JQuery :: How To Overload / Extend Core Method

Mar 30, 2010

How can I overload or extend (or intercept) jQuery's .html() method so that it works its default way unless the object has a certain class?

JQuery :: Extending Or Replacing Core Function?

May 17, 2010

A client is using an analytics tracking script that needs to be updated each time the DOM is modified (ie, an element is added or removed). Basically this script allows the client to track user actions on the site (clicks, mouseovers, etc.) and, if the user is having issues, replay the entire session to help them with their problem. The issue we're running into is that this tracking script takes a cache of the DOM tree on page load, and when the DOM is updated it needs to specifically be notified that there has been a change... or else the script won't be able to see the nodes that have been added/removed.

Assuming all DOM manipulation is done using jQuery functions, is there a way to run some function every time the DOM is manipulated? I've noticed that all the DOM manipulation functions seem to run through the internal $.fn.domManip function, so I was wondering if it's possible to extend or replace this function from another JS file (assuming of course that all the manipulation functions DO in fact run through $.fn.domManip)?

Example (don't take this code seriously, it's more meant to illustrate what I'm trying to do):
var oldDomManip = $.fn.domManip; //Copy the function (I know this isn't right)
$.fn.domManip = function() {
oldDomManip(arguments);
//update the analytics program by calling it's update function here...
}

JQuery :: Malsup's Form Plugin Uses .attr() For Disabled - IE7 Drops Form Fields W/ JQ Core 1.6.*?

Jul 11, 2011

We're using Malsup's form plugin v2.82 and jQuery core 1.6.2. We're having issues in IE7 where, on a form with file upload, form fields are being dropped before the form is submitted to the server.We tracked it down to the `fileUpload` function, specifically line 196 where each field in the form data has `.attr('disabled',false)` run against it. If we change this to`.prop('disabled',false)` it all works fine.I don't see a clearly marked place to submit bug reports for the form plugin, and wanted to verify that others see this as well,

JQuery :: Trying To Extend Plugin Parameters

Oct 7, 2010

I am using the datepicker plug in, and am trying to extend it to not allow sundays to be selected. Now the problem I have is I am no javascript savy... so not sure the correct way to format this.

Here is my code for the plug in:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
// Tabs
$('#datepicker1').datepicker({
beforeShowDay: function(date) {
return [(date.getDay() > 1), ""];
} minDate: 0,
maxDate: "+12M +0D",
dateFormat: 'dd-mm-yy'
});});
</script>

The above is not working, It is not showing the calendar, so I know something is up somewhere here? The reason it has datepicker1 is on the page it is dynamic and can have multiple occurences of the calendar but with numbers after each.

JQuery :: Add Attributes / Extend Element?

When you need for a certain element (say a text input box) to remember some data, what is the best way to do this? Can you extend the input box object with jquery? Right now i've been storing it in the rel tag $('#testInput').attr('rel','extrainfo') it just seems like there should be a better way to do this.

JQuery :: Extend Or Merge - Username / Mod

Sep 14, 2011

Currently I'm trying to do the following:
{
config : {
user : "name",
mod : true
}}

That is JSON nr 1, now I got the following
{
config : {
mod : false
}}

What I need as a result is:
{
config : {
user : "name",
mod : false
}}

If I do a $.extend(json1, json2) then I will lose my user name.
If I do a $.merge(json1, json2) I will keep my username, but my mod will not be overwritten.

EXTEND ?

Sep 24, 2005

I switched to using this function to create element:

----------------------------------------------------
function elem(name, attrs, style, text) {
var e = document.createElement(name);
if (attrs) {
for (key in attrs) {
if (key == 'class') {
e.className = attrs[key];
} else if (key == 'id') {
e.id = attrs[key];
} else {
e.setAttribute(key, attrs[key]);
}
}
}
if (style) {
for (key in style) {
e.style[key] = style[key];
}
}
if (text) {
e.appendChild(document.createTextNode(text));
}
return e;
}
---------------------------------------------------------

so instead of the "old" way:
var oMyDiv = document.createElement("DIV");
oMyDiv.setAttribute("id","testid");
oMyDiv.className = "testclass";

I use that function :
var oMyDiv = elem('DIV', {'id':'testid', 'class':'testclass'});

The rendered source shows this:
<div extend=" function (object) {return Object.extend.apply(this, [this,
object]); } "
class="testclass" id="testid">

Question: I don't understand the "EXTEND" part......anyways does it look
legit/right?

How To Extend HTMLObject

Sep 4, 2007

I would like to extend any HTMLObject with additional functions, such as the following:

HTMLCollection.prototype.getElementByID = function(s_name)
{
alert(s_name);

return null;
}
Unfortunately this doesn't work. However, this one does:
Code:
Array.prototype.getElementsByName = function(s_name)
{
alert(s_name);

return null;
}

Is there a way to do what I'm looking for, perhaps using other techniques?

Extend Behavior To Congruent Div

Jul 23, 2005

I've got a div, and it has an onMouseOver handler attached to it which makes a second div visible. The second div shares part of one side with the first, but not all.

The first div also has an onMouseOut handler which, you guessed it, makes the second div invisible.

However, if the user rolls out of the first div and into the second, I'd like to keep the second div visible. Any ideas how to accomplish this?

Extend Page Instead Of Paginating?

Apr 10, 2011

basically the way I have it now, it's like most other sites, in terms of paginating. You click 2, 3, 4, for the next pages.

However, I don't really like that. I like the way how twitter has it, so you can click more, and the page then extends, showing more tweets.

How can I apply this to my site (which for the most part, is like a photo gallery, by the way)?

Extend The Constructor For The Date Object?

Jul 9, 2010

How to extend the constructor for the date object of the javasccript so that whenever a call is made to the constructor, I want to perform a particular action? Basically how to define wrappers for default javascript methods or objects like Date() so that I can perform some action and then invoke the original method? So basically if I have something like var a = new Date(); I want it to (say) alert the value of the date everything Date() is called and then execute the default date constructor.

Flash - Extend KmlPlacemark In The Google Earth API?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm trying to extend KmlPlacemark in the Google Earth API. Google uses factory methods to create the objects so I can't do something like this:

KmlPlacemark.prototype.foo = fuction(){...}

I tried to simply add methods to each of the objects after they were created

function foo(){...}
placemarkObj.foo = foo;

but it throws

Error: Trying to add unsupported property on NPObject!

I ended up just making a wrapper for it, but I'd still want to know if there's any other way of doing it.

Prototyping Within Library - Extend Or Super-class The Native String Object

Apr 21, 2011

I have a few String prototypes such as String.prototype.EscapeReg = function () { return this.replace(/[-[]{}()*+?.,\^$|#s]/g, "\$&"); }; // Escapes characters for use with a regular expressionI also have my own class/ library which is used like this var adg = new AndyG_ns.ADG_Utils(); adg.StartClock('AndyClock','dd mmm yy hh:nn'); // etc.What I would like to do is to only add the prototype to my library (not to the global namespace). The end result I'm looking for is to use code such as:

var adg = new AndyG_ns.ADG_Utils();
var myString = new adg.AString();
var parsed = myString.EscapeReg();

In addition, I want to be able to also use/create my special string sub-class within my library. I suppose I'm saying that I would like to extend or super-class the native String object.

Public Static Method Accessing Private Method

Aug 3, 2006

I'm trying to do something, but I don't know if it's possible.
Basically, I want to have a public static class method that could
access a private object's method. I would like to be able to do :

Class.method(InstanceOfClass);

The method would then access a private function from Class by doing
something like

function method(param) {
param.privateMethodOfClass();
}

I've done a lot research and experimentations but just can't come up
with a solution... I don't even know if what I'm trying to do is
possible.

Why Is The Callwhy Is The Slice Method Only A Method Of An Array Instance?

Jan 31, 2011

Why is the callwhy is the slice method only a method of an Array instance? The reason why I ask is because if you want to use it for the arguments property of function object, or a string, or an object, or a number instance, you are forced to use Array .prototype slice.call(). And by doing that, you can pass in any type of object instance (Array, Number, String, Object) into it. So why not just default it as a method of all object instances built into the language?In other words, instead of doing this:

function Core(){
var obj = {a : 'a', b : 'b'};
var num = 1;[code]....

//right now none of the above would work but it's more convenient than using the call alternative.

}
Core('dom','event','ajax');

Why did the designers of the javascript scripting language make this decision?
