JQuery :: Monitoring Div's For Onhover And Changing The CSS Background Property?
May 31, 2011
In the code below I have eight div's belonging to a class "mainmenu". There is styling for said class "mainmenu" in the header and that is what I would like to modify with my jQuery. What I am trying to do is set jQuery up to monitor each div for the onhover event and change the "background:" property for each div that is being hovered. I have a good book on jQuery but I don't really see this type of situation being covered. Is this possible to do?

I can successfully change the background image using the following:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$("div#largeimage").randombg({
directory: "http://path/to/imgs", //directory to image folder
howmany: 3 //how many images are in this folder
});
});
But, what I want to do is change this ONCE per user session. So instead of change this on every refresh / page load I want to load it once, store that setting in a cookie/session, and not do it again until the next session.

I have a container <div> with a link inside of it. What I need to do is change the background of the <div> and the color of the link text at the same time.I can change the color of the link when I hover over it, but not when I hover over the <div>I have columns of links and each column is the width of the longest link so there are some links with "space" to the right of the link. When that "space" is hovered over the background of the div changes but not the color of the link text.The menulinkbox is the container and there are, for example, 4 columns with 4 rows in each column. When I hover over a column + row I want the menulinkbox's background to change *and* the color of the <a> text to change.

jquery:

Only works in FF. Not chrome, opera, or IE.

Now, this works fine with every manual refresh of the page and I can obviously get it to work with a <META> refresh, but I would like to do achieve this without resorting to this crude method.Note that I have additional code to stretch the image to the client browser resolution.I found this topic which look svery similar to what I want but doesn't have any code for the background image scaling ... http:[url]....

I am trying to do the following.
While the background color of a div is changing when i click on a button, the image in the other div must change.
Now i have placed a bg image in a div and when i click on my menu link it changes so that works, but i would love to give it a transition, but is that even possible with the background image.
Or do i need to write some other code?
The colors and images change, but really would love a bounce in transition, cant figure it out though maybe it would be better with a list and placing the images just in the slider div?

I tried to create a mouse over effect using jquery. When user hovers #box1_trigger link, the #service_box1 div should change it's background position. The code I created is the following it's not working for some reason.
html:
<div class="service_box box1" id="service_box1">
<a href="#" id="box1_trigger">
<h3> </h3>
<p> </p>
</a>
</div>
javascript:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#box1_trigger").hover(
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition:"(0 -250px)"}, "slow");
},
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition: "0 0"}, "slow");
}
);
});
</script>
css:
#service_box1{
width:318px; height:282px;
float:left;
background:url(images/services_panel.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
}
a#box1_trigger{
width:100%; height:100%;

Could somebody confirm if and how I can change the TYPE of a textbox from
PASSWORD to TEXT depending on whether a user checks a checkbox.
In essence I have a login and password form and the end user wants the
option to check a checkbox to make the Password textbox show normal text
rather than the asterisks. If the checkbox is unchecked then it shows the
asterisks when entering the password.

I've got a website with font sizes using 'em's. I've made it so that in my 'body' CSS styling, I can change the font size and it changes it right throughout the whole site.
I have hyperlinks to increase and decrease the font size but have no idea how to get the links to change the 'font-size' property in my 'body' definition. As a secondary requirement (but not essential) I also need to remember this value and store in a cookie so the user doesn't need to keep resizing the page on every reload.

For a application I am writting I need to make some table columns apear and disapear by clicking on a link. I do this by changing the "style" property in the <td> tag.
The HTML is generated by ASP.NET, which automaticly sets the style property of the <td> tag to the right value. and makes links to the right Javascript function call to change a specific property.
This is the HTML output of 2 table columns: Code:

I tried out this script, but then I realized that it wasn't going to work for what I wanted it to do, but i figured I would leave it so you can have an idea of what I need. I am fairly new at javascript and followed a tutorial for this, but because I am new, I can only go so far at the moment..
So here is the site: http://96.9.157.245/~rrochlin/in-the-media/
What is happening now is when you click the little image on the left (in the top black area) changes and shows a new picture. Unfortunately thats CLOSE but not right. I need it to change the image on hover and actually open a link on click/

I'm currently relying on logged-in users hitting "logout"
(logoff) before they leave, in order to terminate the session.
With PHP the session filename is in a cookie that lasts for the
current session. The problem is that the server does not know
when the current session expires. (I have quite long timeouts.)
Did anybody attempt a script to automatically call "logout"
when the session expires? It seems quite complicate, as there
are multiple urls that share the same session and the user is
not actually logging out until one of them is open in some
client window.

We have a web site that has various 3rd party javascript components on it, such as google analytics code, ad code, etc... JavaScript that executes in the browser and that we have no control over. We'd like to monitor and time the execution of these various blocks of 3rd party code so that we know exactly how long the page is taking to render to the end user. My first thought was to have some sort of JavaScript stopwatch that started immediately when the page began rendering, and then when various 3rd party JS components finished, the stopwatch would report back to a web service we expose noting which 3rd party code block just finished and how much time had elapsed. This web service would log all these reports.

I spotted some nice code to change the background colour of a web page to
one of four different colours at random but I can't find it now!
The method was to select a number at random from 1 to 4 by using the rnd()
function and then dividing by modulus 4. The result was then used to select
a cell in a 4 cell array which was holding a different colour in each cell
of the array. I would like to have this code but lack the knowledge to
re-create it.
