NoJavascript.html page has instructions
for turning on Javascript.
<a href="/NoJavascript.html"
onclick="window.location='/Logon'return false;">Logon </a>
A Windows/ME PC using IE 6 now consistently goes to the
NoJavaScript.html page when the button is clicked even though Javascript
is enabled.
This has been working for several months and continues to work with IE 6
on Windows/XP and other browsers such as Firefox, Opera, etc.
I think the problem is related to the W/ME PC installing the IE 6
Cumulative security Update SP1 (KB896727). Has anyone else encountered a
similar problem and found a solution?
