JQuery :: Can Validate And Update Entered Value Before Doing Search?
May 14, 2009
When typing data into the autocomplete-field the list of matches is updated at every key pressed. Is it possible in any way to check and correct the data before doing the match. Or could you alter the way the match is done. The perfect example is when you have lots of users entering decimal values into a filed. Some people uses comma and some decimal-point. So you would like to permit both "2.23" and 2,23" to be matched against 2.23 in the list.[code]
I'm using jQuery validation on a form and I can't get it to only validate optional fields if the user enters something (should recognize the difference between this and the default value of the field, for text input fields). I know this is built in (I think) but I must be doing something wrong.
For example, phone number is optional but I want it to validate if the user enters something. Code for the phone in the JS file is:
When I just put "phone" as the class it validates the field even if it is not edited by the user at all. For the required fields I put "required" as the class to validate them but I just read in another post that this is not necessary with the plugin...? I guess I am not sure whether the field should be define as optional by a class or in the JS file, and if it's the latter, how to do that.
I have a html form and I have three text boxes named Max Accessories: Accessory SKU: Accessory CPC ID:
And I want a javascript functionality like, if the user enters in the max accessories text box value as 1, then the below two text boxes should update like automatically like below: Accessory 1 SKU ACCESSORY 1 CPC ID
Similarly if user enters Max accessories value as 2 in the text box, then the below two text boxes should update like automatically like below: AcceSsory 1 SKU ACCESSORY 1 CPC ID AcceSsory 2 SKU ACCESSORY 2 CPC ID OnChange of the key, for accessory it should call some function in the same page and dynamically update.
I have a form that works out some basic math questions e.g. area etc. I run a function when a form field is updated to do the calculations, however I'd like to run a different calculation depending on which form element was updated. Is there a way to say something like:
if (area1 was updated) { work out this calculation } if(area2 was updated) { work out this calculation } and so on?
I'm trying to make sure that when a user enters information into my textbox, that when the textbox loses focus then it checks to make sure that they entered numbers and not text or other characters. Numbers only....Any suggestions?
I was making mysearchfieldI though jQuer may help update one dropdown box when a value in one box is updated.
So, my search goes like this, Search for Pet [PetDropDown], Search for Breed [BreedDropDown], Search Location [Text feild] and Search Price [Text Feild].
So in this system i want the [DropDown] box to automatically update it self, with no reloading, thats where jQuery comes in (im guessing) with a list of Breed that link with the Pets DropDown. So if the user picks Dog, then the Breed Dropdown will show Breeds that areassociatedwith Dogs, such as Collie, Jack Russell or Staffordshire Bull Terrier. If a Pet isn't selected then nothing will show.
The information come from the data and a phpstatementfor the Breed DropDown would be as such: $sql = "SELECT id, title, value, type, cat FROM site_cats WHERE type = '[PetDropDown]' "; of course it wont be [PetDownDown] but as a $value such as $petType or $pet.
I have a search field on the website, and when I type a word to search, it search good, but after preforming the search, the search term from search text field disappears and become the default 'Search' word.
How can I make search term stay in search field after preforming a search ? For example, when I type into the search field 'JavaScript' I want that term to stay in search field and after the search is done.
I must be missing something, is there not an easy way to validate inline?
For example, I have a required text input that is given focus on page load, I would like for it to throw an error if the user moves to the next field w/o entering any data.
im loading data via json dynamical from the server. Now i try to optimate the speed of my application and so i want to disable the validate of the fields during the data loading from the server. Is there a simple solution to this? like validate = false
I have a form (form1) to register with the fields: user, email, password being validated normally.
Have a second form (Form2) to the user update the data registered in form1, and the fields user, email, password is already populated with data from the database, the email field I use the remote validation, and as the field already has been completed and read always says that this email already exists, how do I create a rule or method so that when the field is already filled it not do so validating and validate if it is filled with a new email. Email2 have a hidden field in order to do a test type.
I'm working under certain constraints wherein,at a certain point outside my direct control, validate is called with no arguments, but after that I want to set a custom validation function on a form field. I figure there's got to be a way to manipulate validate's internal data structure to add the function, but I don't have a clue as to how.
I have a section of a form containing elements that are not visible, currently just in a hidden div. Some of these elements have validation on them so when the form is submitted it fails on this validation. What I am after is a way to stop the validation firing for any hidden elements. I have tried setting them to 'display: none' and 'visibility: hidden' but this does not have any affect.
Now i just want to edit one thing, when you search for something, results are shown under the search field, when you click on each result, goes to a link.
I want when clicking on a result, not going to link, just show that result string on the search field. where should i edit in script?
I have created a similar smart search like yellowpages:[URL]... Here is the problem I have with mine:
Lets say I search 'Attorneys' I start typing 'Att' ... then 'Attorneys' shows up in the smart search so I click on it and press enter. The next time I start typing 'Att' my browsers saved search field pops up over the websites smart search. Here is an image which might help explain the problem a bit more:
I have chosen to use Google Custom Search with my website and was given the following code, my question is, how can i pass a search query from my homepage which has a standard form on there to the search page which holds this code?
I am given a search box within this code but would prefer to use my own on the homepage...
The GetCats function is called. However, when it return, thegetJSONfunction is never entered. I have tried several ways. Am I doing something wrong, or is my JsonResultinvaliFrom Controller Class:
public JsonResult GetCats() { // enters and returns fine
As the user types the "start year", I want to fill the "end year" with the same value, keystroke by keystroke. But simply using a keypress eventhandler doesn't do quite what I want, as
fills in "end_year" with the value before the keypress has been added to "start_year".Again, I just want "end_year" to be the same as "start_year" as it's being typed.
I have a website that I'm designing where I have the need to search multiple sites at specific times. By this I mean that In some cases, we would want to search only the internet using google, or only search the site that I've created (which currently uses the jse_search.js solution), or only our company's website.
I currently have four different search boxes that will search either the internet, the internal site, a separate internal site, or a third-party website, which all working fine. The problem is that the search boxes take up quite a bit of space, and the layout is becoming cumbersome. Is there a way in Javascript I could use a single search box and a drop-down list to select which method to use? The code I'm currently using is below. With the exception of the Google search function, I've modified some of the site names to general site names and paths to preserve the company's anonymity:
Code in the <head> tag: <script language="JavaScript1.3" type="text/javascript" src="jse_form.js"> </script> Code in the <body> tag: <!--Begin Internal Site Search 1!-->
I have an MVC application and I am trying to do some validation but the Validate doesn't seem to fire. I can get it working in a basic html page but for some reason it is not working in my aspx page and I am not sure why. I have all the js files included that I need and the CSS classes defined exactly as they are in the basic example in the jQuery documentation. Here is my code:
