JQuery :: Can't Return False In Live Event On Internet Explorer
Oct 30, 2009This works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer ignores the return false and just follows the link.

View 4 RepliesI have the following code
Code:
$('a').live( 'click', doIt() ) ;
...
function doIt() { return false }
However, the 'return false' does nothing. If I click a link the event is not stopped and the page it points to is loaded!
So, what could I do, given the above code, to stop the click event ?
UPDATE: I inspected jQuery object and changed doIt to
Code:
function doIt() {
$.Event.preventDefault();
$.Event.stopPropogation() ;
}
Does not produce errors, but didn't stop the event, but I feel I'm getting closer
I am working on a script to allow the user to click on an image to turn table header locking on and off. Everything appears to work fine, with the exception of one quirk that is occurring when I run the test page in Internet Explorer (7, in this case). If you click on the icon once to turn on header locking, it works. If you then click the icon again, it turns off header locking, as it is supposed to. But after that, you can no longer click on the icon. It is as if it loses the event binding. I am not removing or in anyway creating a new instance of the icon (although I did try using live() instead of click() just to be safe). Also, if I run this same page in Firefox, I do not have this problem. You can see the example page and view the complete source at [URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have nested markup like this
Code HTML4Strict:
<li><span></span></li>
I have different click functions, one attached to the li and the other to the span.
When I click on the span they both run. Ending the span's event handler with return false; prevented that from happening, which is what I want. But I'm not sure I understand why it worked.. I know, for example, if I was clicking on an anchor, return false would stop the browsers default action of following the href value. Same for submitting a form, return false will stop this. I don't think I understand why this would stop a completely different function from being triggered..
<script src='xxx.js' onload='alert("hello")'></script>
It isn't working in internet explorer, how can i fix it?
I'm using the code from the Fancy Form Design book, but i'm having trouble getting the code to make the slideDown and slideUp work in IE. In Chrome it's perfect, in FF it's ok but there's some kind of artifact on the bottom of the code? If you click 'send me post' it doesn't work in IE 8 (or IE 7 compat). Code below.

my javascript create new element when it is first loaded.
the code work fine in opera and mozilla and netscape, but it failed in
microsoft IE. message:
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site
I check the google, found some info. But, none related to my problem.
the cause is due to creating new element while the page is loading.
How to do that without problem?
So this works just fine in FF. In IE7 I am getting this error. I can see my content load in the background, when I hit ok it takes me to a page cannot be displayed page. If I comment out:
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/moodalbox.js"></script>
It doesnt present that error, but that is obviously not an option. Here is my code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />[CODE]......
I would like to code a drop down navigation where the top tier of navigation links is NOT clickable, only the child elements. I am wondering how I would go about coding this using Jquery.
[Code]...
I have two linked select field. when i change the first field, it populate the second one by a list loaded in ajax.
I would return false on my select if the second list loaded is empty.
$.getJSON(
'/ajax/cours',
{
categorie: $("#categorie").val()

Probably an easy one, I have the following code...

However whenever I click on the link it still goes to the top of the page.
I'm trying to build my own form validator using jQuery but I'm having an issue. The form throws the alert, but still submits!
Here's my code:
Code:
$(document).ready(function(){
function validateForm(){
$('.req').each(function(){

Why do we place 'return false;' at the end of jquery functions?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to make my very ajaxy site more SEO friendly, lots of the returned actions from ajax can be retrieved as a full page, so it's just a matter of exposing the links. Up until now I've had 'span' tags which I have now changed to 'a href' so that the search engines will follow them. I've added the following code so that if the event should send an ajax request, it does that, or if it should go get the full page, it does that.
<code>
jQuery('a.mixContent').livequery('click',function(){
var vtid=jQuery(this)..parent('div.controller').parent('li').attr
('id');
alert(eventid);
if(eventid!=null){
clicked(getSelected, eventid);
} else {

I am currently trying to get an action on the click of a link, and not make it follow the link, just carry everything out in jQuery. Now, if the AJAX request isn't there, it will work as supposed too, but with the AJAX request, it will follow the link, not taking any notice for the return false.

I don't know if that's a problem from jquery or not, so it's a question for the moment :)

I have a link which when clicked either fades up a full screen overlay and a popup box ontop or fades them both down. This works perfect in every browser except IE7 and IE8. The popup box fades in and out OK but the overlay just appears or disappears with no fading (which is bizarre!)

I have a problem with the javascript (I'm using jQuery) in a facebook application in internet explorer 7:[URL]..In the background some facebook like iFrames are loaded and when the user clicks on one of those attractions on that map the attraction should zoom out and the like buttons of this attracion should appear. I have only a very old pc with msie 7 running and it seems to load those iFrames again and again and nothing else works. I doesn't have any other debugging tool then IE Developer Toolbar but that doesn't seem to show any javascript errors or information.

$("#"+TABLE_ID+" tbody").replaceWith(newBody);
where newBodyis plain text. IE's profiler reports quite a bit of time for replaceWith. I wonder if there is something faster.

Issue with Internet Explorer 7 and the Hover State of this div (highlighted in red).[url]
To view an example of what's going on. If I try simply using jquery's mouseover() function without a mouseout () it actually works in the red area, so for some reason a mouseout() is always getting triggered in the left area of the left most box and there's nothing different in that box's css vs. the others.
