I have a form that is done in php I'm converting it to .NET but the java script has an error. I posted all the code but the error is in the "saveOtherSurvivorValues" function i think. What happens is when you click the "add survivor" link to add a the first survivor and then fill out the information for the first survivor then click add survivor a second time for a second survivor it moves the data from the 1st survivor into different fields to produce in accurate data.

I am developing a messaging service between members of my site. I am developing this with asp.net mvc. When a user goes to the SendMessage view to send a message to another member, there is a dropdown list which presents the sender with all the members of the site, which he or she will pick as the recipient. However, i don't want it to be a dropdown, i want it to be a text box, where a user types in the first couple of letters of a name, and the dropdown appears then with only the members which have the same couple of letters. This is basically like every email system out there (facebook and gmail have it just like that). And after they chose one, they can select another one in the same textbox, just separated by a comma or something like that. Basically, how do i achieve that in javascript? I'm not even sure what that functionality is called, that's why i had to explain it properly.

I have an array of divs, and can do a style change on them:
var Ray = new Array("first", "second", "nth");
function bluRay() {
$('#' + Ray.join(',#')).animate({color: '#00f'}, 600);}
( The divs don't share a class, and it'd be code-heavy to add classes for all the necessary variations on this function. )
How to make the operation on the divs sequential, at say, 500ms intervals?

I'm having trouble passing data in an array to a javascript function. I dynamically create a list with edit links on each row and pass the array to the function on each link. Of course, the function only gets the data from the last row, regardless of which link is pressed. Here's the code:

I'm trying to create an extensible class with private members.
Suppose I have the following:
Code:
Obviously, only "y" should be available to instantiations:
Code:
But how can I now extend this class and still access the private properties inside the extension?
Code:
How do I access x there? The someOtherFunction extension is part of the prototype, so it should be in the same scope as someFunction, no?

I am trying to understand somecode. I don't think I am understanding everything correctly. Can someone confirm or add to my understanding?
Here is the code, below is my explanation:
- CODE 1 - is saying if the the class subnav_dd is called on an anchor tag on a li, then make the function in the if statement "live". (Live in a sense binds the function to the condition, but unlike bind it allows the condition to be used more then once. ) So if the class subnav_dd is the parent, and has a class of .dis then prevent anything below it from firing. CSS - If code 1 is true, then I will only get the first li to fire, the remaining ones will not.
- CODE 2 - This one is a little tricky. Function ToggleOptions takes 3 variables (target, array, state). The condition is if the div subnav + target have siblings, then check to see how many siblings are there. Put the amount of siblings into an array, then check the state of each sibling. I don't completely the rest of it.
I think if the div subnav is called and something is found in the array then the class dis is either added or removed. Then what? I don't understand why I still need the else that adds a class to #subnav_ +.target

I've spent several days trying to work this out. Maybe I'm just
searching for the wrong keywords/phrases.
I have some code that looks like:
[-- snippet starts --]
Console = new Object();
Console.init = function() {
this.STDIN = document.getElementById('console0_stdin');
this.STDOUT = document.getElementById('console0_stdout');
// set styles on the element references, eg:
this.STDIN.style.width = ï`%'
this.STDOUT.style.width = ï`%'
}
Console.focus = function() {
this.STDIN.focus();
}
Console.writeln = function(buffer) {
this.STDOUT.value += "
" + buffer;
}
[-- snippet ends --]
I'm not sure why, but the Console.focus() and Console.writeln() methods
just don't seem to be able to use the DOM references stored in
Console.STDIN and Console.STDOUT. Everything's fine in the
constructor, but other methods can't seem to use them.

this might be a simple question, but I'm not really that familiar with JS besides some onmouseover FX:
i got a list of strings separated by a comma. the text might contain accents as well, ex:
HTML Code:
wendy's, pizza mario, charles manson
I need to turn this list into an array.
how do I do that?

I've recently been following the object-oriented techiques discussed
here and have been testing them for use in a web application. There is
problem that I'd like to discuss with you experts.
I would like to produce Javascript classes that can be "subclassed"
with certain behaviors defined at subclass time. There are plenty of
ways to do this through prototyping and other techniques, but these
behaviors need to be static and protected. By protected this means
that they can be overridden (or reassigned) in subclasses, and
privileged subclass methods can access them, but callers external to
the class cannot.
I've been attempting to define a factory function that transfers its
parameters to an anonymous object while defining the constructor in a
-with- block. (This is what I'm loosely referring to as "subclassing"
- it's really object composition.) This works, but not for
externally-defined functions. They can't see the protected static
members....

I am coding a random name generator in javascript and at the moment I have the first names and last names in two seperate arrays. I'm adding more names into the javascript itself and it gets messy after a while. When the list is populated to hundreds of names it's gonna be tough keeping track of things.
I was wondering how to have the names listed line-by-line in two text files (first name, surname) and to call the files when the user clicks the generate name button.

I found out how to get the index of the primary unordered list item that is being hovered but I am not getting the syntax correct to reference the individual items of this listto get the HTML, the position, height and lengthof this item.
$(" #nav li").hover(function(){
// Locate the index of the singular list item that is being hovered
var index = $(this).parent().children('li').index(this);
// This is incorrect
var $itemObject = $(this).parent().children('li')[index];
