how to implement this bit of UI wizardry. I have a list of categories and the user is asked to pick all applicable items and then rate them individually. Right now I have a long list with checkboxes. Whenever a user checks one of the boxes a rating control pops up next to it and they just select the number of stars they want to rate the item.
Although this works for my purposes, it's a bit clumsy and takes up a lot of real estate (I have 30 items in the list so far and this may grow). What would be the best way to get this done?
I have a cgi script (using perl for database queries) in which I have two select boxes. I am populating the left select box with rows from a database, and then provide buttons for people to move items to the right select box.
So far so good, everything works, the move right, move left, and move right all and move left all buttons work, data is always sorted in both lists. My only problem is, when I click the submit button, the follow up program only displays data that was highlighted/selected in the right select box, not all of the data in the right select box.
I don't know how to tell the script, via javascript, to highlight everything in the right select box when the submit form button is clicked. I would think i could just call a function via -onClick for the submit button. I could use some help with the function to select all data in that list.

This one should be easy. In fact, it was working for a long time as far as I know. Then I upgraded from jQuery 1.4.4 to 1.7.1 and a few things stopped working. (This is according to my client; it's possible it's been broken for a long time.)
So a customer logs in and sees his/her registration information. Name, address, phone number, etc... It gets this information from a MySQL database. For the customer's home address, there's a dropdown for the state (MA, NH, etc...) Rather than displaying the default specified in the HTML code, I have a bit of jQuery code that is supposed to change the dropdown selection to the user's home state as stored in the MySQL database.
Unfortunately, nothing happens. It rather than changing to the user's home state, it just displays the default state (AL, the first alphabetically).

I verified that $row['state'] contains valid data by outputting it as HTML on the page (my test data outputs "MA"). And I'm reasonably sure that this used to work in the past.

I have two text fields one is TECH field and another is JOB NUMBER... If I type a number in the tech field and If I select a number from the autopopulated/autosuggested list of tech number(which is queried from the database) it should display a dropdown list of JOBNUMBERS associated to that particular TECH number. The TECH is not a Primary key in database)

I'm trying to find the currently clicked index of .accordion_trigger from within another element.
When inside the .accordion_trigger click event I can simply do the below to get the current clicked index:

Obviously this doesn't work when called from within another element. I understand that 'this' is part of the problem but can't seem to find a way to form the code in such a way for it to produce a valid result. Thus far I only get -1 or 0.
When .accordion_trigger is clicked it has an "$(this).toggleClass('active').next().slideDown();" applied so in theory I shold be able to search for which of the .accordion_trigger's are "active".
I've also tried doing this via the below method but to no avail:

I am writing a test harness for a web app using jquery. When recording a test, I add handlers for user interaction events (e.g. click on an A tag), and record details of the tag clicked. When playing back, I need to find the tag (so I can emulate a click on it). The A tags do not have id elements - the only unique way to identify then is to use the href. However, I have hrefs containing quote characters [typical hrefs include "javascript:Go('fred')" and even "javascript:Go("jimmy's ")"]. How do I construct a jquery selector to match these?
My first attempt (before I noticed the presence of the quotes) was
$("A[href='" + href + "']")
Interestingly, this hung the browser completely for many minutes!
I have a single-cell table with a bunch of items within divs like item 1 below. The values in the divs are categories.
Following that (item 2 below), I have several single-row, two-column tables where the first column represents a Name (the item I want highlighted) and the second column is one or more of the category items (subset of item 1).

I have a javascript index that is similar to the one in the Windows
help. It has a text field that allows the you to type text and it
finds the closest item in the list below the text field. The list is
simply a select element with options that looks like this:

My problem is when I have a large list, the closest entry selects the
item in the list at the bottom of the list box, not the top of the
list box.
So here's the question: Is there a way to get the list box to display
the selected item and move it to the top of the list and not just find
it at the bottom?
To get an idea of what I 'want' it to look like, in Windows, go to
Help & Support (in XP it's in your start menu) and pick Index. I
basically want it to mirror that functionality.
I have 2 ready items. The first changes the size of the surrounding div, the second tries to find out about the size of the changed div, but only gets the old value before the first ready item started. If i place a new ready item that holds for a second (i.e. an alert box) the calculation of the first ready item is done when the last ready item starts and all works fine. Is it possible for a ready item to wait and not to start until the item before is finished?

I have a multiselet box in which i identify the selected items. Once the user has finished selecting the items it causes the form to be submitted. For this example it just shows the selected indexes. To see the problem. Copy paste the code and save as html file. Then click on an item in the select box.

I have mulitiple 'a' tags with different classes (aclass1, aclass2, aclass(n)) and I have multiple divs, also with consecutive classes (divclass1, divclass2, divclass(n)). Is there a way to select the 'a' tags to match the div based on its number (ie. 'aclass1' with 'divclass1' and aclass2 with divclass2)? For example something like this:
