JQuery :: Another JS Library : Target Element Added To Other JS Library?

Apr 8, 2010

I am using GreaseMonkey to load jQuery 1.3.2 (there is a bug with the latest version of jquery and GM) and jQuery UI 1.8.0.I am using jQuery via GM to manipulate the GUI of a content management system. This CMS uses its own JS library to dynamically add stuff to the dom.

Question:How can I target a dom element that was added to the dom via this other JS lib?In other words, the CMS will add a div to the dom, and I am not sure how to tell jquery to wait for these elements to "be there" before applying the jquery goodness. Specifically, I would like to do this:

$(function() {
$('#zen1227').resizable();
});

But "#zen1227" does not "appear" until later via this other JS library.

JQuery :: Not Picking Up Class-referenced Click Function

Oct 26, 2010

I'm new to jquery, and I'm trying to use multiple dynamically generated buttons (removal from a list), that look like this:

<div> item #1 <input type="submit" name="remove_mailinglist_1" id="remove_mailinglist_1" value="Remove" class="remove_mailinglist"> </div>
<div> item #2 <input type="submit" name="remove_mailinglist_2" id="remove_mailinglist_2" value="Remove" class="remove_mailinglist"> </div>

[Code]......

Three quick questions:

1. Why might this function not get triggered? (I set a breakpoint and it never makes it into the click function.)

2. How could I tell which "Remove" button was pushed? Where can I find the data in scope?

3. Is there a more standardized way to do what I'm doing?

Anchor Objects Referenced By Name Fail In IE?

Aug 7, 2010

for an anchor object, it is ok to reference by index. But when referenced by name, it seems unavailable in IE8 (not sure abt other IE version). I tried FF, it works well. So is it an IE bug or something?
<a name="thisAnchor">HERE</a>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
alert(document.anchors[0].nodeType)
// no problem in IE and FF
alert(document.anchors["thisAnchor"].nodeType)
// does't work in IE?

How To Make Sure An IFrame Is Referenced Before Pasting Html Into It

Jun 18, 2006

At the moment, if I don't specifically click into the iFrame (it is in
design mode) then when I paste the HTML it attaches itself to the main
document rather than in the iframe 'body'.

My JS function at the moment is simply:

function doTable(tabledata)
{
if(tabledata != '')
iHTMLeditor.document.selection.createRange().paste HTML(tabledata);
}

but I think I need an extra line above the iHTMLEditor (my iframe's ID) bit
to make sure it goes in there.

Jquery :: Dynamic Class Changes Not Recognized?

Jul 29, 2010

I'm using some jquery in a website I'm building. Here's what I'm trying to do on one of the pages: I've got a span with some text and a button in it. When the button is clicked, it fires up a jquery click function for its class that is supposed to insert a textbox into it and take the text and put it in the textbox. The class of the button is also changed from "editButton" to "finishButton" so that the other click function fires, which is going to call a webmethod to update whatever the user entered in the database.

But, the function for the editButton class gets executed when it's clicked the next time instead. I know that the class of the button has changed because the css styles for the finishButton class are in effect. I also tried removing the clicked button and creating a new one dynamically, but that one does nothing at all; it doesn't go to either click function. The stuff in the .finishButton function is only there just so I can test whether or not that function actually runs. Whether it works or not, it shouldn't matter... I'm using Firebug so if I put a break point in there, it should hit it either way, right? And this is in an aspx page if that matters at all.

$(".availableProfile").click(function(event) {

In my document ready I have a function which runs 'on blur' of the textbox and hides the span. The following code DOESN'T work to hide the span:
$('#myTextBox').closest('span').hide();

I'm currently using the code below which does work but was wondering why the above code doesn't....

JQuery :: Share Library Between Pages?

Jun 1, 2010

A web application is essentially one page with a bunch of popups that add and manage the data accumulated in the main or first page. The first page loads the jQuery library along with a bunch or plugins.

The modal popups contain an iFrame whose source is a different page. The source page also contain the jQuery library and pretty well the same plugins in most cases. The pages all use jQuery as a base for most of its client side processing.

At times the modal popups can be 4 or 5 deep. One popup is launched from the previous etc..

These libraries might total some 300k bytes or so.

Is there some way to avoid having to reload all the libraries each time a page is loaded. How can jQuery on the main page be used by all subsequent page.

I'd have to be using the libraries as it they were loaded as part or the page and not having to refer to the parent objects for example.

Could some script be run at the start of each page to load the javascript library form the previous page?

Can the jQuery library or anypluginwritten using jQuery beregardedas a singleJavaScriptobject that can be replicated from the parent page?

JQuery :: Does Using A Library Like Make One Less Employable

Mar 31, 2009

My first question is about whether I should use a library like jQuery for my events and other stuff in javascript. I guess I sort of feel guilty because it makes things easier, and I should be learning the hard way without jQuery. When coding websites professionally, do designers use jQuery and other libraries? Do they make the page run slower? I feel like I'm taking the easy way out...

My second question is more of a re-assurance issue. I see all the glorified ads about how you can easily make your webpages with these wonderful programs. They're not going to but HTML jockies out of business, right? I just don't want to learn a language that won't be useful and have a demand in the job market. I'm probably just worrying too much and I'm sure the programs aren't as great as they say they are.
