Jquery :: Ajax Functionality To Make Progress Bar

Mar 25, 2009

I am trying to use jQuery's AJAX functionality to make a progress bar. A request is submited via AJAX, which starts importing data to a database. Once submited another AJAX request is called on an interval which checks the progress of this import, a progress meter is then updated using this information. However, the progress AJAX call which is fired on the submit of the form only returns once the import has complete. Its like its being blocked by the initial request? How I can get both calls to work at the same time?

JQuery :: Callback Function Required To Make Ajax Call

Jul 15, 2010

On a project I got stuck on this "problem". When you make a json (ajax) call. You also need a callback function. Which means I have to call the next $.getJSON within that callback function to read the next portion of data. In my opinion this is not very readable code...What I want is a nice and readable piece of code. Where you could just write it like this:
var data1 = $.getJSON(..);
var data2 =$.getJSON(..);
I've found a solution here: [URL] (explains my problem perfectly). But it's not compatible with the getJSON story. Is there already a possibility to do this with the jquery library?

Can I Make My DOM Script Asynchronous? (Not AJAX...)

Oct 7, 2006

I've got a script that, onload, loops through every tag on the page (getElementsByTagName ('*')) and can be pretty slow on some of my pages with MANY tags.

What I'm wondering is if there's some way I can tell the browser to run the script asynchronously, without locking up the browser while it loops through all the tags and adds its objects and properties to them?

I'm pretty sure I've made the script about as effecient as possible. There's just no way around checking all the tags.

JQuery :: Use A Parent-frame - Objected To Make Child-frame AJAX?

Aug 26, 2011

I have a domain: example.com; which is the parent.And a subdomain: api.example.com; which page 'receiver.html' is being loaded in an iframe, child of parent. Both pages set document.domain = example.com.

I'm trying to adapt this code:[url] but Idon't want to load jQuery from the <iframe> again but I need to have the method $.ajax() working from the <iframe> otherwise it would be a cross-domain request and the browser would abort it. I tried ingenuously to set via $('iframe')[0].contentWindow.$.ajax = $.ajax() and I just got a shortcut to the parent page jQuery method. I also tried to "clone" it using $.expand (true...) but the method doesn't work for me; probably because of the complexity of the objected I'm trying to clone. So is there a way for me to use jQuery to have only a $.ajax() method in the <iframe> ? I've thought even about creating a XHR in the child-iframe and then use that in the $.ajaxSetup ({xhr: THATNEWXHR}) but I couldn't do it. I mean, I want to use the XHR factory from jQuery (which has fallbacks for IE, etc) but it has to be created from the iframe-child.

Maybe there is other way to make the AJAX call come from the child-iframe.

If you're wondering "why don't you load jQuery from <script> in the child-iframe", there is a reason... As I'm using jQuery plugins + my own custom javascripts + other independent scripts I created a compiler which minifies each file and bundle them in one. The advantage of this is the reduction of HTTP requests. So "why don't you load that bundle inside the child-iframe?", because it's ugly and Twitter doesn't... Yeah, I like to take Twitter as a reference and I think if they were able to make it so can I;

I got to work in most browsers except IE and Operaby doing it with pure javascript.

I'm "attaching" the code for you guys to test. If you open it with Chrome, Safari or Firefox you will receive 2 alerts one with the return of $.get() and another with the return of a request made via XMLHttpsRequest object. Otherwise (if you open it with IE or Opera) you'll get 'undefined' in the first alert but the real return in the second.

This is the example.com/index.htm:

AJAX :: Make A Search Case Insensitive?

Apr 19, 2011

I am working on a search function to call some data from an XML document. It works fine except for the fact that it's case sensitive.

What method do I need to use from the String object to make it case insensitive, so that a J is the same as j?

I was thinking of changing my text box string to all lower case using toLowerCase(). If I did this, then would I have to do the same thing in the info retrieved from the XML document? I want to make it so that Tom is the same as tom - I'm just wondering where I would have to apply these - to both the XML doc (being read for the output) as well as the text box string (the input).

Just wondering if I'm overthinking this, or on the right track with toLowerCase().

Also, in my search, to filter the results from only entering a few letters (not the entire element, I'm using the substr() method. It seems to work but I don't know if this affecting the case somehow...

AJAX :: Comparison Solutions To Make Crawable?

Oct 14, 2011

I'm about to develop a heavily AJAX based website (this is because the website should look more like a brochure/leaflet). All of this should happen without harming it's SEO performance.I saw some solutions (but most articles were actually quite outdated).this is how I see it:

- One way to do it is by using a hash URL. something like www.website.com/#!/category/product

-- with jQuery you can make the hash change however you want

-- because of the '!', Google will ask for a HTML snapshot. Everyone is happy in that way.

-- Question: will these clean urls (so the /#!/... ones) have the same value for Google as the traditional ../category/product urls?

- Another way is to have standard links: like [url].....

-- Use 'Hijax' system, so catch the standard (server side urls) and get the content trough javascript httprequest

-- Google bot can just visit normal page instantly, for him this is just a normal site

-- Javascript disabled browsers will now be able to surf the website in a better way.

-- Only one page has to be created, and not 2 views as with the previous solution...

-- Question: I haven't seen how this is technically possible. So far I only saw /#/ websites.

What do you think about these 2 solutions? Which one is preferable? Do you have experience with one of them?

Edit: PS: it was difficult to choose in which section to put this topic (SEO or Javascript). But I guess there will be more javascript than SEO challenges in this development process.
