Getting Variables "type" From The Data ?

Jul 15, 2011

I'm trying to use a plugin for paging from jquery, the thing is that the demo is not very clear, at least for me that I'm not very familiar with jquery and httphandlers. Here is the javascript code.

$(function () {
var a = 10;
var b = 10;[code].....

Then in my handler I'm trying to do this, this is beacause I'm following a tutorial to use a Jquery Plugin for paging, the web page for this plugin is http://jpaging.fahon.org/usage.In the handler it puts this code in the http context function

the "context" is the HttpContext variable.

context.Request.Form["type"]

I thought it was getting the variable "type" from the data in the ajax in the javascript but it does not get me anything, it always gets null.What am I doing wrong?

Variables In Calculator Type?

Mar 29, 2011

I have a text field with a numberpad below it, I got the numbers to show up in the text field, but am unsure as to how when I hit the enter button - it would store them in a variable?...I am also wondering as to how it would store current value and then allow me to input another value(maybe on the next page) and either subtract or add to it(the first value that is stored).I need the calculator to be like a numberpad/money calculator, so when the user will enter a specific amount(stored in variable), (there will be two decimal places for currency(not sure how to get this working)i want the "point" to be there when they enter in numbers).then they add in another amount, how would i subtract/add this to the first stored value?

Vector Data Type (2nd Attempt)

Sep 13, 2006

A while ago I wrote a "Vector data type" script
using DOM interface to select.options.
That was a (beautiful) mind game :-) rather than
a practical thing to use.

Here is another attempt open for criticism, this
time dead serious. I really need an effective
Vector emulator for a project (as much effective
as something not implemeted in language but
emulated by means of the language itself is: a
productivity impact is imminent, the question
is to minimize it).

<html>
<head>
<title>Vector constructor</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<script>
function Vector(arr) {
this.$_$ = arr || new Array();
this.length = this.$_$.length;
this.add = Vector.$add;
this.remove = Vector.$remove;
this.toString = Vector.$toString;
}

Vector.$add = function(m,i) {
if (('number'!=typeof(i))||(i<0)||(i>=this.$_$.length)) {
this.$_$.push(m);
}
else {
var tmp = [m];
tmp.push(this.$_$[i]);
this.$_$.splice(i,1,tmp);
}
this.length = this.$_$.length;
}

Vector.$remove = function(i) {
var ret = this.$_$.splice(i,1)[0];
this.length = this.$_$.length;
return ret;
}

Vector.$toString = function() {
return this.$_$.toString();
}

// Create new vector and use it as a wrapper
// over Array argument:
var v = new Vector([1,2,3]);

// add(newElement, atPosition) method
// if no atPosition provided, newElement will
// be added to the top
v.add(4); // add 4 to the top

// Add 3.5 atPosition 3
// The element currently located at v[3] and all elements atop
// of it will be moved one position up
v.add(3.5, 3);

// remove(atPosition) method
// Elements currently located atop of it will be moved
// one position down
v.remove(1);

// toString method is overloaded so in string
// context it gives comma-separated vector values
alert(v); //1, 3, 3.5, 4
</script>
</head>

Data-Type Reference Material?

May 20, 2011

oes anybody know of a good reference document/source for data types that you can pass to a function, please? What I want to establish are the variety of elements that can pass data to a function in the following way:If you set a value to a table cell (<td>) then you retrieve it in the function thus:

function(row) by calling function(this).

I know that divs and spans can do this too, but how about images in a loop with unique names etc?

JQuery :: Using .insertBefore() - Simple Data Entry Page - Enter The Name And Type Of An Animal ?

Jun 12, 2011

Im trying to get the hang of it. I am trying a simple data entry page, where you can enter the name and type of an animal (eg Freddy the ferret) and it will be added to an HTML table.

The bottom of my table looks like this...

...and I have the following in the <head> tag of the page...

The way I thought this should work is that the first bit of the line would create a new DOM element, consisting of a <tr> with three <td>s in it, the first and second of which would contain the values the user entered. This new DOM element would then be inserted into the table right before the last row.

The problem is that the values from the two <input> tags are ignored, and a row with three empty cells is inserted...

I tried adding the following to the script...

And this showed fine, implying that I am getting the values correctly.

I even tried hard-coding the whole line, but that still added empty cells. Oddly enough (to me anyway), the space in the third cell was recognised, but the hard-coded text in the first two cells wasn't.

Validate Data In Form And Combine Variables

Feb 15, 2005

I have a form that I am using to page people. I have several fields created, so that I can insure that users enter all the different fields instead of just having a message box. I am using skytel to page the people. I am not an expert in java scripting. I have created a script, but can't get everything to work properly. I have a function created that will take all the values from the fields and put them into one. I also have a javascript that does data validation. The only problem is that they only work independently- I can't seem to get both of them to work. If anyone is interested in assisting, I will include the entire HTML file(about 80 lines), but thought I would ask for assistance first.

JQuery :: Initializing Data Method Variables On Server Side?

Feb 8, 2010

You can use JQuery's data method (e.g. $('#MyID').data('MyVar', 'MyValue');) to easily store/retrieve information.

However, I was wondering if it is possible for my PHP generated page to add HTML tags that initialize the JQuery's data method variables. Regularly, I want server side variables to be accessible client side. It would be very helpful if I could initialize data method variables during PHP page generation.

If this is not possible, are there any suggestions on how to efficiently communicate server side variables to client side?

PHP Variables To Javascript Variables

May 6, 2006

I have a program written in Javascript and fully functioning which takes a user-selected directory name and then displays all the photos in that directory in a certain format.

I am now wanting to expand the program to allow users to optionally enter their own strings and the program will use all the photos from www.flickr.com which use that string as a tag.

I have a PHP interface to flickr (called PHPflickr) which collects all the relevant photo urls. I now need to get these images back into my Javascript so I can process them using the existing functions (rather than rewrite all my functions in PHP code and have two sets of functions in the program). I found on another thread a means to do this for a date variable:

var jsArray = new Array(
<?php
$length = count($monthDataArray);
for ($i = 0; $i < $length; $i++)
{
echo '"' . addslashes($monthDataArray[$i]) . '"' . (($i < $length - 1) ? ',' : '') . "
";
}
?>

but being completely new to PHP I'm not sure what "addslashes" might be or what formatting will be necessary if I am starting with an array of urls. Code:

JQuery :: Using .ajax() To Access Cross-domain Data Using JSONP - Able To Cache The Data

Jun 27, 2011

I am using .ajax() to access cross-domain data using JSONP. Because I need to be able to cache the data I want to use a static name for thejsonpCallback function, so I have set the jsonpCallback option in the .ajax() request. However that appears to requires a global function whereas the auto generated function didn't (well maybe it did but that was all hidden from me).

I definitely need to be able to cache the results. Ideally I wouldn't have a global function handling the data. Is there another way to do this? If not what is the best practice way to go about using a global function these days and how do I provide it with the context of the object/module it was called from - which is where the data is needed?

JQuery :: Form Data Not Displaying In Textarea On Subsequent Return Of Data From A Call?

Oct 5, 2011

Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.

The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:

$("textarea#draftrec").html(data).show();
//------------------------------------------------------
$("form#form1").submit(function(e){

JQuery :: Using .data() On Element With HTML5 Data Attributes?

I am trying to try jQuery 1.4.3 updated .data() method with HTML5 data attributes. The way I understood these changes is that an element with these attributes would automatically have their data populated by .data(). For example, if I have an element:

<ahref="#" data-cheese="cheddar">DataElement</a>

I can access this with .data('cheddar'). This part works fine. The issue I am having is that calling JUST data like $(this).data() just produces an empty object. Is this how it should be expected to function?
