Detect Commiting REFRESH On Web Browsers?

Aug 19, 2010

On the cart payment page of my system, when a user proceed to pay his cart/order using online payment, the page takes time to process the payment. I made a pop-up for it to show that it is processing saying that "Do not refresh, your payment may take upto 2 minutes to process." But I am thinking for this solution of disabling the refresh... Or this alternate way: detecting the refresh committed by the user on my back end... If I detected it, Ill just make a function that will terminate the process and will inform the user for unsuccessful payment

JQuery :: Proper Way To Detect Webkit-based Browsers?

Sep 4, 2009

Now that we're switching to feature detection rather than browser detection, how does/should one detect for a webkit browser?Is there a known feature that we can check for that would Identify Safari and Chrome?We're running into some (rather minor) layout issues with some jquery plug-in rendered content in Chrome and Safari and it'd be really easy to just do a 'if a webkit browser, tweak this' type of logic.

Browser Detect To Load Specific Code For Specific Browsers?

Oct 6, 2009

Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me.

I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them.

Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers?

Detect URL & Detect Something On Page & Show Content Accordingly?

Feb 14, 2009

Can Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.

Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.

The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.

So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?

Refresh Parent From IFrame Makes Refresh Loop In FF Only?

Jan 2, 2009

I have this code in a page that appears in my iframe if requested from parent:

<script type="text/javascript">
parent.rrr();
</script>
The parent code is:
function rrr() {
javascript:location.reload(true);
}

So, the person clicks a link from the parent, it does a php process in a hidden iframe, which then tells the parent page to refresh. The only problem is that it puts Firefox in a constant loop of refreshing. IE and Chrome work fine. They refresh once and stop.

Though the src code opens the iframe like so: <iframe src="" style="display:none; height:1px;" name="hdplus" id="hdplus"></iframe> Firefox seems to refresh the page with the memory of the child page being in the iframe, constantly looping the child request to refresh the parent.

Why won't Firefox just accept that no page should load in the iframe, as stated in the code? I need to stop this loop, which means I need to get firefox to reset the iframe as it reloads the page.

DOM And Different Browsers

Mar 1, 2007

I used the DOM for mozilla to write some javascript. And naturally it doesn't work with IE and I haven't tried it on Opera type browsers. Is there any website that spells out the DOM's for IE and Opera individually like the mozilla one? Ie: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/DOM:document.createElement

I would like to get the selection of the dom (meaning a highlighted area), then get the range. From the range I cloneContents in order to get a document fragment. Is there equivalent functions for IE and Opera etc? Code:

I want to have pop-up dimensions suited to what's in the page and if the photo is vertical or horizontal.

Now, the code here under works well with FF2.0 and NS 8.0, but IE6 and Opera 9 just make the window.close() in func_aperta() and closes the pop-up.

Coding For Both Js And Non-js Browsers?

I'm currently modifying a php controlled website and wish to distinguish between javascript and non-javascript browsers in order to decide which pages to display. I have a single php controller script which "includes" a number of html pages. I want to ensure that I cater for both javascript and non-javascript browsers (so functionality is the same, only the javascript pages have a far better look and feel to them).

Therefore I would like to code something along the lines of :

Code:
if (javascript_browser=='true')
{
include './javascript_page1.html.php';
exit();

CreateRange() In Browsers != IE

Mar 19, 2003

I have a nice Javascript code which allows users to HTML format code in a textarea, similar to the code of Post New Thread page. It works great in Internet Explorer but it does nothing in other browsers.

It seems the problem resides in this two lines:

Code:
a=document.selection.createRange();
seleccio = a.text;
How can I arrange this lines in order to make them cross-browser? I really need this code to work, at least, in current versions of Netscape, Mozilla and Opera.

How Much Effort To Put Into Supporting Pre-DOM Browsers?

Jul 23, 2005

I went through the past six months or so of entries
in c.l.javascript, and found a couple where people
had expressed opinions about the value of supporting
much older versions of Netscape and IE. The entries
included incidental mention of server logs showing
how many pages had been retrieved by such browsers.

I'd like to get some sort of communal variety of
opinions on how much effort it's worth to put in the
support, or in some cases, the "graceful degradation"
allowing partial capabilities to remain in a page
under the old browser.

My situation is that I have no access to server side
capabilities or CGI, have yet to buckle down and learn
Java, but have a fairly complex application I'd like
accessible via the web.

Are there links answering:

1. How many commercial sites still insist on full
compatibility? Allow significant degradation? Give
up on NN < 6? Ignore browsers with small market
shares?

2. How do developers feel about coding for browsers
older than, say, two years?

3. Are there statistics from a variety of sites
showing use by different browsers?

Reading Cookies Across Browsers

Jul 20, 2005

I have been using document.cookie to write and read cookies.
Unfortunately, when I open my page in Internet Explorer, I don't see
what I wrote to my cookie while in Netscape Navigator. Similarly, my
page that I opened in Netscape doesn't see what I wrote to the cookie
while in IE.

Surely there must be away for IE and Netscape to read the same
cookie information ??. Otherwise, what happens if a user just happens
to be browsing my page in both browsers? They'll expect things to be
there, and they won't be there because one browser doesn't see what
was written in the other.

Any ideas on how to get Netscape to read cookies written by IE, and
visa versa?
