JQuery :: IE6 - Replacing All Of My Standard Js In A Massive Intranet PHP Application
Feb 5, 2010
I have been using jQuery for only a few weeks now, replacing all of my standard js in a massive Intranet PHP application with lovely and space-saving jQuery. However, I've been using FF to write and test code while the company standard is IE6. Nothing works in IE6 - nada, zip, zilch. It bugs out on the very first call to the js file and wants me to begin debugging. Am I correct in assuming that I'm going to have to go back to regular js? I'd love to get the company to upgrade to IE7 - I've not seen ANY complaints about IE7 and jQuery.

I currently have a standard .NET grid in my application and am considering a few options. I could replace the grid with divs so the current rows would be like posts in a forum. Or replace the .NET grid with the new jQurey grid, that way I would gain a whole lot of functionally!
My question is can a grid be modified so that the rows are about 11/2 inches tall and be formated to show several lines of text? I want them to show 2 business names, addresses and some details gotten from a form.

I'm programming a function that breaks a massive string (2 million + characters) into "manageable" chunks of 500,000 characters. The function goes as follows [code]...
As you can see, everything should work fine, and the function should return a stringified json array (which would be parsed and sent to a server) but the loop stops after the first interval. When I decrease the length of "v" using substr to 5 characters, the loop works fine. What could the problem be?

I have a following problem:
from time to time an attack on my page is performed,
overloading the server. The administrators had to limit the
access to the page to some domains only. I would like to
keep the page open for everybody.
Probably I should introduce a JavaScript/CGI driven form and
let user to copy some letters etd. before letting him
entering the page.
I am sure there are many solutions to this problem around,
but I don't know what to search for. Can you give me some
tips where to start?
I think the attacs are just casual, there are no real
reasons why should anybody try to copy or destroy the page
(no commerece, no money to loose or gain), so probably I
should start with something simple.

I have been struggling with a loop of mine. The loop should create a grid, of 204,000 squares(div's). And the total would create a grid field of 340 pixels by 600 pixels. All div's are sized 1 pixel.The idea is to create a grid, that shows temperature data in a gradient style, like a weather heat map. The data is collected from temperature sensors which are connected to a database.The only problem is that because it's such a massive amount of calculations to be calculated by javaScript, the whole thing freezes. Here is a sample of my code:
Code:
function makeGrid()
{
for (var i = 0; i < 8160; i++)
{
[code]....
Another problem is, the grid should be reloaded every 5 seconds or less.Because that's the interval used by the temp sensors, and for the usage that's planned for the project, its really important that the data is constantly up to date. using another web based language are welcome, as long as they are combinable with PHP or AJAX. Or maybe there is a ready to use library that I dont know of. Couldn't find anything for jQuery.

Inside a function: mygrid._in_header_multiselect_filter=function(t,i,d){
The first parameter is a HTML node [url].
I want to turn it into a JQuery version of the same so I can deal with it using JQuery, i.e. accessing it's children, setting up it's onclick event, etc. How to convert it to JQuery?

I would like to create vertical variant of the standard ui.tabs. In visual terms, I would like to "rotate the basic ui.tabs layout by 90 degrees, clockwise"; the tabs should be on the right, with a maximum width of 50-60px. Basically, I would like to re-create a standard, paper-based, address-book, with each tab having a letter (or a range of letters).
I've tried a number of variations, but my CSS/jQuery skills obviously fall short of my imagination... :-)

I want to place a piece of JavaScript at the top of my page/s that wil
tell all links on that page to open in certain target windows dependin
on the hostname.
Suppose the intranet address is http://intranet
so this means that the hostname is "intranet" right?
If I want all intranet page links to open in the same window but al
other links (ie external internet links) to open in a new windo
(_blank) then would I use something like below? Please correct an
place I've gone wrong:
if(document.links.hostname == "intranet") {
this.target = "_top";
} return true;
But somewhere in there I would also need an "else" statement to tell i
to open all other links in "_blank" target. Can someone please tell m
where that should be added in. I'm fairly new to javascript and am no
exactly sure what order some of this stuff should go in.

My company is in the search process for using web analytics on our company intranet application. Anyone have any recommendations for some 3rd party software to accomplish this?
We use Google analytics for the public site, but according to the documentation, we have to use a fully qualified domain name for the intranet it order for it to work with google.

I have to do in plain JavaScript something that I'm much more used to doing in jQuery.. this is for a standard tabbed-content show/hide div switcheroo.. here's the jQuery code:
$('.tabs a').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
$('.tab_content_wrapper').hide();[code]....
'this' evidently does not refer to the element that was clicked on...also, can you refer to elements by their class name? also, is it possible to do event-binding in plain JavaScript w/o using individual id's for the clicked-on elements?

I've noticed that IE have different security approach when loading a
page from an inner intranet or when loading a page from the web.
Is there a way in Javascript to know when your page is running by an
outsider and when by an insider? How the browser knows?

Looking over other threads on this site I was able to use another members script to build my own for adding a network printer via JavaScript on our Intranet. With that, the script works perfectly fine when testing it on the local machine I built it on, but not on other machines in the office. Currently I'm remoted into the branch office I reside in from the corporate office where I'm currently at so the machines being tested are on different subnets, but the script is simple calling the UNC path for the printer. When tested on any other computer, and the link is clicked on the page, the user is taken back to the folder in windows explorer the HTML file is saved in, rather than executing the add printer portion of the script.
This is my full code as of now, I was trying to get the function correct before formatting the actual website (obviously)
Code:
<html><head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-gb">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<title>Printer Mapping</title>
</head>
<script>
function addPrinter25(){
var x=confirm("You are about to add printer GPSACC01. Would you like to make this your default printer?")
if (x==true){
WshNetwork = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Network");
var PrinterPath = "\\gpsprnt02\gpsacc01";
WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection(PrinterPath);
WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter(PrinterPath);
alert("Printer GPSACC01 has been added successfully and set as default")
}else{
WshNetwork = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Network");
var PrinterPath = "\\gpsprnt02\gpsacc01";
WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection(PrinterPath);
alert("Printer GPSACC01 has been added successfully")
}}
</script>
<font color="#0000FF" face="Arial">
<a href="" onclick="addPrinter25(); return false;">GPSACC01</a></font>
</body></html>

I've been going bonkers trying to find the answer to this question...
I'm hoping somebody out there can help me. Our network environment is
Active Directory and our web server is Windows 2003 IIS 6.
I've got an ASP page that we include into each of our pages to act as
our companywide header. We force users to authenticate into our
Intranet site, and we are able to display the following information
about them on each page:
Welcome (username)
Today is (whatever)
Can Javascript or Dhtml or something else get me this information? We
have thousands and thousands of webpages and I don't want to have to
use the .asp extension on every single one if I don't have to... but I
can't find a way to display the username in the header without it =|
Somebody mentioned using File System Objects, but I haven't yet
experimented in that arena. Code:

There are multiple intranet pages with a list of names on them that are updated regularly.At the moment, there is no easy way to check if a name is on the pages without going in to each one at a time and searching them individually.
Is there a javascript script I could use to search all of the pages at the same time, and if a match is found, open the relevant page and highlight the result?

I have an asp.net app running on an Intranet. From one of my aspx
pages I would like to run a javascript that will run the following
command OUTSIDE of the IIS/asp.net environment on the CLIENT machine
(remember, a controlled Intranet!). Is this possible? This windows
program needs to be opened and data entered periodically while using
the asp.net app as well.
The exe runs in a dos command window, tied to a Citrix ica file.

I have the non-standard element
<testele></testele>
In every browser except IE, this bit of JavaScript will successfully change the content of the above element:
document.getElementsByTagName("testele")[0].innerHTML = 'hi';
However, if I change the <testele> to just a <span> (in the HTML and the JavaScript), it now successfully changes the content of the element in every browser, including IE.

When we submit the form using a standard submit button, onSubmit is triggered and form is submitted. When I use a div and call submit() on its onClick event, the form is submitted but onSubmit is not triggered. Is there any possibility to trigger onSubmit explicitly without using button ??

<div style="width:100px; height:50px; background-image:url('test_button.jpg');" onClick="document.getElementById('testForm').submit()"></div>
