JQuery :: Applying Variable To If Statement?
Jun 17, 2010
Need to apply a var to a statement if its conditions are met, this syntax isn't throwing errors but its not working.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
var action_is_post = false;
//stuff here
[Code].....
should I use something other than .ready? I need it to apply the var when #stepDesc0 has the class current.

Basically I have several hidden inputs, each with different values. I need to do something like:
if ('input:hidden').val('===1') {
var foo = true;
})
I know this is not right. I need to get the hidden input's name in there somehow.

I'm having a tough time trying to add the "zip" variable to my YQL statement.
var zip = $(this).attr('zip');
$.YQL("select * from rss where url='http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=' ' "+ zip +" ' ", function(data){
var w=data.query.results.item;
[Code].....
I've tried as many different ways as I could imagine. Simply putting the literal zip code in the query works perfect.

Below is a working code.
1. if($('input[name="test"]').is(":checked"))
2. {
3. // my other code
4. }
I want to remove "test" and put a variable there instead
I tried this way but it does not seem to work.
1. newData="test";
2. if($('input[name=$(newData)]').is(":checked"))
3. {
4. // my other code
5. }

I've made the following script:
$(document).ready(function(){
var showHide = $.cookie('menuStatus');
alert(showHide);
/* Part that dosnĀ“t work.
if (showHide==closed) {
$("#menu").hide();
}
*/
$(".openClose").click(
function(){
$("#menu").slideToggle("slow", function() {
if ($(this).is(':hidden')) {
//var state = "closed";
$.cookie('menuStatus', 'closed');
} else if ($(this).is(':visible')) {
//var state = "open";
$.cookie('menuStatus', 'open');
}
//alert(state);
});
});
Now this is the example: [URL]. When page loads, you get an alert, with the var showHide, which should be open or closed. Problem is the if statement. I must say it was exciting to make this little script with jQuery. Especially setting the cookie, I couldn't have done it without the jQuery plugin. As you can see I tried to set a variable first but when page reloads, the variable was reset.

I have been assigned the old Pizza Form tutorial. My form asks for customer info, select size with radio button, and select toppings with checkboxes.I created a ValidateForm() function to check if these are filled in and output a message for each field saying "please fill in field."My problem now is that on Submit I need to print out a message with customer info, selected size, and selected toppings.I have the customer info done with a var message:
var message = "Name: " + name + "
";
message += "Address: " + address + "

I've created a jQuery script that uses a switch statement. However, my experience with it, relative to variable scope, doesn't seem to follow the logic.According to the JavaScript/jQuery theory, a global variable was accessible (meaning read & write) throughtout any function within any script (one that page).However, apparently that theory wasn't completely true as it pertained to switch statements that contained variables. To illustrate my case in point, I've included a simplistic version of my code:
$("#selector").delegate("div", "click", function(event) {
var testVar = 4;
switch (this.id) {
[code]...
As shown, the variable "testVar" is not accessible from one case to the next case .Furthermore, to add insult to injury, I am seeing the same behavior within the conditional if else statement counterpart to the switch statement.

I have an input form that accepts numbers. I am trying to compare the last field value to the current field value. My problem is that when I use the variable name of the last field in an object path, I get the error "null or not an object". The var 'L' is the problem in the statement below. If I manually type the field name in place of 'L', it works fine. How do I have to write this statement so 'L' works?
Problem statement:
c=window.document.save_info.L.value;
Here is my code: Form element:
Code:
<input style="border:1px solid gray; background-color: #FF9;" onkeyup="moveOnTwo('frm_score1',<?PHP echo $num_holes; ?>,this,'frm_score2')" size="1" maxlength="3" name="frm_adjsc1" id="frm_adjsc1" />
JavaScript Function:
Code:
function moveOnTwo(lastFieldID,holes,field,nextFieldID){
var L = lastFieldID ; var N = nextFieldID;

I'm trying to import some xml code and append it to some dom element, using this...
[code]
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "resources/xml/sites.xml",
dataType: "xml",
[Code].....
the correct code ( <a id....></a> ) is appended in body (checked with firefox and chrome js console), but the css style associated to it is not applied at all... it's not even shown as a link...
moreover, the alert method returns 0, so I cannot even search by its id or class...
I used the .clone() method because chrome shows an error without it.

$(".change_page").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
do_stuff();
});
I noticed when I click one of these links, there is an ever so slight lag on all browsers. Maybe less than half a second, but it'snoticeable.
Now, when I remove e.preventDefault() and use return false instead, everything runs a lot smoother.

I'm trying to run a function that reads the css property of an element and copies it over to another element on click.
I'm sure a huge part of my problem is that I'm stillstrugglingto learn the correct syntax for things, but I'm sure it's framed like this:
I didn't want to post my ACTUAL attempt to code this, mostly out of shame. But I'm pretty certain that it's ridiculously incorrect.

Have been using a lot of jquery lately on some new project. Running into an issue where I stream back HTML from a servlet that is to be rendered on a page that is already rendered (using jquery async callbacks). When the HTML prints to the page into the div's specified, the css styles used in the streamed html are not showing. For example, I have the header shaded blue with white bold text via a classname in CSS.
Example Call
function function_orderExceptions(){
$.ajax({
url: '/Home/customHomepageWidgets.do?method=loadOrderExceptions&

I am very new to jQueryUI and had a question about 1 small thing that has been bugging and throwing me off. Let's say for example, we are creating a dialogue box, triggered to open on the click of a <button>. Once applied, the <button> takes classes such as ui-button, etc, which may end up altering what you want that particular button to look like.
Is there any way to stop jQueryUI from applying this set of classes to the button itself? I have tried using removeClass to strip these, but it doesn't seem to have any effect at all. The styles in my default themeroller theme have been good for everything else, except these small things I don't want altered by the jquery classes. I the model form example, I removed button() from the js and it didn't apply any new styles to the button.

I'm attempting to print a column of links received via AJAX request with an accompanying simple hover effect, however I can not get the hover effect to apply to the dynamic content. I've tried a few different ways of accomplishing this, none of which have worked so far. The most recent is posted below.
The call to imgUpdate.php in the following code snip returns content like:
<a class='storyImage' href='http://link.com/dev/?p=50'><img src='http://link.com/img1.JPG'/></a><br />
<a class='storyImage' href='http://link.com/dev/?p=47'><img src='http://link.com/img2.JPG'/></a><br />

I want to be able to add "hints" to fields (text which disappears when you click in a field and then reappears if the field is left empty).I have code which is fine for specific fields one at a time, but I'd like to use a JSON structure to apply to arbitrary fields: Something like [["eventType", "eg Walking"], ["eventName", "eg London Marathon"], ["message", "(Max 100 words)"]] would put "eg Walking" into the field with id="eventType" etc.The following code puts the hints in the correct fields, but only the last one handles the focus/blur properly. It seems that the value of hintText for the comparison to this.value is only the last one.
for (var i=0; i<allHints.length; i++) {
fieldID = allHints[i][0];
hintText = allHints[i][1];

I'm having a tough time implementing stop() to preventqueuingon an animation that uses slideup/slidedown on hover. The issue relates to the search icon in this fiddle:[url]
It's unclear to me why ".stop(true, false)." isn't working as it does on the animations of the other icons. I thought maybe this was a job for dequeue, but that's not helping either.
The other icons use animate to adjust the background position, and stop(true, false) works perfectly to keep them smooth and preventqueuing. The same is not true on the search icon. It queues hovers without a stop; with a stop(true, true), it's jumpy and resets mid animation; and with stop(true,false), it gets stuck after one cycle.
The reason I used slide on the search icon was because I had to float a div that would would move with the animation and would be clickable to stop the animation on focus -- when a user clicks in the search box.

I have a jquery function for loading links from my navigation on the left to the content div on the right. I also have a function for applying a class called active to that anchor link's list item parent. I later found that going through other included files in the template that there was already a function for adding that class in one of the included files (js/titanium.js) however when I take off my add class function it doesn't apply it. I thought the function from the titanium.js file would apply it but it doesn't. I have all the included javascript files included in the head of my page but for some reason it's still not using what's inside them I guess.
Another issue is that in the template file there is a jquery sortable function for any table, also included in another javascript file, and I'm not sure why its not working with my tables to make them sortable? [URL]
