I am trying to write a simple javascript function that locates a parameter in a url, if it is present, and replace it with a different value. Here's my code:
function setParam(url,param,value) {
var a = '&'+param+'=d+';
var new_url = url.replace(new RegExp(a), '');
new_url = new_url + '&'+param+'='+value;
return new_url;
}
The problem is, it doesn't work. It adds the new param, value pair to the old url, but the old param isn't replaced. What do I need to do here to make this work?
I'm new to JavaScript, and have been playing around with a few simple functions to get going. However, I've hit a problem that I just can't fix, I'm trying to write a simple function to animate the collapse of a div using setTimeout (I know, jQuery does it a lot better), and it's gotten the best of me. The only error it's giving me now is
Code: missing ; before statement on line 25 but I can't see why. I assume it's something to do with my abuse of the setTimeout syntax (why does it insist that everthing is enclosed in quotes.I'm sure there are much better scripts than mine, and searching the forum I've come across Vic Phillips' fine specimen which mostly went over my head. But if I just wanted it to work I'd use jQuery - I'm more interested in why it's not working.
code is below. In addition to this I've also got an external script to compensate for browsers without getElementsByClass, but it should work in modern browsers up to the point where it doesn't!

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

Does anyone know a way to do vertical sync with javascript animations (getting timers to run on the vertical sync)?
I rather doubt there is a way to do it, but I find it annoying that when I am dragging an object with my mouse that the object "tears" sometimes.
Why doesn't this work? The input field doesn't show up at all. I know I'm just missing something really simple here.
<script type="text/javascript">
day = day.getDay()+1;
month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
document.write('<INPUT name=Date value='+ newdate + '>');
</script>
I have a client that has ads on her website that really slow down the site. These ads are called by an off site javascript file and I want to use a jQuery(document).ready or similar method to call these files after all of the site content has loaded. But these files contain document.write functions to add more javascript files. Since I want to load the files after everything else has loaded, this in turn makes the page blank and then loads the ad. Is there a way to position where document.write will write to?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to JavaScript and am having a problem. I thought what I am doing should work but it isn't.
Basically I have a form that people can put a quantity into. e.g. A, B, C.
I have a JavaScript function called comput that assigns values e.g. A = 5, B = 7, C = 9. Here is the start of the script:
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
function compute(form){
var A = form.A.value * 5;
var B = form.B.value * 7;
var C = form.C.value * 9;
I then declare a variable to add them up:
var ans = A+B+C;
return;
}
</script>
This part of the script works fine. Now I want to write the ans variable. So I use:
<script>
<!--
document.write ("Your total is "+ans+"")
// --></script>
But it isn't working. Any ideas?
i searched on the net for the scrolling of text vertically...The text should be scrolled from top to bottom on the right side side of the page
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an solution to find out the real vertical viewport -
without the height of horizontal scrollbars.
I have two frames side by side. The left one declared 'scrolling="no"'
and the right one 'scrolling="auto"'. For the left frame it is important
to know if the right frame has a horizontal scrollbar and how sick it
is. So I have tried to compare the viewport of both frames.
Using 'window.innerHeight', 'document.documentElement.clientHeight',
'document.body.clientHeight' or 'document.body.offsetWidth' I get the
height including the scrollbars.
The same problem with two frames (rows="50%,50%) i've solved with block
elements declared with a width of 100%. Comparing the offsetWidth of
both, I can see if there is a scrollbar in one frame. But with frames
side by side that doesn't work.
I would like to use the menu that is linked below. I implemented it on my website but I discovered that it can only go 2 levels deep. I would like it to go one more level and I think that would be done in the javascript but I can't tell for sure. Could someone steer me in the right direction? [URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a newbie to Sitepoint, and relatively new to CSS and JS. I am using a script from Dynamic Drive and have posted this on their forum as well, with no luck. The menu looks great in every browser but IE. When you hover over the parent page and the child pages show up, they go away when you start to scroll down. But if you scroll really slow, they stay up. I am trying to avoid re-doing the whole thing. Both the CSS and the HTML are below. The site is computerdepot-online.net

I know nothing of js yet, I'm still studying CSS & PHP. So I'm just looking for a ready made script for vertical scrolling. I found one that does exactly that, but all the css styling is done in the javascipt, so I was completely lost. I want to be able to just enter the html (into the js array if neccessary, I can do that much lol) and have it scroll upwards, simple as that. The nearest thing I could find to what I want is this Creating a vertical content scroller using DHTML I can style my div & images myself, then all I need to do is enter the html and away it goes, but it functions just like the marquee tag in that it waits for the entire content to clear before it starts scrolling again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been working on a vertical reveal menu. Right now it
works ok with CSS. But what i'd like it to do is when you mouse over,
reveal the menu and have that menu stay open until the user mouses
over another menu item. Right now it's a bit jumpier than i'd like it
and would like to basically have it stay open on a mouse out event,
again until it hits another menu item. Code:
is there any way to disable or lock vertical scroll bars on a browser

sometimes they appear on IE but not on mozilla.
I'm using Jquery to power my horizontal scrolling portfolio site.[URL] I have a problem that on a smaller browser window elements becomeverticalscroll-ableand id rather it force you tore-sizerather then break the design. Using the basic CSS Overflow:Hiddenisn'tan option because it then sticks the horizontal scrollbar wherever the end of your page loads at, making anuglybar across the middle of largerresolutionscreens. I used a mootools approach thatremovesonly one of the scrollbars, but mootoolsdoesn'tplay nice with jquery in this fix.
Has anyone tried to attempt this? or am I just banging my head against a problem andover complicatingthis? I could always just make the page elements smaller, but liking my big photo presentation.
Oh and I dont mind about compatibility with IE6, im in the graphic design business, all the people im showing this too have a more modern browser or use the 64-bit IE.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is my HTML code:
Code:
<div id="vnav">
<ul>
<li>
<a href="index.php">Home</a>
[code]....
It's basically a vertical list of links, with more specific links hidden inside categories. When you click a category, the specific links should slide down. This is the JS/jQuery part:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function slidey() {
$("#vnav ul li ul").slideDown("slow");
[code]....
so the problem here is that when you click a category, it expands ALL sub-categories and it's supposed to just expand the sub-categories related to the section clicked.
I'm currently trying to build a vertical mega menu as all the ones on the net seem to be set up for horizontal menus. I'm struggling a bit on a certian point as I'm not a very strong Javascript user.It places the mega menu under the button but i want it to appear to the side of the button and be flush with the top of it. I have made it appear to the side but I cant seem to make it run flush with the top of the button, it appears at the bottom of the button.The buttons are 142px wide and 28 in height.

I trying to find a vertical scroller that will automatically have the text scroll upwards but have an arrow above and arrow below to be able to control the direction of the scrolling text, or a script with no arrows but still allow me to take control by mousing over the text to scroll up or down.
